Just wondering how many people here have been given information about upcoming songs or anything like that and they weren't allowed to tell anyone? Like signing a nondisclosure agreement or something?

I only ask because I recently found out some exciting information about upcoming DLC that I'm not allowed to share with anyone. Am I doing this to torture people? No, although I'm sure this will bug some people. I'm just excited and the only way I can talk about it is to talk about the fact that I can't tell anyone.

Wait, that wasn't a secret?

Okay - don't tell anyone I told you this, but I heard that Harmonix
is working right now on some top secret project where you or I can
submit our own songs and have them playable in the game. Isn't
that amazing......Again, please don't tell anyone I mentioned this.

/sarcasm

Seriously though, I'm sure whatever it is that you know will be exciting
for some and not exciting for others - that's how dlc is every week for the
most part.

I have and am currently.

Both Rock Band related(still unanounced upcoming RBN stuff that's not on the site yet), and non RB related (I work in the comic industry).

I got this secret zine once that mentioned Rush's Perment Waves was coming out I fowarded it to another rock band forum member. He decided to blow the story and posted a thread about it. HMX got so pissed that they banned him and canceled the DLC.

Im probably going to get banned now too. So make sure you screen shot this post. *fixes tinfoil hat*

Wiiman95

Yep. HMX told me that the following albums/games are coming.

Radiohead - Ok Computer
Images and Words - Dream Theater
...And Justice for All - Metallica
Black Album - Metallica
The Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Led Zepplin: Rock band
London Calling - The Clash
Badmotorfinger - Soundgarden
Dirt - Alice in Chains

Yep that's all coming VERY soon.

*gets shot by HMX sniper*

I have to laugh - many of the DLC leaks in the past weren't due to "insider information" as much as they were due to some poor planning and security, though mostly by a certain Company N and not HMX. I'm not going to mention any specifics, but up until a few months ago it was possible to decode the DLC index files from N's servers and observe the DLC list for the next several weeks. A buddy of mine got a lot of online praise and suspicion for his ability to predict the DLC Of The Week days, weeks, or even months in advance. Thankfully, N has revised its policies and now withholds the files until their release date, and updates the index on a weekly or bi-weekly basis rather than posting the entire quarter's list of songs.

So, I suppose I've been privy to some "insider info" pertaining to Rock Band, but it's not too impressive. Still, it's better to cherish the information and keep it to yourself to avoid getting in hot water or spoiling the surprise.

I've never been sworn to secrecy or anything like that, but I think I was one of, if not the only one outside of HMX that knew REO Speedwagon was coming months before it did.

Out of curiosity I shot Kevin Cronin, the lead singer, an e-mail asking if they had ever been in touch with HMX and if so, would we be seeing any songs from them. He actually responded saying they were coming, but he didn't mention specific songs. Just the fact that I knew a band I loved was coming had me bursting to say something here, but I was afraid if I did it would mess up the deal.

Of course not.

Sometimes you know people behind the scenes and they trust you enough to let you in on what they are working on at the time.

You know, its funny. The other day I was thinking that its weird we DON'T get more leaks from publically accesable sources. The recent find that HMX licensed a bunch of electronica/dance songs was found through legal, public means.

I'm a big transformer fan, and there's always a few fanboys who check Hasbro's patent claims from time to time to find out what names they are licensing for new toys/characters. I'm really surprised there's nobody checking, if its possible (not sure), what songs EA/HMX/MTV is liscensing.

That's always surprised me too. I just found out my information because I emailed an artist about being in the RBN and his reply was "Oh, sorry. That song is already in the pipelines at Harmonix. Don't tell anyone yet though."

Knowing something ahead of time is not as glamorous as you'd think.

It doesn't make the material come out any faster. And since you can't tell anyone, you can't share the joy/excitement that comes from the news.

i knew about 3 weeks worth of dlc back in august. john drake told me when the community team was in chicago, and i went and met them at a bar. It was the week of the foo fighters 1st pack after colour and shape. I also kinda knew about Rust in Peace, since im like alvarado's best internet friend and gave me major status updates on anything about it, and that night john drake actually did say we were getting it but not for a while (and that was in august, so now 6 months later in feb, he was right)

Exactly.

Because if you tell anyone, then your source won't tell you anything in the future about what's up and coming.

And I can guarantee people *won't* be excited for whoever you've got "under wraps."

We don't all share the same musical tastes, so one man's caviar is another man's cat food.

Say what you want but why announce something in August if you had no intentions of releasing in a somewhat early fashion. Don't tell us things if you don't want people complaining about it later when it hasn't been released. There was no reason to even talk about it. Fans have a right to be upset because it seems they are stringing them along. Of course it is just a game.....

As I said, this wasn't a thread to discuss me knowing something I can't share. This thread is for discussing how common it is for people to know things and not be able to share. I see now that it's not very common and MOST people will just assume you're lying to draw attention to yourself so it doesn't matter anyway.

I know about a lot of stuff.

And I know that it's usually a bad idea to talk about stuff that you shouldn't know, or talk about friends that told you stuff that they shouldn't have told you, or talk about promises / legally binding documents that people decided to break. And I know that it's usually an especially bad idea to post about that stuff on the same forums that the developers frequent.

Just sayin'.
