View Full Version : Yay...got a #1

Tied, but it still counts. =)
I am now tied #1 on the PS3 charts for Creep (expert drums). Full combo. I guess I used the same Overdrive path as the other guy with the top score: take all overdrive immediately *except* the last one, which you delay by one chance so it doesn't fall on a very slow period.
The roll is 6x red, 4x yellow, 2x blue, 1x green+bass. Start on the right hand and it just goes straight across. I played it a couple times in practice mode to figure it out, still can't read rolls at RB's slow scroll speed very well.
I managed to get two tries where I made the roll but narfed up some random beat, heh.
(My PSN name is HappyAssassin).

there's a forum at ScoreHero, but I'm too lazy to register there. =) Kinda like these forums more anyway.
I'm working on Vasoline and Gimme Shelter now. I'd do Say It Ain't So but for that weird snare roll. I cannot count that thing. Is it 7, 1, 2, 2, 2 cymbal?

I remember getting a number 1, though it is DLC. I got 1 on Moonage Daydream. Congrats on Creep, I suck at that one due to the bass beat lol
I should try Gimme Shelter Right now!!

and to follow it up I just gold starred GGHT for 12th place on that list.
I am wondering if I'm insane enough to for an FC. Just gotta learn the pattern at the end of the fast section...

if I get any more tomorrow I'll mention it here. pretty close to I'm So Sick, Blitzkrig Bop, Gimme Shelter and Vasoline. sigh. GGHT I lose the pattern at the end of the fast part, other than that there's really no hard bits, just bits where I fall asleep or zone out and start looking out the window or something. :)
anyone else got any FCs they want to brag about? share the thread! :)

I'm so close to getting a perfect in Blitzkreig Bop, but I just need to find what the best Overdrive phrase is. So close...
I have a bunch of full combos and like 20 gold stars, but not all of them are perfect paths. Most of them were done with a taped-together drum pedal and a pair of 2Bs

nice.
I don't really care about the Overdrive paths. It's a stupid system anyway. I tend to just activate OD immediately whenever it comes. All I want to do is FC the songs. I'm not going to worry too much about the 'best' Overdrive path. Actually, I wish you could disable Overdrive so you had to play the *exact* correct chart.
AdamWill2

so no new FCs today but I did beat Foreplay. nuts, the start of that song is hard. doesn't help that I keep losing the bass. In the end I kinda 'cheated' and played the reds all with my left hand, instead of keeping up a full roll like you're presumably supposed to.
edit: okay, thinking about it, you can't really roll those beats. so I guess playing red with left and green / blue with right is the way you're supposed to do it. hmm. feels odd. how does everyone else play that?
rest of it is dead easy though. I was *just* under 5 stars when I got to the ending so I went absolutely nuts (using two feet on the pedal, which is a neat trick I figured out for the endings) and just barely squeaked out the fifth star. yaaay.
(I know you can cheat the endings, but I don't. haha.)

colin: are you asking me? sorry, I don't have a camera, and my phone's framerate isn't high enough to give you video worth watching.
now passed everything except RTTH. i was just too tired to get that tonight. I have no idea what the hell Flirting With Disaster is doing on the top tier, easily 5-starred it first try. It's easier than Cherub Rock, or Detroit Rock City, or any number of songs that come lower on the tiers. Tom Sawyer I passed first try but only 4 stars. Won't Get Fooled Again took me three tries and I lamed out and got through the trickiest extended roll passage by saving up star power for about a minute. Feel bad about that. Reaper and WGFA are the only two songs I had to do that for.
The very first time I played Reaper I nailed every bass triplet up to the long roll section, then died there as I had no clue what was coming. Ever since then the triplets give me all sorts of trouble. It's weird. Took me like ten tries in a row to finally pass the stupid thing.
Of the bonus tour, I found Brainpower and I Get By rather tough. I Get By uses almost exactly the same beat of a song in DrumMania (at the start) but I find it harder to keep it in time on RB for whatever reason.
Tender: no offence intended - I'm just completely clueless about how to use the PS3's online stuff :). How do I accept your invite? Can I still do it?
I managed two misses on I'm So Sick. Frustrating. :\

really annoying thing of the day:
I got a perfect FC of Gimme Shelter (including using the bass+cymbal 'cheat' at the end of each overdrive trigger fill)...
in BWT mode. so it doesn't get on my individual scoreboard.
argh!
have to do that over again.
AdamWill2
12-30-2007, 02:19 AM
ok, so I did it over again. :D Now tied #1 for Gimme Shelter expert drums as well. Two #1s, yay.

