I have the playstation 3 copies of both rockband and rockband 2. I have always wanted a peripheral that would not require a dongle to connect to the playstation 3. I have yet to see someone make a guitar that fulfills my desire so recently I have been looking into ways to make it happen myself. One of the best solutions that I could think of was to mod a guitar and an original playstation controller together. This solution however has one big problem. I am unable to get a playstation 3 controller to act as a guitar within these games. This feature was last available on the early guitar hero 1 and 2 series that I played. Is it possible to remove the restriction of microphone control only with normal playstation 3 controllers for rockband 1 and rockband 2 so that I may continue forward with my project.

It is not. Standard controllers can only be used for vocalist characters.

In addition to davidshek, I'll give you a friendly hint. Over in the Rock Band sub-forum, there is a thread where a lot of other people discuss stuff like this. There you can recieve helpful advice, and maybe get your suggestion in RB3. Here in Tech Support, it is likely to be neglected.

Regardless, I would recommend against modding your controllers unless you REALLY know what you're doing. It voids the warranty.
