I'm thinking about giving up on Rock Band for the Wii, and getting an Xbox 360 and Rock Band 2 for it, and just sticking to the Xbox for RB. Wii's great for all the other games we have, but there's a few things I don't like about RB for the Wii...#1, no chance of exporting of Rock Band songs to Rock Band 2. #2, Wii RB guitars are ALL wireless. #3, no HDMI hookup for the Wii, so it can be a little hard to see lyrics when singing songs on RB. I'm pretty sure my Wii's fried, I know it's still under the warranty but I can't find the receipt for the kit, and replacement guitars are pretty pricy.

Wouldn't really be that drastic a switch, as I still love the Wii and would still use it for the other games I have for it. Plus, I bought the RB Wii kit on clearance for a STEAL.

Anyway, I have a few questions..

#1, Will I be able to re-download without purchasing again the songs I purchased on Rock Band 2 for the Wii if I switch to the Xbox 360 console?

#2, Can anyone with an Xbox here tell me which would be the best one to get?? I want one with enough space that I could download tons of RB songs without running out of room. Do they all save to the Xbox's hard drive? I know you can get ones with big hard drives. Do they use SD cards like the Wii does?

Mmm...I think that's it for now...til I think of something else. I hope I put this in the right forum..

#1. You'll have to re-purchase all the dlc, it's not transferrable between game platforms.

#2. I'm certainly not an expert on XBox's, but if you're planning on downloading lot's or RB songs, I'd get the one with the largest drive possible. SD cards are not used for storage on the XBox, hard drives are.

#1 That's what I was afraid of...But it might still be worth it...Who knows, maybe I just need time to cool down..

#2 Yeah, I figured. Just worried about prices. Where's the best place online to order one, so I can look at the prices?

The Xbox 360 comes in four main varieties.

The Arcade model has no hard drive, but you can buy one for it (Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=node%3D11846801%2C14220161&field-keywords=hard+drive&x=0&y=0) tells me that there are 250GB models available alongside the normal 20, 60, and 120GB sizes, and the 250GB is only $5 more than the 120GB).
The Pro model (20 or 60GB HD) has been phased out in stores, but it's still available on eBay for around $100 or $150 based on the HD size.
The Elite model (120GB HD) usually runs for $300 in stores and around $250 on eBay.
Also, starting in March, there's a Final Fantasy XIII model being sold with a 250GB HD at $400.

If you plan on sticking with the Wii for your everyday gaming needs and use the 360 just for RB, the 60GB Pro would be your best option. It'll only be about $150 for the console and you can pay for all things RB if you sell your Wii's RB setup. If you do this, you'll have to look on eBay, as no major retailers (brick and mortar stores or Amazon) sell the Pro.

If you do a full on conversion to the 360 (which would probably be the best idea; its games are way better than the shovelware developers put out for the Wii, and it has a fantastic online system), I'd suggest the Arcade and the 250GB drive. While it's more expensive (around $300 all together), selling everything you have for your Wii will let you recoup a good deal of your losses and that massive HD will store tons of other games and Xbox Live content. Also, the Arcade models are newer, so they have the newer chipset that makes them less prone to the dreaded Red Ring of Death that could plague many a Pro. If you do this, you can get the Arcade in almost any store (and many give you some sort of reward, like a giftcard, for doing so) and you'll want to go to Amazon for the hard drive.

In my opinion, the 360 is scores better than the Wii. I made the switch last April and couldn't be happier with it. Just be sure to thoroughly research your options before you take on something like this.

Thanks for all that information, very helpful.

Well, I'm still happy with the Wii...I wouldn't want to get rid of it, and I'd still want to keep the Rock Band equipment, because of the songs I downloaded (as a backup it would be nice). I was just extremely upset with my wireless guitar going on me recently...I just put in a request for a replacement, so we'll see how that goes.

Still considering the Xbox, though, but SOLELY for the Rock Band...I'm not a big gamer at all, but love Rock Band. I really wouldn't go crazy with buying games for it. But like I said, there are some features I like about it...HDMI...exporting of Rock Band songs to Rock Band 2...wired instruments...

Still, there's the whole money issue...I think I'll just wait and see how things with the replacement guitar go.

Btw, can you upgrade a hard drive for an Xbox? For example, If I went with the 60GB like you suggested, cand I later get a new one with more capacity? If I was to use it for Rock Band alone, I really wouldn't need a 120- or higher-gig hard drive. I filled up a 2GB SD card downloading songs, and I'd say that's about more than half of what I'd want to download total. 60GB WOULD be more than enough.

You can upgrade the hard drive, you just need Microsoft's official data transfer kit. Also, the hard drives are super expensive (relative to a regular non-Xbox hard drive--I've seen 1TB drives go for around $100), so it's best to start with the highest capacity possible.

Well like I said, I'd only use it for Rock Band, so I think I'd be ok with a medium-sized one. I'm really not too worried about it. And $100 for a 1TB - that's what I paid for my PC's external hard drive. I wouldn't even fill up 1/4 of that (hell - I've had my PC's for almost a year now, been putting music on it constantly - about 300 GIGS - and it's just about a quarter full now...so yeah, that would be pretty useless for an Xbox for me).