12-30-2007, 03:20 AM
Wow. I would love to #1 a song... I'l have to try some of these paths to get the highest scores. My best is #13 on reptillia.
I'm pretty happy with my standings now however - 5 gold starred 13 songs and ranked 52 on the career drumming list. Yeah!
AdamWill2
12-30-2007, 03:37 AM
you need to know about the 'cheat' I hinted at, then. Read about it at Score Hero yesterday. When the overdrive activation trigger cymbal comes along, if you hit the bass at the same time, you get credited points for the bass hit. That's the reason some people have FC scores that differ only by a few hundred. Most of the #1 scores for the easy FC songs seem to be using this technique now.
I don't know if anyone's tested hitting another pad at the same time as well to see if that gets you even more points. Or holding both sticks sideways and hitting all four pads at once. :D
edit: oh, for gimme shelter, just activate OD as soon as you get it. the song's very regular. no benefit to holding it.
coolcool23
12-30-2007, 04:00 AM
Maybe you can answer me this then: does that "extra hit" for the green activation cymbal account for how someone can score 144000 in "I think I'm paranoid" While I 100% it with all overdrive sections hit and get only around 140000? This has been really bothering me!
AdamWill2
12-30-2007, 04:24 AM
yes, that's likely the reason. try doing it again but hitting the bass as well as the cymbal for every overdrive activation.

AH! Yesterday was a bad day for me! I was near FC 4 songs.. and I missed one of the VERY last notes. I had a FC going on Buddy Holly until the last easy note before that lil odd ending. I had a FC going for Gimme Shelter until the 3rd to last note!!
Main Offender I missed a bass note on the ending. And lastly I hit an extra bass not on Brass in Pocket at the end! Man, it really sucks when you are just killing it and miss an easy note at the end!
Adamwill2
Overdrive path on drums?
Are you say you can skip some overdrives on drums to get a higher score. I been trying to nail them all thinking they were set and the drums could not control when they occur.

tender: oh man, I feel for ya buddy.
I had two misses on Sabotage yesterday, one on the tricky fast double bass beat and one that was just a brain-o on one of the really easy blue+red+bass beats.
NoD: if you don't activate overdrive immediately, the game will just keep throwing the overdrive activation fills at you every few seconds until you do. usually there's no point waiting, as every time you get an OD fill, you lose some 'real' notes and hence some points, but occasionally it does - like in Creep, if you activate the final OD immediately, it falls in a *really* slow bit of the song, but if you wait one chance before activating it, it works out a little better.
This also works as a lame cheat for harder songs; if you're having trouble with a particular section of a song just store up overdrive until that point, and then half of it will be missing because of overdrive fills. I had to use that technique to beat Don't Fear The Reaper's longass middle roll. :\
Oh I see thanks, now I'm after your no. 1's. You may see me up there in about 6 months. Na, I'll never beat this game but for me that makes it more fun, I'm not one of those who can just jump in at expert and beat a song to work on the score. I struggle to beat the song for awhile then I can work on the scoring, then go to next level.
I would like to see ya play online sometime, we play online just to set back and watch you expert type jam. Wow, good job
AdamWill2
12-31-2007, 01:02 PM
I'd do some videos but as I mentioned I don't have a cam :\. I don't really play online much as I find it pretty pointless on PS3 (no shared progress, no voice chat) but if you'd like it and you're on PS3 we could certainly set something up. Most of the really high-level players seem to hang at at ScoreHero (rockband.scorehero.com) but I kinda like it more over here :)
btw, you certainly can beat the game. to be honest, drum games are about 95% practice. I don't have any real innate talent for the drums, I've just practiced an assload on Drummania (played on average twenty to thirty games a week for a year and half). You just keep practicing and you get there in the end, it's nearly entirely a function of effort put in. So if you play for long enough, you'll beat it.

How did you FC Creep? I have no trouble kicking be pedal that fast, but for some reason, even though the bass is what you are following, I cannot keep the beat for the life of me!! :( i have a better shot at FC Dani Califonia than Creep for Some Reason lol.
AdamWill2
12-31-2007, 01:14 PM
er, I dunno what to tell ya, really - especially if you say you might FC Dani California, as it uses the *exact same* bass pattern. The only slightly hard bit in Creep is the roll, and that's just 6x red, 4x yellow, 2x blue, 1x green, it rolls straight off from your right hand, perfectly natural roll. The bass doubles are slightly unusual in that they *start* on the offbeat just behind the hi-hat and then catch up with it, whereas starting with the hi-hat and then hitting on the next offbeat is a bit more common. But as I said, Dani does exactly the same thing only faster, so if you can do Dani I've no idea why you wouldn't be able to do Creep.

