My whammy bar just broke. :(
It didn't break off, but it won't spring back up so i have to lift it back and forth to use it.
It is also starting to stop registering.
What should i do about this? I went to the support site and was going to get a new guitar but the whammy bar wasn't under the list of not working.
Please help.

Thanks in advance.

My spring broke on Saturday. I just chose the my guitar isn't functioning properly option. Glad I did too because on Tuesday the whammy bar stopped working completely, it still moves around but now moving it doesn't do anything.

Replacement guitar arrived today, but they sent me a 360 guitar. Doesn't help much since I have a PS3.

I've heard nothing but bad stories about EA replacing broken guitars with broken guitars. My guitar had the doublestrum problem and the whammy bar problem, but both are fixable without having to deal with EA.

Go to your local dollar store and purchase those extremely small rubber bands for girl's hair (the size you can fit around your pinky finger) and put it where your spring broke off. You can use either one or two depending on how loose you want the whammy bar to be.

I know this voids the "warranty" but it seems to me that the replacement guitars just break again anyways.

I fixxed it by taking apart my guitar and adding rubber bands to the whammy bar part. I found this video that helped and i will gladly post it.

I know it is guitar hero, but it works just the same for Rock Band. Instead of puttin the bands on the screw part just put it on the switch that changes the effects of your overdrive.

Hope it helps.:D:D:D:D

Hey SURF, thanks for the info.
I've been reading about everyones horror stories about getting crappy replacement guitars (thats when they don't get an empty box) and kept thinking to myself, Thank God that hasn't happened to me. Sure as $#iT, my whammy bar just popped and propping it up and down manually is a pain in the @$$. So, I'm gonna try the rubber band fix....

Ok Ok i got whammy bar problems also, however its not the spring. The whammy bar springs back just fine, but when i go to use it....nothing. Does that affect the points you can get also? just curious, because i need all the help i can get. And i know its not the spring cause i checked, but when the guitar is closed and i give it a slight shake, it sounds almost like a lightbulb filament in there shaking. But nothing appeared to be loose. Any thoughts? Or is this my new bass guitar?

I am wondering this... Do you get more points when you whammy a sustained note??

No. The only thing the whammy bar does to help you is extract more energy for overdrive. Other than that, it's useless (save for manipulating the sound).

Tooth braces rubber bands work the best you have to take your guitar appart though. They last for monthes also. Ive seen somebody take the rubber bands off brocolli heads and attach them to the out side of the guitar (wammy bar to the strap knob) but it looks kinda ghetto.

Obviously, this won't help with the spring issue...but may help when the whammy bar doesn't work right...

Try a new set of batteries...

I just went though a warranty replacement because I was having trouble with overdrive and the effects switch exactly as described. I did the express replacement so I had two guitars and decided to try one last time before I shipped the old guitar back to get a flawless guitar solo on "Charlene" with the "Tug of war method." My old guitar was working fine again!? Then started acting up again after a while of playing, so I went ahead and shipped the old one back. Two days later, my brand new sunburst replacement started acting the exact same way!?! I start dreading the worst reading on the forums about people going through 2-3 guitars to get a good one.

Then I realized I was using the original batteries, so I replaced them and everything works fine now, even verified by going back and forth between the good set and the bad set. And if you dont play for a day or 2 (with the power switch actually off), the batteries will build up a little more of a charge making the problem intermittent.

But for future reference...I have verified on my guitar that the dying batteries will in fact mess with the wireless range (of course, but by almost twice as short), the overdrive tilt sensor, the effects switch, and the the whammy bar (how much you have to wiggle it for it to function), and make the icon "throb" like your constantly hitting a button on the selection screens, while still hitting 100% as far as notes played.

You get more OD when you whammy a sustained OD (white) note. Nothing extra for a 'regular' one though.
