360 or PS3 version

Hey Guys,

I hope to find a RB kit up here in Canada in the next few days.

I have a 360 and a PS3 if you had a choice which system would you get RB for.

Which has had the less bugs and best performance?

If you want to use GH guitars or get downloadable content early, go Xbox.

The 360 version has support for the Les Paul, which is the more durable guitar controller IMO. Plus with two Les Paul guitars you can plug the drums and mic into the 360s usb ports, and skip having to waste a outlet on the powered hub. The 360 also allows for headset support which if I remember right the ps3 does not. I'd say go for the 360 version but you can wait for a ps3 owner to speak their opinion too.

The two games play exactly the same.

I think having the wireless Strat makes all the difference. It's great being ablw to sling it behind you between songs and move around freely. It's also one (and soon to be two) less USB cables strown across the floor.

Waiting two extra days for DLC isn't a big deal. By the time songs release on PSN there are usually YouTube samples of the songs, which is great for deciding wether or not to purchase a track (either because of the quality or the cover or the difficulty/uniqueness of note charts).

Speaking of DLC, you pay in real money on the PSN. It may not be a bid deal to some, but I don't feel like I'm being jerked around by converting my cash to monopoly money before I make a purchase.

And I know it will lead to a bunch of flames, but system stability should be taken into account. I've put in several 12+hour sessions on my PS3 and have never once worried about my system bricking. That kind of constant stress can reak havok on other systems.

If you're big into online play, grab the version that most of your friends have. If you're more interested in local play with actual friends, I'd personally suggest the PS3 version for the wireless guitars and stability/peace of mind.

I have the 360 version. The only down side is the wired controller and thats not a big deal. You can even counter the negative statement by the ability to use your wireless gh3 controller (if its that big of a deal). Those are the only down sides to the ps3 and xbox games, making them both 'equal'.

edit: my name is logan too! go 'logan's everywhere!

Letting a forum decide for you may be a bad idea.

Take the differences, weigh them for yourself, and decide which you should get.

The top thing to consider is... if any of your friends have RockBand, and you ever think you may want to even play online with them one time... buy that one. There is no cross-platform play, so if your friend has the PS3 version, get that, if he has the XBox version, get that.

The other differences you should weigh on your own as to how important they are to you... they are:
Wireless Guitar controller - PS3 only
Guitar Hero controller compatibility - XBox only
Headphone port on the drum kit - XBox only
Earlier DLC (DownLoadable Content... new songs) availability - XBox (2 days earlier)
Free online play - PS3 (XBox requires an XBL account)

Here is some mis-information in this thread, and elsewhere, that I have heard:
PS3 is more stable (Not true... In un-hacked consoles, I have not heard of either system crash using RockBand, ever. This rumor has only been true on other games.)
Required USB Hub on PS3 (Not entirely true... the 60GB and 80GB PS3s have 4 USB ports, and can support all instruments without a hub, only the 40GB PS3 needs a hub.)
DLC is cheaper on the PS3 (True, but not really an issue. You typically only spend $0.01 more on XBox versions of the same song, because the XBox point system charges an even dollar amount, while the PS3 songs end with $x.99.)

As for my selfish suggestion, I say get the PS3 version, because Microsoft doesn't deserve the XBL royalty cash, while Sony's PSN does, and because I hate XBox fan-boys who spread mis-information in general. But the choice is yours, and I hope I gave you the guidelines to make an informed, and unbiased opinion, before I tossed in my 2-cents.

Couldn't have said it better. An all around excellent post.

I own a PS3 only but if I had both and was otherwise committed to paying for Live I think based on the feature set, I'd have to take the 360 version. No controller compatibility and no voice comms leads me to wonder what else we won't get, like stability patches and bug fixes.

Oh yeah, Parodygm, you reminded me of that difference as well...

PS3 online play is free, while XBox requires an XBL account. I will add that to my first post.
