I thought the big deal was that they were padded? It doesn't look like it's very padded at all from the picture.

Looks like a great bag. Two questions though:
1) Where do the sticks go? is there a pouch somewhere or do you just toss them in there?
2) Do all the bags have the "tentacle" design on them or is there a "plain" version available?
I was thinking of purchasing a bag but I find the design to be quite ugly.

I almost got one but I considered the fact that I am to lazy to take my drums apart and when I go over my friends house I just give up my passenger seat. I am trying to disside (i spell so bad my spell check cant even help) if I want to get the guitar bag or not, I would feel pretty hardcore carrying that around.

why the hell can't you get the base apart? lol
and about the bag...no thanks...i'd rather just load the whole thing on my xterra it's way faster, that's just a waste of money and time if you get it

1.) The area where it says "Rock Band" is a pouch. It's big enough that I have the drumsticks, mic, and USB hub all stored in there.
2.) As far as I know they all have the design on them, but this is an item that is not currently available, so it makes your decision real easy. If you didn't get in on the initial order, you're pretty much hosed on getting one, at least for the time being.
And I drive a sports car..... so it's not like I can throw the assembled kit in the car. I have to break it down, and this bag makes carrying it around very easy... not to mention it makes storing it when it's not in use a lot easier, too. So no, it is not a waste of time and money.
And to answer another question, yes the bag is padded.

No idea. I'm going to take it apart with a hammer.

Dude, I just may have to get me one of those. That would make taking my drums with me when I go places SO much easier.

If you want one it looks like Amazon Jan 31st 2008 if your best bet as the RockBandStore.com no longer even lists this product.

I agree that the diagram makes it look far more padded and rigid than these photos. These pictures are very rare on teh wholez internets since I've been searching and searching and haven't seen any new photos of the actual bag. Is the bag rigid in any way? Any pressboard sheets in it anywhere for protection/rigitity? Opinions of it overall?

I'm not saying the bag isn't nice but I'm becoming less confident that it's $50 nice. I've worked out a lovely travel solution for the console, guitars, and other bits so far but haven't quite figured out the drums. It looks like a drum-kit/ mic stand/ guitar stands duffel is an inevitability.
Still for the people that value a good fit for the controller this bag is probably very handy.

Yeah, I'm probably one of the first people to get one, I ordered it the day they went on sale, so I imagine these are some of the first pics anyone outside of Harmonix has posted.
The controller and accessories fit inside very nicely. The sides of the bag have padding about 1/4" thick inside - enough that unless you're banging the thing around majorly, it's gonna be able to handle a bump here or there without any real issue. It is not rigid, it's constructed like any decent gig bag.... meaning... it's good for light hauling around. Don't expect it to protect the kit from a serious impact, or survive the cargo hold on an airplane, but do expect that it offers a very reasonable amount of protection for the kit.
The zippered portion, and the bottom of the bag (when it's standing upright) are not padded, but are made of a fairly thick nylon material - it would take a fairly sharp object to do damage to it, and it offers the kind of protection you'd expect from a gig bag. The straps that hold the pieces in are elastic with velcro on the ends... they hold the pieces in pretty tight, they can't really move around once they are secured.
Fit & finish are what I expected, it seems to be pretty solid and well put together, and I don't feel at all like I got ripped off. Considering what a decent gig bag for a real guitar costs, and that this is pretty much the same type of construction... I think it was worth the money.