I highly HIGHLY recommend getting the metal bass pedal reinforcment from rasehead on ebay. OMG its amazing and looks cool too lol. He's really fast at shipping and a great price, you can't beat it. The velcro is used in conjunction with the metal plate on the new pedal you are going to order.....If you are looking to fix your already broken pedal to use until you get the replacement....I'd just tape it up? Idk, I ordered a replacement pedal as soon as I saw it crack and then I ordered the metal pedal a few days later. Hope it helps.

I've no idea, I haven't seen the DLC. In general it'll be much easier to get a high rank on DLC as fewer people have each song. But I haven't seen the song so I can't really say. :)
Today I upgraded Are You Gonna Be My Girl to gold stars and full combo'd Vasoline (including the big rock ending, heh). Just a few hundred points away from #1 on Vasoline, because I can't play my janky bass pedal too fast in Big Rock Endings any more :(
Total career points now past 8,000,000.

gold starred Should I Stay Or Should I Go. This song would be a hell of a lot easier to FC if the overdrive fills weren't so *stupidly* placed. two of them end by chopping off the first beat of one of the slightly tricky off-beat sections, making it way, way harder to get into that section properly. sigh.

FC Blitzkrieg Bop for outright #1 on PS3 (133,975). Some guy on 360 has 134,975, I have absolutely no idea why, as I think I squeezed every single overdrive activation fill, so I've no idea where you'd get another 1,000 points. Maybe there's an OD you can wait to activate or something.

Congratulations!
I am new to the forum so I dont know anyone yet. I play on the 360 and I'm not really that good at drums. I'm halfway through Expert tour and stuck on Run to the hills on Hard tour. :(
The only #1 that I have is for Gimme Shelter. It is my favorite song however. I also Tried to get 1st on Main Offender but I only tied for 2nd. Need an additional 400 points to tie 1st. I guess I must be missing some OD activations notes. I'm really liking Creep so I might try to FC that one later. The only problem I see is the rolls as I'm really horrible at them. Probally the reason I cant pass Run to the hills.
Also I think you can hit other notes besides the bass on the OD. I got an additional 400 points on the first OD in Gimme Shelter (I usually only get 200 points from each OD). It only happened to me once and unfortunately I didnt FC it that time so I cant tell where the extra points came from. Will try to replicate it some time later. Well congrats once again and hope I can post more #1 in the future. :D

greyfoxx: read ScoreHero. You can hit other pads *if they exist on the original chart at that point* (i.e. the very end of the activation fill). If they don't, it'll just do nothing (if it registers as being at the very of the fill) or break your combo (if it registers as being just after).
You can also hit the cymbal twice, fast, if there's actually a cymbal note on the chart at that point. Once to activate OD, once to count as the cymbal on the original chart.
It's all been figured out at ScoreHero.

Hey! I'm uhh.. human? lol. A super late congrats to ya on Creep AdamWill! Everytime I try that song, my leg always says 'screw you!' and gives me misses here n' there. I gave up on that haha.
I think you'll get BHS back wanny1, 'cus that was with all OD's, and lots of misses :(. If you get that funky white note section right next to the blue rolls, that should do it (if that was the white notes you missed?) I had to keep doing that on practice before I got it.
Anywho, rock on fellow drummers!
AdamWill2
01-06-2008, 10:17 PM
hey constble, nice to meet ya. you a real life drummer, or Drummania player, or anything?
Thanks for the congrats, I rarely have trouble with anything in Creep except the roll, it took me three-four tries to nail that.
What OD path do you guys use for BHS? I skip the first one twice, and obviously don't activate the one that comes at the end of the solo, because if you do, it's completely wasted :)
I played it a few times today. I usually got the fast four-beat blue roll OD notes, but I usually miss one or the other of the hihat-snare-snare-hihat quads at the start, and some random stuff later on, including of course that one big messy fill (I guess that's what's keeping anyone from FC'ing it).
I have super-odd results with fills in general. I still can't five-star Detroit Rock City - mainly because I'm used to playing hi-hat with my left hand so the pattern feels totally wrong to me and I keep losing the bass - but I got the super-fast red-yellow roll twice in a row today. weird.
I'll play BHS some more tomorrow. It's a fun song anyhow.
out of interest, constble, are all your best career scores on expert, or are some on hard? I could beef up my career score quite a lot by playing the harder songs on hard, but I don't want to, heh.
constble
01-07-2008, 12:05 AM
I don't play any real drums, so most of my experience just came exclusively from playing Drummania a couple years ago!
Hmm, for BHS, I've only skipped the one at the end solo, and the rest I just do when they pop up. On that beginning part with the hi-hat, snare, snare, hi-hat, do you keep the left arm on the snare? That works like 80% of the time for me, but other times I try to alternate arms for that quad section, and it feels more comfortable but I tend to miss it more often via alternating.
The only half decent OD path that I came up with is on Orange Crush, where you just skip OD during the double hits, and save it for the hi-hat, snare runs. I'm really crappy when it comes to finding the optimal OD's :(
Detroit Rock City.. ohh man those rolls, for some reason, feels slower than what I woulda thought it to be. I try to always start them on the right hand, but I panic sometimes and start going ape crazy with just my left hand for the tail end of a roll. Reallllly bad habit hehe.
All my scores are on expert! I can't play hard 'cus I tend to want to hit more notes, and it sorta throws me off enough where I can't keep a combo going. I'd stick to expert, since some of them, once you nail the notes, become extremely fun :D Like Won't Get Fooled Again... well, except for that crazy run right before the pause.. booo to that!

