Having played GH2 with both wired and wireless controllers, I much prefer wireless guitars.
The E3 video showed wired guitars. Are we going to be stuck with wired guitars at release? That would suck. :(

They used the GH2 Xbox guitars AFAIKT at E3. The Rock Band guitars are going to be wireless, this has been discussed on here many times.

Discussed but never confirmed.
Those were the new Fender guitars at E3, but that doesn't mean anything. There has been no confirmation either way in any of the posts I've read; I searched. Why can't Harmonix tell us? It's only 120 days to release (based on game store estimates) so I'm assuming production has started already, since making unique controllers like these is going to take a lot of work.

Well I WANT wireless. I'm sure they have both a wired guitar and a wireless one.

Yeah, I want wireless too. How can you rock out if you're tethered by a short cable?

It's not confirmed? I thought it is confirmed?
Anyway, I don't care that much about that. It will rock with or without wireless guitars. (Wireless would be better though)

Well, I don't like wireless guitars. I found playing with my brothers guitar, the frets are lower into the guitar and aren't as loose so you have to add more pressure, not a big thing but it messed me up. Also the whammy bars isn't as loose as a wired guitar. I like to whammy bar the hell out of songs. The biggest issue we had is the batteries. The guitar lost bettery power so my bro went a while playing with my guitar. We couldn't play co-op for maybe 2 weeks.

As i have said before Wired is the Best and most reliable just make the cable longer so players can move around and such :D

For $10 bucks I got a nine feet extension on my X-Plorer. 9 FEET! $10!
My point is I really don't mind. I actually like it because it FEELS like my real guitar. But to that affect wireless has a luxurious ease of use that I enjoy.
At the end of the day, as long as the Fender feels good in my hands, I couldn't care less.
And I own a wired GH Gibson SG, X-Plorer, and a wireless Flying V. They're all nice but as a choice I tend to go wired.

If the wireless guitar is gonna need batteries i'd much prefer a wired guitar. **** spending all that money on batteries

Just make 'em rechargable like the 360 controller.

Good point.
Still the local Wal-Mart has like a hundred AA batteries for twenty dollars.

I need to save every penny to buy every DLC song. every band needs a diverse catalog of songs.
did i spell catalog wrong?

Yeah but you can make it rechargeable. I don't see why they couldn't just make the guitar compatible with the rechargeable packs the controller uses. I don't know anyone who has the wireless controller and uses batteries. 10 bucks you spend on batteries for a month you could get a battery pack to last you a couple years.

I have a PS3 so it would be interesting to see what they offer for that if wireless then it would be blue-tooth which isn't bad they could even use the same battery setup that the sixaxis uses although that would add more to the cost so it would most likely be battery powerd as the Blu-ray remote is.. even if they do go wired it wouldn't be bad for me i have a 5 metre USB 2.0 extension cable more than enough for me to rock with.

I don't know about the rest of you, but at the higher levels of play (Read: hard and expert) I notice lag on the wireless guitar for the PS2 (RedOctane version which everyone says is the best out) and almost exclusively play the wired now.
Some quick comments first:
- Yes I have new batteries and replace them quite often (rechargeables) to make sure this isn't the situation
- I am no more than 4 feet away at any given point so distance isn't a factor
- It uses proprietary wireless protocol so there is no interference with which I am affected
- This lag is very subtle and ONLY noticeable when at the higher end of playing and skill level
- It is not in my head as other high-end players have made the same comments and experienced the same effect
So please don't knee jerk and discount my comments based on one of the issues above.
I originally played almost exclusively on my wireless RO PS2 controller through easy and medium but once I got into hard and especially expert when I was hitting lots of 5-10 note hammer on/offs I noticed I was missing them quite a bit even though I felt I should have been making them. It was more like playing GH1 with the hammer on/offs. Switching to the wired guitar I make a much larger percentage of the tough sections. I find in general I will hit my 5-star with the wired but can only achieve 4 stars for the exact same song with the wireless.
I even "let" my friends play the wireless so I have an advantage. Quick Story: My good friend and I are very close in skill level. We battle all the time in pro-face off mode. Depending on who has the wireless guitar will dictate who is the loser of the match. We will often switch so the wireless handicap is given to the slightly better player depending on the song and who plays it better.
So with all of this said, I personally prefer a wired guitar given the state of the PS2 wired guitar and ONLY if the Rock Band wireless version is *TRULY* equivalent to the wired would I want it. Claiming they are the same is not going to cut it this time as I fell for that in the past. Perhaps a year later of development, 2nd generation, or even BlueTooth will help...
Oh and I don't have high hopes for BlueTooth either as my BT wireless keyboard and mouse have that subtle lag as well compared to a wired keyboard only it is more pronounced using the MS BT keyboard/mouse combo. Good range, poor response.
Just my $0.02,
Chris

i completely forgot about that. I too have had friends complain of lag on wireless controllers. Very very good point.

My stance is if the cord is longer than the GH 2 cord, I'll take the wired. I don't want to shell out money on batteries when I could buy the DLC. However, I want to be able to set up the whole group of people playing so everyone can see the screen at a decent angle and we're not huddled together and unable to play through.
I know the GH 2 cord was somewhat lengthy, but if they had a few feet onto that then I can definitely be satisfied with a wired guitar. If they go wireless and wired, I'll pick up a wired guitar after I receive the bundle if that includes wireless. I just hope we get some details soon so I can plan out how I'm going to go about this.

I play on the TAC wireless controller (the red Flying V out) and I can tell you, if I have to play wired ever again, I will be very, very unhappy.
First of all, I have experienced zero lag with this controller. The battery life is also substantial. I have maybe used 4 batteries since I got the controller in Christmas (6 months ago), and that includes the ones that are in there now. I also like to rock out while playing, jumping all over, using the whole room, and if I'm wired to my Xbox, that will not happen. Wireless is definitely the way to go.
