My strum bar broke last night and now the down strum (up strum for lefties) won't work anymore. I can even feel it, the cushioning of the strum bar isn't there anymore for that section and it now makes a kind of click sound when I strum it. I'm out of warranty and even if I wasn't, I don't have a receipt. So is there anything I can do?
Will EA/HMX fix it for me or do I have to do it myself?

Sounds like it just wore out from over use.
I wouldn't expect any love from HMX and I wouldn't suggest fixing it yourself.
Time to find a new one in my opinion... sorry.

Yeah it wore out from use...:(
Why wouldn't you suggest fixing it?

You might damage it further. Just because I wouldn't suggest it doesn't mean you can't.
You might be incredibly skilled at fixing electronics or plastic guitars; unfortunately I have no way of knowing if you are or aren't. I know I'm not per se so I try to approach my advice to others in that fashion.
Good Luck - let us know how it turns out?

Check out some of the strum fixes like the MaxAxxe or ByteArts strum replacements.
Look over their pages and see if it is something you would be confortable with

I have actually broke two stratocasters (me and my stepson) have resigned to using the 2 Guitar hero guitars that i have, but I very much prefer the strat. Has any one used any of these guys and if so how is their performance?

Try opening it up and see what may have broken. You might be able to rig something up internally to get you back to rockin' out (eg... with rubber bands, glue, etc). :)

There are two different replacement strum bars. ByteArts, and MaxxAxe both make them. Look them up, and order yourself one if you don't mind opening up the guitar yourself.