01-07-2008, 12:34 AM
Man, FCing some of those songs sounds rediculous. I've done it on only a few.
I'm just happy with my gold stars, my drum pads are frequently flakey: although they detect every hit that I perform, they sometimes tend to detect hits on say, the green pad when I whack the red pad. It's been tough, but rewarding.
Personally I just aim to get my career score higher as the FC is alot of luck as well.
AdamWill2
01-07-2008, 12:42 AM
yeah, I hate that bit of WGFA, heh.
what kinda level did you play DM at? sskitzzo is the best DM player playing RB that I know of. I'm at 940 SP for DMV4...roughly, I can FC stuff in the 50s, S 60s and some 70s, A 70s and some 80s, B or C some 90s. If any of the real top DM players decided to take up RB they'd blow the doors off all our scores, I think. =)
for BHS I skip the first OD activation twice because when it pops up it's quite a slow part with some complete pauses. If you wait twice you can then activate it during a fairly regular hh + snare section, which I think should result in more points, but I haven't tested it.
for the hh-s-s-hh bits I usually play r-r-l-r. If I try r-l-l-r I always either play one too many snares, or get the bass wrong. I figured this out from Time We Had, where there's tons of them: r-r-l-r is my best shot at them. I still miss them quite often though.
DRC I'm actually really pretty good at the rolls; it's the pattern that screws me up. Heh. As I said, it's from playing DM open-handed; I'm used to hh being left and snare being right. Flipping around is fine for simple patterns but for the odd pattern DRC uses, I just screw up and hit bass along with my left foot way too often. I often finish rolls by double beating in DM, but for whatever reason, it just doesn't work for me in RB. Unless I learn exactly how to play a roll properly in RB, I'll miss it. Don't know why. Maybe I start throwing in extra bass hits when I have to double beat, which wouldn't matter in DM but would in RB. Or maybe my pads just don't pick up double beats reliably.
Orange Crush is another song I stink at. Just under five stars on it. For whatever reason, I cannot figure out the pattern for the 'breaks' from the common red-yellow pattern - where it throws in three yellows and a green or something - and I break combo there every time. I should just go into practice mode and figure out what the hell that is.
very nice job if all your scores on expert, you must be doing really well on the harder songs =) i could easily jack up my D.O.A, RTTH, Reaper and WGFA scores on Hard, but it just seems a bit lame to do it that way.

I got my 1st for Main Offender on expert vocals, xbox 360. Fun song, great vocal jumps, and nothing too crazy. The parts I had to watch out for was the talky part: "why me?". And the one verse about sticking spitting all over the place, or something. Other than that, I can sing the song naturally (meaning, without sounding like a robot or a zombie).
Daaaaahhhhhh, I really wanted to get 100,000 too! It's really tough...
I squeezed the LIFE out of that song. Unless somebody online has godly vocal squeezing powers, I don't think anybody's going to be able to beat my score. I'm pretty sure that I would have to squeeze about 6 milliseconds more out of the song to get the maximum score.

