View Full Version : Wii - Rock Band 2 DLC / SD Issues

A couple of days ago, I purchased, 6 or 7 songs. I originally just had an old 128MB SD card in the wii, it was one that I just had laying around the house. The card filled up.

The first night I was able to play all the songs that I had downloaded just fine, a couple days later I decided to go buy a new 2GB card so I could keep all the songs on the SD card.

What I planned was to take out the old card, insert the new one, go to the Music Store via RB2 and just redownload all the purchased songs on to the new SD card.

1st issue : it would only allow me to download 2 out of the 6. The others said "Purchased", when I tried downloading the others, it would boot me out of the music store with an error code of "204704" - I looked up the code at support.nintendo.com and it was an issue with the wii shop channel.

Solution attempt 1 : I called the nintendo tech support number that was on support.nintendo.com. I explained to the guy what was happening, he took my serial number of the wii, and verified that I did in fact purchase the songs. He also had me check my router. I explained to him that I have used the wii shop channel several times, and play Mario Kart weekly with a group of friends online, and that it also allowed me to download 2 out of the 6 prior to me calling. So we ruled out the router being the issue. He put in a ticket for the next level of tech support to call me back.

2nd issue : After getting off the phone with tech support, I had the idea of copying the data from the old card to the new one, there is a folder that apparently the wii made called "private" I copied that file to the new SD card, inserted it in the wii, and started rock band.

I now had 5 out my 6 songs, I thought I made progress! so I went to redownload the other song I was missing. Navigated to "Weezer" - Beverly Hills - marked as purchased, clicked on redownload - BAM! same error code. I called nintendo tech support back to let them know what had transpired, I explained I could get all the songs but 1 now. The lady told me that I have done everything that she can advise. I made the suggestion that she "remove" beverly hills from my pruchased songs, and credit back 200 wii points (making it as if I never purchased it) then I would try to repurchase / redownload it like that. She informed me that they cannot do that, that I would have to call EA and they could do that. She gave me the number for EA RB2 support, I called it and the guy says I need to call nintendo...

Bottom line is, I can get all the songs but 1 that I purchased.. hopefully I explained everything in detail enough for someone to shed some light on this, please ask any questions and I will answer to the best of my ability, I simply just want the song.

Thanks!

It seems that any of the songs that came out this month (or late last month like weezer i think) can not be downloaded as of now... Nintendo's servers just got overloaded i think with all of the dlc and all (this has to be nintendo's biggest wifi game) and they will hopefully fix it soon

As iNick64 stated - check back & attempt another re-DL later. I had something similar happen once when my save data got somehow corrupted. I was eventually able to re-DL any & all "purchased" tracks.

The whole calling for help deal (Ninty says call EA, then EA tells you to call Nintendo) is a PITA.

- Update

so last night I took the card out, started the game, then went to the music store.

all the songs I bought were listed as "purchased"

I exited, shut down the game, reset the wii, re inserted the card and started RB2.

Went back to music store, the songs i bought all said downloaded but "Beverly Hills"

I clicked on redownload.

Voila, it worked.

don't know if it was a fluke, or what. But everything seems to be in working order now.

But, now, I have another question, on the wii's memory there are 3 files that say "Rock Band 2 DLC" can I delete those since everything is now on the SD card? I don't like using disk space on the wii if I don't need to.

^ You could delete them, all but one at least, but it wouldn't matter; Next time you start up RB it will create these files again.

True - these seem to be your DLC "catalog" in the Wii internal memory. Seems to be how the game governs your DLC, but the actual DLC file data in on the card. If you do delete these, one or 2 things will happen.

1- Everything will work as expected, and these small memory blocks will regenerate in internal memory once you boot up RB2 & the game reads the SD card.

2- All DL-ed tracks will again appear as "purchased" in the Store & will require re-DL-ing.

Since these small "Pay & Play" saves only take up 1 block each, they're not huge memory eaters to have there (and they HAVE to be there). I have 177 tracks on a non-SDHC 4GB right now - this casues my Wii to have 4 of these small blocks in internal memory (seems to add one for every 25 DL-ed tracks or so)

As an add-on to this . . . I have a 2GB SDHD card that I guess is filled because I downloaded The Who's Smash DLC and it said there was not enough space of my SD Card. Can I use a larger SDHD such as 4MB or 8MB? If so, do I need to re-DL all almost 100 DLC songs, or can I save it and transfer it to a new card through my laptop . . . or better yet, the Wii system? If I can transfer, any ideas how to do so as I am a middle-aged computer challenged RockBander! Thanks everyone!

Is there another thread that has more info on this? I thought I saw it mentioned somewhere. If so, can someone provide a link?

Rob, There is another thread about the 4gb work around.
The thing is that while the Wii and its latest system can take bigger SD cards RB2 was made at a time before the bigger cards. You see the bigger SD cards are SDHC. 2 Gb cards are non HC. there is a card still around that is 4gb ( or really close) that is non HC and that will work if you follow the procedure in that other thread.
Anything SDHC won't work with RB2. They work in the Wii for channels and things.
I hope that makes sense.
