#1) PS3 - GH3 controller (nope, patch issue right?)
#2) PS2 - GH 1 & 2 controllers (nope, they tell u a pellican adapter might work, but it doesnt right?
#3) 3rd Party Wirless PS2 guitars (nope, same as #2 right?)
So basically, since they dont sell the individual guitars yet is the ONLY WAY TO PLAY WITH 2 GUITARS is to have someone else with the game (and of course only PS3 version) ?
What a bummer.. I have the GH1 ps2 guitar, GH2 ps2 guitar & wireless dual range guitar (http://www.theantcommandos.com/double_range_freedom.aspx)
And now strat with RB.. so this means I need a 5th guitar? WHAT THE H*LL cmon

That`s right. The only way to play a 4 piece band on the PS3 is to have two bundles. Welcome to the party guys.

Here is what the Harmonix team posted about PlayStation compatibility.
http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15440
As we have said in the past, Harmonix and MTV Games believe in an open standard philosophy of hardware and game compatibility. We think that there should be interoperability between music instrument controllers across all music games. This is clearly in the best interest of consumers, game developers and console manufacturers and will only help to grow the music game genre as well as inspire innovation and creativity.
Two weeks ago, Harmonix created a software patch for the Sony PLAYSTATION 3 version of Rock Band that allowed for guitar compatibility and support for third party peripherals, including enabling use of Activision's Guitar Hero III controller with Rock Band. The compatibility patch was submitted, approved and had been scheduled for release by Sony on Tuesday, December 4. Unfortunately, Activision objected to the compatibility patch's release. The patch remains with Sony, but we have been told that it will unfortunately not be released due to Activision's continued objection.
As is the case with the Microsoft Xbox360, we believe that Sony PLAYSTATION 3 users should be able to use the peripheral of their choice with Rock Band. We sincerely hope that Activision will reverse its decision and allow release of the compatibility patch and further, that Activision will allow Guitar Hero III to support Rock Band guitar controllers as well. We welcome all third party developers who wish to support our controllers and will provide any required support in order for them to do so.
We believe that when consumers have choice, everyone wins. Harmonix and MTV Games hope that Activision and others will also adopt this philosophy.
Work is being done to open up compatibility but that is reliant on other companies' cooperation.

that still seems to only mention the PS3 wireless GH3 controller right? It talks about 3rd party but only mentions that one guitar. What about the GH1 & 2 guitars from PS2 which were also made by Harmonix. Seems Harmonix should be able to work with Harmonix without any outside negotiation right?

Harmonix didn't make Guitar Hero hardware; I believe that was Red Octane.

Yes - until the patch is released (which is looking increasingly unlikely), the only options on PS3 are
Buy a second bundle (note: as long as separate instruments are not available, you could probably recoup much of the cost by selling the extra game, mic and drum kit on eBay separately)
File for an RMA on your guitar with express shipping and don't send back your guitar - this ends up costing you $125 (probably more than you would end up paying for an extra bundle if you sell the excess contents)
Wait for standalone guitars (official or 3rd-party) to become available

As Violet says, those were made by RedOctane, not Harmonix. Plus, from the whole adapter issue, it looks like Sony's part of the problem here in that their SIXAXIS protocol doesn't seem to allow for all input peculiarities allowed by the old PS2 controllers, breaking hammer-ons & pull-offs - it would be pointless for HMX to implement support for GH1/2 guitars via adapter if that support could never provide a fully functional game experience (it would invite even more whining than the current situation).

Right, well red octane made the controller, but i guarantee they made it to the software specifications of Harmonix, not the other way around. Also, anything is possible. If you have a game console, a game controller, and a way to link the 2 (ps2 to usb adapter) its always possible to make them work the only thing standing in between is the software. You cant just say its "impossible to write software to accomodate" it isnt.
Also, funny thing I just realized as I'm playing PS2 version of GH3 with my GH1 guitar. These things never seemed to have problems did they? I don't remember anyone complaining about the GH1 & 2 guitars being piles of junk. Oh well, I guess we are all just end consumer units to the big video game Gods!
Thanks sony, harmonix, red octane, activision, ea! Oh well hopefully someone will just crack the PS3 firmware soon and we can all install open source stuff to fix this lame situation. Here's hopin!

I have heard that the old wired GH 1 and 2 guitar controllers work.

You heard somewhat wrong - they work for Rock Band on the PS2, and on PS3 they probably don't (but even if they do, it will be with broken HO/PO as with GH1 & 3 on the PS3).