Gah, I can't think of how that looks now... Xbox is out of comission...however that's pretty good. For me Sabotage was a beast to 5 gold star because of the wierdness and irregularity. If there's any pattern in that at all, let me know!
I know that I'm also pretty close to 5 gold starring some other songs as well...Orange Crush being one... if not for those two or three misses that happen for seemingly no reason. :)

no, there's no recurring pattern to Sabotage. you have to just read it as it comes. it's not very fast though. there's only a couple of bits I ever really miss - there's one really odd switch in the bass tempo in the third 'section' of the song, and one fast double bass hit in the fourth.

I had that exact same reaction about DM players transitioning into RB when I first bought the game. I thought they'd tear it up on the scoreboards and whatnot lol. Man, the last mix I played was probably V2.
The most I could do were probably high 70s. 80+ songs I sorta winged it lol. Good ol' days with Captain's Voyage ;)

heh, that's odd - if you're this good at RB you should be able to make 80s-90s on DM...I can pass quite a lot of level 90s (CiB, DD5, DD2, DD4, You Can't Do It, Little Prayer, Cockpit, Cries In The Wilderness, Balance, apxn and Mascarada, IIRC. apxn and Mascarada are new in V3 and V4) and most level 80s. still, maybe you're not as versed as me in the cheap art of spamming the bass pedal every single beat. heh.
most of the best DM players are in Japan, and RB isn't released there yet. I only know of four or five high skill players (way higher than me or sskitzzo) in North America and I don't think any of them are on RB yet.
There's a guy who stays in Vancouver part of the time who ranks somewhere in the top 100 for DM, I think. He's Japanese native but lives over here sometimes. He's insane, I've seen him SS Timepiece and near-FC DD5. I'll have to get him to play RB next time I see him here. If I was *really* lame, I'd get him to do it under my PSN ID. haha :P

Hmmm, I'm a pretty decent singer, but I hadn't realized sqeezing can boost your score. I hit Top 10's in Welcome Home, Blitzkrieg Bop, Maps, and Wave of Mutilation at one point (have sunk in the standings since then), but I'll have to try this...

finally managed to five star Detroit Rock City today. Actually I did it comfortably, I looked up 15 seconds from the end to see if I was close and I'd already made it, I was like "duh, what?"
I was weirdly good at the overdrive notes (I think I got *all* of them, or all but one, including the one that comes on one of those red-yellow fills) and didn't break combo much during OD periods, which made a big difference. Also I played with really bad technique (smacking the crap out of the pads and stomping the pedal with my foot six inches in the air), which helped me not get my foot going with my left hand again.
It's amusing to note that everyone else has trouble with this ***** of a song too: top score is constble who's over 200,000, but it declines rapidly from there, so much so that my 164,xxx puts me comfortably in 12th place :)
the more I try and get good scores on RB the more it becomes like DM's skill points: when you're just playing for fun you don't really notice, but when you're watching your scores, it becomes apparent that breaking combo really hurts you...one combo break in a bad place can make 5,000 points of difference to a score, easily. Same with OD notes. You really have to try and get long combos going.
Also got some nice score upgrades on Wave Of Mutilation and D.O.A. (nearly over 100,000 on D.O.A. now, if I keep pushing I might finally 5* that thing), pushing my career score over 8.5 million. Whee.

read ScoreHero.
Basically, you can hit whatever notes exist on the original chart at the same time as the OD activation note, and get credited for them. If a green hit exists on the original chart at the same time as the OD activation note, you can play two greens in quick succession, one to activate OD, one to get points for the green on the original chart.

I'm sure Adam will be able to explain it in more detail but let me explain to you how I see it. From what I understood the OD fill actually covers real notes from the note chart. Due to the OD fill they become inactive and you dont get points even if you continue the pattern into the fill. However the theory is that the big crash at the end of the fill is almost always lands where a Bass drum note usually is in the chart.
So the trick is that most people hit Bass+Crashand the game sometimes does register it as an additional note hit and thereby you increase the total points possible for a song if you where to FC it. The thread goes into more detail about there also being other notes that also land with the OD crash and activating the OD earlier so you have a split second to also get hit those additional notes increasing your max points even further.

