View Full Version : One significant complaint...

I just got the game for Christmas and I love it... I think for the most part the game is great. But I have one really major complaint.
Why couldn't they have made solo tours work the same as the band world tour? Harmonix and Neversoft now have BOTH dissed people like me who don't have local people who come over and play with them. In GH you couldn't unlock songs unless you played through a co-op career which you couldn't do online. That was somewhat excuseable because you could use the unlock all cheat and it didn't really hurt anything and the only thing i'm losing out on is co-op achievments. In Rock Band though, the whole game is SO much cooler in the band world tour.... but I can't participate because I don't know anybody locally to play with.
I tried singing and playing... but it is seriously not fun to me. I'm a terrible singer for one... and I don't know the words to most songs so I end up just making unintelligable noise into the mic while i'm playing guitar, and it completely destroys the enjoyment. So .. all I get is the solo tour which now seems incredibly lame after the brief look at the band world tour.
Why do they discriminate against people who play single player? There's no reason that I can see not to make the two world tours work the same way. I love this game but this is a really major complaint. The LEAST they could do is allow me to play my band online...
Is there ANY chance at all that online world tour will be patched in later?

I would like to see online world tour as well. The one friend I had that was interested and used to play GH with me has lost interest in playing RB after I got it. Although I don't know if I could commit enough time to an online world tour with others and question just how difficult it might be to arrange times for everyone to be online and play at the same time. Quite the conundrum.

So, the inclusion of a great feature for people who can play multiplayer is a dis to you?
Someone thinks they're the center of the universe
they've also announced that BWT will be online at some point, they just haven't got it yet, so don't cry yet... but you are going to have to miss out on your achievements (oh teh noes)
I don't have anyone to play BWT with either, but I love that it's included and I look forward to when it does become online compatible... that doesn't tick me off in any way, on the contrary, I see it as an advancement and love that it's there, even though i can't get to use it... yet.

Of course it is a dis to people like me. It isn't an "i'm the center of the universe" thing. It's the fact that they watered the game down and made it a lot less interesting and fun for people who don't have people to play with locally.
If they had included something that could only work for multiplayer I wouldn't feel dissed by them including it for those who could use it... but in this case there is no reason why it couldn't be included for everybody. They just left good percentage of their fans out of some of the best game content for no real reason that I can see.
Quit trying to turn my complaint into something that it isn't.

That's good news at least, I'm really glad to hear it. I hadn't heard that announcement.

Technically, that's correct....but very misleading.
They stated that they didn't have time to finish an online version of BWT, and that we could see it at some point.
However, that lets everyone jump to the conclusion that it'd be patched in to the current game (something I'd be VERY happy to see, even if it came with a cost....much like the DLC).
Sean has now repeatedly said that no one from Harmonix has said that Online BWT would be patched into RockBand, making me believe that we're going to have to wait until RockBand 2 or something of that nature before we ever see it.

just play online in band quickplay till the add BWT to online. but honestly, just get some of your friends to come over and play with you every now and then, luckily for me i play with my brother and sister, and have my friends come every now and then to play.

band quickplay is fairly meaningless as it doesn't contribute to anything and the scores aren't tracked. it's super-double-plus meaningless on PS3, where you can't even talk to anyone. Playing as a band is only fun if it has some kind of consequence and / or you actually know (or at least can interact with) the other people, it's fairly pointless otherwise.
the lag issues don't help either as it means you don't really get the 'style' of the people you're playing with (people online won't hear your super-awesome drum fills properly for instance), but that's not something HMX can really do anything much about.
I'm not bothering with online play till they get online BWT going.

You're viewing this backwards, and over reacting. I feel pretty confident there was no meeting in the HMX offices where they decided to 'dis' solo players. It wasn't a decision, it wasn't a design.
The Solo Tours were designed years ago when they created Guitar Hero. It's not "watered down" anything. It's the established gameplay for solo players in this genre.
The Band World Tour is a new freshly designed system for a multiplayer experience. It was invented just now. It's not an established anything, and certainly not a standard for Rhythm Gaming.
BWT has been added to an already established and working system. Nothing was watered down, though it's easy to twist your view of it and turn it backwards. Yes, it should be available online, they've admitted that. But it isn't. Don't turn it into some weird slap in the face.

Do remember that you only need 2 people to play so you dont have to get everyone online at same time to play. The one person that would need to really be on alot would be the leader since band cant play without him so other than that its a smooth ride.

Good point, that I did overlook that.

Sure.. it's a new fresh design.. but why not apply it to both single AND multiplayer? Why make it so that people who can't do the multiplayer have to miss out on the best content in the game? It just doesn't make any sense. All they would have to do is allow me to form a band with only a leader and remove the 2 person requirement.

The reason is clear and voiced by HMX reps/devs MANY times...
Its a band game, a group game...thats the MEAT of it. They designed a game that made people play with other people(in the same room for now hopefully some day online)...that means you need multiple members to make up a band.
I personally WISH they would have made a Rock Band Simulator but they didn't...they WANTED you to NEED other people.
The fix for that is to get a mic stand and start playing bass and singing...thats what my wife does and if SHE can do it, ANYONE can(she is up to hard/hard...so thats pretty good in just a month).
But honestly, its a social game...like it or not. I agree with the decision HMX made but MY question is...WHY'D YA LEAVE OUT THE BASS SOLO TOUR??? But thats another design question for another time and place.

I have to agree I don’t have too many friends interested in RB and I’m disappointed the whole World Tour is restricted to just the multi player portion of the game.
It would have been a lot more fun for them to let you participate in the world Tour with computer controlled band members, who perhaps have need to be upgraded as you advance maybe your lead singer develops an attitude or a drinking problem and cost you money to replace ….LOL…now that would be a Rock Band simulation….heheh…..oh well perhaps we'll see it in RB2

I hate to say this but considering that it wouldnt take a great deal of effort to make BWT as a Solo OR Multi experience gives me very little sympathy for some of your points of view.
If this was an MMO and people were crying about the loss of a single player experience I would tell them to Shut up and quit whining. But as it is there is no decent reason that BWT couldnt be Single or Multi other than a "design decision". A term I loath since quite often when a company says they made a "design decision" its usually at the expense of the customer.

I would have no problem with them giving incentives to play multiplayers... such as having cash and/or fan rewards increased by having more people in your band.... giving you a reason to want to have a band rather than playing alone, but it really sucks for people who don't have the option of having band members locally that they can't even participate in the meat of the game content.
That being said, I did have the opportunity to play with a friend for a few hours last night... I was playing drums and he was playing guitar and it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately it isn't like we can do it all the time and actually progress through. Makes me wish I was a teenager again instead of in my mid-30's. When you're a teenager, pretty much all of your friends are gamers to some degree and there is nothing "odd" about calling them over at any time of day to play video games :)
