All I can say is thank God and let the speculation begin
“He is trying not to cling to the things that have worked in the past,” said Christopher Nolan, who directed “The Dark Knight” and is working on another Batman sequel.

Still crossing my fingers that Bane will be the villain. Like the COMIC Bane, the smart one. Not that big lunkhead from the movie.

I'd never thought of that but Bane would be amazing.
The casual way they mention it makes it seem like we should know this already.

I have to admit I'd prefer one of the classic villains. The Riddler could work, but if they go with the 'Batman versus organized crime' angle of the past couple of movies, Penguin or Black Mask could be good too.

The problem is that Penguin/Riddler are in EVERY Batman incarnation. Yeah so's the Joker but you kinda have to do the Joker. It's Battie's Lex Luther type. We've seen those other two in every version from the old Adam West TV show up to the more modern movie series. It's time to branch out.
I know they've done Bane before, but never as the main feature and never the way he was presented in the comics. That's who paralyzed Batman after all. He deserves to be the top feature. Black Mask maybe.

Yep, and it's gonna be another reboot, not a sequel to Superman Returns.

The thing with Penguin and Riddler is that they've been done, but (other than in Batman:TAS) have never been done right. The Schumacher/Carrey version of Riddler was a cheap Joker knockoff with a riddles gimmick, and whereas Burton's take of Penguin as a freak of nature was interesting, it's a far cry from the criminal mastermind he's always been in the comics. And I do feel that after TDK, a criminal mastermind who is possibly seemingly legit is the perfect opponent for a Batman who is now considered an outlaw himself. That's why I think Penguin or Black Mask would work (possibly Ventriloquist and Maxie Zeus as well, although they seem too far out there for Nolan's Gotham).
My problem with Bane is that he is very much a 90's character in terms of design: overly powerful, overly smart, but severely lacking in personality. He still feels like a two-dimensional plot device to put Batman out of commission and replace him with, again, a typically '90s 'edgy' version of Batman, similar to what Doomsday was to Superman. When their initial storylines were over (with varying degrees of success), both characters have always felt rather redundant to me.
I guess we'll just have to see. For all we know, Nolan will throw us a curveball and feature a diabolical team-up of Egghead and Bat-Mite as the main villains for the next movie. What an egg-citing possibility! :D

I love how across media it's referred to as a "Dark Knight Sequel" rather than a third installment.
"Hey, you guys see Rocky IV?"
"Oh, the Rocky III sequel? Yeah, that thing was awesome."

We should accept now that it won't be as good as the Dark Knight (probably.) Unless you didn't like the Dark Knight.
I'm going for Hugo Strange.

It's been hinted that the Riddler will be the villian here. I just hope we don't get Jim Carrey as Riddler again...God, he disgraced the character.

It's not like Joel gave him room to experiment or take the role seriously. I'm sure Carrey could do a darkened, serious Riddler well.

My vote for a Nolan version of the Riddler goes to Michael Emerson. He's like a creepier Kevin Spacey.
I wouldn't object to Carrey redeeming himself in the role either, though. I don't much care for his comedy, but I've really enjoyed him in his more serious roles so far.
And, speaking of the villains discussed earlier, I'd like to see Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin or, if they choose to use him after all, Danny Trejo as Bane.

All right! Without Nolan, the sequel just wouldn't be able to capture the essence of Begins and The Dark Knight. I wonder who the villain(s) will be?!

This ^ Heath Ledger made that movie, the laugh alone is all it took. I am a fan of Aaron Eckhart but his performance as Two Face wasn't really that amazing (then again, Heath Ledger basically stole the film)

Even she said the movie was a pile of steaming **** when she won her Razzie.
It would be exciting to see the real Penguin and Bane in a B-man movie though.

Poison Ivy as an "Eco-Terrorist" would be awesome. It would fit in todays world really well.
I just don't know who would make a good Poison Ivy.

If/when they bring back the Joker, if they don't cast Alan Tudyk, it will be a gross oversight.

I didn't even enjoy Ledger's performance. For me, it was as overrated as the rest of the movie.

Helena Bonham would makes perfect sense for Harley Quinn. It's Johnny Depp playing Riddler that you should be hated for.

Hopefully there's only two villains. Spider-Man 3 and Batman and Robin had 3, and look at how well recieved they were.
Is Nolan directing it? He better, because Burton didn't direct Batman vs. Ace Ventura and look at how well it's holding up.

Actually both David and Johnny wouldn't be that bad, according to me. I don't really care, as long as it's not freaking Jim Carrey again...

I have to disagree with you on this one. I think HBC is too old for the part, and to be honest, I don't feel that she does the manic kind of crazy particularly well... I found her portrayal of Bellatrix one of the few weak performances in the HP movies (although Michael Gambon is a lot worse still).
I don't really know who I'd cast as Quinn, though. I used to think Fairuza Balk would be a good choice for the part, but she's probably too old for the part as well. Maybe Kristen Bell? She was one of the few positive things in season 2 of Heroes.

Kristen Bell and/or Alan Tudyk might actually get me to watch another Batman movie.