What I remember reading was that "squeezing" just meant activating overdrive at the very last second. Perhaps I am wrong about this, and if so, someone else please correct me. I just read about it last night. I don't really know the answer as to why it would work. It didn't make sense to me either, but I thought I would try it anyway.
I hope that this helps. Above all, just make sure to have fun. :)

I'll try and work up some kind of video tomorrow. I haven't actually tested the double-cymbal trick myself yet. I just use the simplest, 'hit-bass-at-same-time-as-cymbal' manifestation of the trick, as it feels natural to me anyway.
I went to play Drummania at the arcade today, first time since I started on RB. It was hilarious. My regular scroll speed felt insanely fast at first, and I did *horribly* on the first two songs I played. But then I got used to the DM chart and scroll speed again and was doing almost as well as I usually do, even better on a few things. The oddest thing is that I was catching rolls I didn't catch before - even though I usually suck at rolls on RB. Can't explain that one.
But it just made me believe even more that RB needs hyperspeed. I was catching bits easily that I *know* I would miss if they were charted on RB at its regular scroll speed. Ah well.

Whenever I play the solo career, I sometimes can't do fills correctly from its speed. But if I'm playing with 2 guitarists, it seems a little faster and easier to read. Either way, I generally play almost the same as you Adam; Where if I just enjoy playing, I score high, and if I try to beat a previous score, I miss a note and go crazy in frustration haha.
Man... that extra scoring trick thing sounds interesting!! I gotsta try that.
There's one song that's driving me crazy with the OD pattern, and that's Learn to Fly ): I can FC it, but everytime I move OD's around, the score gets worse n' worse!

I don't think the scroll speed is any faster - it just seems faster because your chart is thinner. If you actually look at the spacing of the notes, it's no different. But yep, it does *seem* faster, and I also sometimes catch things online that I don't catch in solo tour. I think this is more the relaxation factor of knowing you're not playing for your own personal score, though - at least for me.
There are OD pattern discussion threads at ScoreHero, dunno if anyone's looking at Learn To Fly yet. My impression is that there's nothing much to be gained on that song by delaying OD - it doesn't change tempo enough - but I might be wrong, I'm not great on the song anyway (I always break combo at the more complex fills).

one, you need to be logged in when you play.
two, you have to play in solo tour mode, not quickplay.
three, if you're on 360, this seems to just happen sometimes anyway. either the score doesn't show up or it takes a long time (like, hours or days).
one of the few areas PS3 people have it better than 360 people. never seen a problem with the PS3 leaderboards. They update about 10 minutes after you finish the song.

so I got Outside up to four stars (I still either suck at that song or my kit sucks somehow, can't tell which) and - yes, I was lying like a bastard when I said I'd never play DFTR again - got DFTR up to four stars with a nice 70k score upgrade. whee! i was playing ultra-safe and storing my overdrive for the fill section *really* early so I missed out on a ton of notes and also wasted a lot of potential overdrive, so there's another 30-40k in that next time I'm dumb enough to play it. also got a score upgrade on I Get By while I was just playing for fun, which is nice.

Sorry dude, I was experimenting with that squeeze effect lol >.< I was goin' my merry way getting just that extra bass note in, then I tried I Think I'm Paranoid and just flat out missed 2-3 normal cymbal hits. Suffice to say, I just went on to play some other songs for fun hehe.
Wanny1, I tried to squeeze Sabotage, but I failed XD I stopped after :(
Ohh, I figured out that Learn To Fly OD pattern too! You just OD normally for the first 3, then on the last OD near the tail-end of the song, you skip one to connect that last set of white notes. That last OD has you at 3/4 of the bar filled, if that helps any.
And I put in another 6k into DFTR! It's my favorite song!

really I don't care about #1s, I just felt a bit stupid having a FC on ITIP and not even being in the top 50 =) it's nice to try and be top 50 on most songs.

And seriously I can't believe you have 10730000 points. How is that possible? I'm having a ****ing HARD time to get more than 9087000 pts :P

wow, nice job. I'm aiming for that one some time soon. and Reaper.
I only have a few four stars left now (WGFA, Reaper, D.O.A., Timmy, Outside is all, I think) and one three star (RTTH). I'd like to get that up to all fives and a four on RTTH. Just don't think I can five RTTH on the RB pads, I can't roll that fast on plastic pads. I could probably do it on the DM kit.
I five starred....Orange Crush (*hides face in embarrassment*). I still suck at the bits where it uses a blue pad instead of an open hi-hat. It just doesn't *feel* right to me. I can play them in practice mode at 90% but then as soon as I kick it up to 100% and hear the song, I lose it. Maybe I should just play it with the TV on mute and a metronome set at the right speed.
also got my D.O.A. over 100k, despite missing the first three overdrive note sequences, heh. I think I can five star this one quite soon.

