Here is the problem…

This past Saturday my 360 got the red rings of death and I went out and got a new 360. When I got home, I swapped the hard drives since my original hard drive had all my game saves, DLC etc.

Everything has been working since but I noticed when I played Rock Band, the DLC songs were not there. So then I decided to log on to Xbox Live and sure enough, the songs appeared. (before my Xbox died, the DLC songs would still be in the game even if I was not signed in with XBOX Live.)

So last night, I decided to download the Police Pack. when I did, I noticed that when I logged off of Xbox Live these new DLC songs were still playable but the other DLC songs were still only playable when I am logged on to Xbox Live. ( I even tried to delete the original DLC songs and downloaded them again and it still didn’t work.)

Are the DLC songs made this way so you can’t share them between 360’s? I am just frustrated that I can’t play my DLC songs in Rock Band unless I am logged on to Xbox Live.

You can thank Microshaft for that. It's an antipiracy "feature". In the past, you could call them and get them to refund your points so you could rebuy your DLC. Don't know if they still do that.

Doesn't the DLC you've already paid for have the check mark indicating you've paid for it as long as you're logged into LIVE with the same gamertag?

If so, then I would think redownloading would fix it. If not, I'd agree, call MS.

I read that you tried it, that's why I said that i would THINK it would fix it. Seems like you need to contact MS LIVE/XBOX whateverthehellitis support.

It's pretty simple. When you purchase any DLC it is tied to your gamertag AND the 360 you first download it on (that is the console not the HDD). This is why initially you could play the tracks without having to log in. It is also the reason why other accounts on that Xbox can use the DLC.

As you have a new 360, your 'old' DLC is of course not linked to this console, just to your gamertag - hence why you have to be logged in to use it. Any new downloaded content will be linked to your new console and your tag.

This is a measure that MS had to implement to prevent people from downloading content onto all their friends consoles. The only problem with this is that there is no option to transfer your existing content and link it to a new console in case of a faulty console, which is a major oversight if you ask me. Or maybe instead of linking it to the console, they could have linked it to the HDD (if that is technically possible).

If your original console died because of the RROD it might be worth contacting MS and see if they want to refund you points spent. Explain to them that you cannot always be connected to Live. They used to refund people, but I don't know if they still do - you may have to speak to a supervisor to get this done.
