Apologies in advance if there is already a thread on this, I searched a bit and didn't see anything (Google turned up nothing either, which I thought odd).
Anyways, For a few months now I have had problems with the sound in Rock Band 2. For no apparent reason while I am playing (guitar), the sound will change pitch, or the sound will drop out altogether. Sometimes for a couple of notes, and sometimes for a whole section. It didn't always happen, and it has been getting worse over time.
The first song I noticed it on was Critical Acclaim by Avenged Sevenfold, and then I lost sound on the entire solo in Pick Me Up by Dinosaur Jr. The rest of the song is completely fine, and then the solo starts and the sound just drops out. It makes no sense to me. I thought maybe it was a tv or surround sound problem, but I have tried it on multiple tv's (with an hdmi cable and with the regular A/V cable), and it's the same. I even deleted the song from my XBox 360 hard drive and then re-downloaded it thinking maybe the data was corrupted. But it's still the same.
Last week I thought maybe it was the disc just getting worn out from overuse, so I bought the game again (brand new). I thought that would fix the problem for sure, but nope, nothing's changed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm really at a loss right now.

I've had the same problem recently with my dlc. It happens in both RB2 and TB:RB. I think it has something to do with the patch because it hasn't done this before it, BUT I have no idea.
Sorry that didn't help at all; I just share your pain.

From the main menu, can you go into the Audio options and see if Dolby Digital is set?
You may want to make sure that is off/unchecked if you are not using DD. I know it can make things sound weird since it does a bit of extra processing with certain tracks.

I don't mess with the Audio options, and I never have. But maybe my brother did? Because I never do I didn't really think to check that. I will and get back to you. Thanks for the idea.

Okay, just to tie this off, I did manage to figure out the problem. I said originally that I had tried both an HDMI and an A/V cable on multiple TV's. It turns out that there must be some sort of problem with both of the ones I am using (even though I have not experienced problems with any other games). I switched the HDMI cables I was using for my PS3 and plugged it into the 360, and voila, no problems. So I really still have no idea why I was having problems, but I guess I don't need to worry about it again for right now. Just what are the odds of both cables giving out at the same time?