today I modded my drums with mouse mats and mounting tape - not because I thought it'd make 'em work any better, just for noise reduction purposes. Definitely reduces the noise. Don't think it made any difference to functionality, though.
Upgraded Celebrity Skin to gold stars (yay). Could still do better though. It's kind of annoying when you get all the rolls in that song but miss a few of the silly little snare -> cymbal triplets, sigh.
Score upgrade on Reaper, over 200k now. Nearly got to five stars. Can probably get it soon.
Score upgrade on The Hand That Feeds, using a silly left-left-right technique for the triplets. If I alternate hands properly, I sometimes lose the bass - for some reason I can play repeating triplets that *start* with a bass beat a lot better than ones which *end* with a bass beat.
score upgrade on Flirtin' With Disaster. Missed almost all the instances of that one roll that comes up over and over again, but near-FC'ed the rest of the song.
Score upgrade on When You Were Young - thought I was going to get gold stars, but no. :( It was a good run, missed a few beats I usually nail at the end though.
20k score upgrade on GGHT. I made a complete hash of the 16th note section, but FC'ed the rest of the song. quite proud of that.
think that's all for today...oh, yeah, small score upgrades on Wave of Mutilation and Suffragette City (actually got most of the yellow-red-green bits today).
edit: oh yeah, I also managed to pass Tom Sawyer when I messing about in online quickplay to test the new pads. At that point I had them temporarily mounted with regular tape, and the tape was holding down the blue pad, which resulted in a yellow triggering almost every time I hit the blue. so I have no idea how I made it through the long sections where the blue is acting as the ride, but somehow I did =)

Score upgrade on Reaper
Adam, how much time do you feel you have to put in each day to maintain your Top 50 status? I know because I'm still climbing that if I skip a day, I automatically get pulled 200 or so spots. Have you been able to reach Top 25 at any point? ...have you ever been taking over but more than 2 spots or so up there?
You seem to be a pretty humble Expert player so I dig your feedback...there's a lot of egotistical RB drummers out there.

conner: i don't really care, I just play for fun (note: for me, score upgrades are fun), when I get bored or too busy I'll quit playing, drop like a stone, and adjust my sig accordingly :)
i'm more or less stuck at #28 at present, and yes, you do have to get quite a lot of points per day just to stand still. I've been around #28 for about three or four days now despite getting quite a lot of points upgrades each day.
I have about a 500,000 point cushion before I drop out of the top #50, last I checked. I guess that would last a couple of weeks if I just stopped playing. I'm just under 8.9m points at present. I remember not so long ago only the top 10 people had over 9m, now the top 25 do, I think.

It's always great to hear how you're improving scores and whatnot Adam! I forgot if I posted about my OD path for When You Were Young... so I'll just post away!
-First OD use normally
-Second OD you skip one fill (should be on the red/yellow followed by blue part)
-Rest of OD's use normally
Just be prepared for these funky triple blues notes where a fill would normally cover midway through the song. And it also enables you to do the red snare rolls instead of a fill, etc. It's not the best path, but it's not bad :)
I just started makin' a couple videos of some songs today too! When I re-watched 'em, I thought 'oh man do I look ******ed..' Oh well D:
If I find more good OD paths, I'll post 'em here!

Gah, I've been with a broken yellow pad forever, and when I reconnected my PS3 to the PSN, it only counted what I did in solo career, and didn't factor in the high scores I previously got in Quickplay. Guess I got a lot of work to do once my new drums come in.

const: thanks! not sure I can use your path as I miss one OD sequence in the song, IIRC; I usually miss the red -> blue -> green fills because I play too much bass. Bad habit from Drummania, where playing beats that aren't there doesn't count against you; when I'm playing a complex fill I tend to just hit bass on every beat all the way through it, because that way you're guaranteed to get all the bass beats that are actually *there*. Doesn't work in RB though :)

*Updated 'When You Were Young' to OD optimal path!
-First OD, skip 1 fill
-Second OD use normally
-Third OD, skip 2 fills
Note: This'll give you OD on the snare rolls, and eliminates the triple blue funky part. A good indicator for if you're using the OD correctly is to see if you have half the OD bar filled by the halfway point where there's no drumming. That's the part where you have to skip 2 fills.

Hey guys, just checking in to say hello.
I'm currently somewhere in the top 10 on the PS3 drum leaderboards. I'm pretty sure there are no other female drummers ahead of me. My only #1 is on "Train Kept a Rollin'" but I'm working on optimizing my overdrive paths so I can get some more.

nothing much today, just a score upgrade on Highway Star (actually managed to catch a few rolls, haha...still had some silly misses on easy sections though) and minor upgrade on Suffragette City.
had a run on Ballroom Blitz which would have been an upgrade but died on the goddamn bass at the end which I *swear* is on the wrong beat. Did the original drummer play it this odd way or did HMX screw up the chart? I don't know. I always end up playing it on exactly the wrong beat, which *doubly* kills your audience meter (as you lose some audience for missing the real beat, and then some more for hitting the wrong one). Eeeevil.

Hey Adam, I hope you don't mind me posting these OD paths here, as I'll stop if need be or if it's off-topic'ish. ... I'll post a couple right now anyways lol.
'Are You Gonna Be My Girl'
-First OD, skip 2 fills
-Second OD, skip 2 fills (I think)
-Rest of 'em you use normally
Note: Gist of this one is skipping fills on those large gaps early on in the song.
'The Hand That Feeds'
-First OD, skip 1 fill
-Rest you use normally
Note: This one has some white notes at the end of the song, I dunno how to connect that yet ); It's one of those unison bonus white note things.

nice day today. upgraded Wave Of Mutilation to gold stars: tricky song to gold star! I got everything except that tricky red / blue / bass pattern near the end, and just barely got gold stars at 102k. I might learn that section in practice mode and go for an FC, but the song has lots of finicky little sections that are easy to miss, so could be frustrating. tip for decent score on this song: make *sure* you get the OD activation notes at the end of the tricky red / blue / bass pattern, even if you mess that bit itself up. if you miss that OD activation section you can lose 5-10k points, I think.
solid score upgrades on Tom Sawyer and WGFA. I'm starting to feel like I'm *playing* WGFA rather than surviving it now. :) I still have to cheat through the 'false ending' by stocking up OD though, sigh.
20k score upgrade on Outside. Again, feeling less exasperated with this song. I think I have a problem just positioning my sticks in the right place, though; I often feel I have the timing perfect but I break combo and it feels like I'm hitting pad rim or something. Need to play while looking at my hands and figure out what's going on.
Over 8.9m career score now, still stuck at #28. :)

constble, I'm just curious - what's been your experience with the RB hardware? Do you use a stock kit or have you modded yours at all? Have you had any hardware failures, had to return your kit?
sskitzzo has all kinds of trouble with his, he's on like his sixth set. Don't know about wanny1. My bass pedal snapped (repaired with random bits of metal) but my pads have been fine, I did the mousemat mod on them but purely for noise reduction, it doesn't affect hit registration.

First, I loved playing Outside, and had the beat almost down perfectly! Now, I play it and hate it 'cus I'm always missing this one bass note, and if I concentrate harder, it just deteriorates from there. Alas, I'm not playing it again... or at least for a while hehe.
constble, I'm just curious - what's been your experience with the RB hardware? Do you use a stock kit or have you modded yours at all? Have you had any hardware failures, had to return your kit?
Surprisingly, this is still my first kit from when I first bought it. My red pad makes horrible rattling-like sounds when you hit it, but responds perfectly! I snapped the pedal though, and got a replacement one. Ever since then, the pedal's been working fine, and not a single crack! Feels like it's thicker plastic. It'd be great to use a real pedal though ):
It's unmodded n' all. My guitar was all gimpy though, so at least 2/3 of the peripherals worked out of box!
One more OD path, almost optimal for Learn To Fly~
-First OD, skip 1 fill
-Second OD, use normally
-Third OD, skip 1 fill
-Fourth OD, use normally
Note: The third OD skip is for that funky red/yellow roll with bass notes n' all. Really fun n' awesome part might I add!

Try this OD for Welcome Home if you haven't :)
-First OD, skip 2 fills
-Second OD, use normally
-I can't remember which OD, maybe it's the fourth, you skip 1 fill in order to use it at the start of the yellow/red hi-hat/snare part of the song.
-Rest you use normally!
Note: I skipped the first 2 fills since the beginning is kinda bare with notes.
Hope that helps somewhat!

okay, so good news, it wasn't the pad :)
took the mousemat off to test. bingo, 190k on Ballroom Blitz. re-attached the mousemat with plain double-sided scotch tape, 210k and gold stars :)
it was the mounting tape I was using to attach the mousemats before. it has an appreciable thickness and that was messing with the contact. plain ol' scotch tape works better.
so now I have another gold star song and I'm over 9m. yaaay.
btw, the 20k difference from plain pad to mousemat isn't down to the mousemat. I just played better on the last attempt.
