God of War III discussion

With the March 16th release date almost here, I was wondering if anyone here was planning on playing the last chapter of the trilogy.

I know I am, my brother paid it off in full and we're going to pick it up right after work that day. I imagine I'll beat the game in a weekend, just like I did GoW II, which is fine by me, I'm sure I'll need a couple days off from FF XIII by then.

So who else is pumped to gut Zeus like a salmon?

I played the demo. Was I not supposed to kill the villagers too? Cause once the killi'n started I laid waste to everything.

Of course you can kill the villagers too. If it moves, cut it down.

That's one of the best things about GoW, there's no hokey morality system. Every option is burn down the orphanage. Anyone gets in your way, gut them.

You get 3 like a week after we do. Bummer about the Collection though, it's nice playing those games in HD. Whoever coded those ports did a great job.

I enjoy them more than hearing Kratos yell-speak for even a minute cutscene. It's just like that boring movie 300, (thankfully) without the slow-motion shots stretching forty minutes into two hours.

They're 1 for 1, to me. Ico was kinda meh, but Shadow of the Colossus was pretty damn awesome. Makes me curious what kind of cool new things they can deliver for this generation.

They're 1 for 1, to me. Ico was kinda meh, but Shadow of the Colossus was pretty damn awesome. Makes me curious what kind of cool new things they can deliver for this generation.

Guess you weren't blessed with a baby that sits quietly on your lap while you play video games, huh? Instrument controllers are out, but holding a regular PS3 controller is something easily combined with letting a little one fall asleep in your lap. I've been getting in more game time in the past couple of weeks than I have in a long time. :D

Comparing two entirely different genres against one another is an incredibly weak way to make a point.

If you had compared GoW to Bayonetta, DMC or Ninja Gaiden, I'd be more inclined to value your opinion.

I wouldn't even even try and compare the games. They're both great games, but it's apples to oranges.

As far as the characters themselves, I'll take Kratos' scream-talk over Snake's "I eat gravel for breakfast" voice waxing philosophical.

GoW2 was an improvement in every way. More bosses, more combos, better magic and much cooler QTEs.

GoW3 will have levels that change on the fly. Going from a standing position fighting, a titan moves its body and then you're climbing a wall and still fighting the same enemies as before, just in a different way. I imagine this game will be as seamless in transition as Uncharted 2 was.

While yeah, I did go off into a pointless tangent about the gameplay, you'll see my main reply was to another cat about the badassery of Kratos. It's hard to like a badass who won't stop *****ing about Athena not keeping her promise.

That and he's virtually unchanged for three, going on four games now. "THE GODS NEVER HONOR THEIR PROMI-" yeah yeah, shut the hell up and climb, it's not like you got the character depth to do anything else, anyways.

Anywho, I'll wait to see if the giant moving levels offer anything new, or at least different. Even if it's Uncharted 2 style, occasionally and perfectly done, then cool beans. If all it does is make me do the annoying "climb/cling" mode and sideswipe enemies, count me out.

It looks pretty good, but yeah more of the same. So if you liked the first 2 this should be a blast.

A local toy chain has an offer where if you preorder the game, you get a 'special edition' for the price of the regular game. I've inquired if this 'special edition' is the Ultimate Trilogy Edition, which includes The GoW Collection in Europe. If so, I'll definitely be picking it up, because three games for the price of one is a steal.

hehe, yea i remember loooong nights playing Phantasy Star Online with controller in one hand, baby in lap, and a well balanced keyboard on the knee. My problem was that we had another kid within the same year and that was all she wrote.

first one i remember seeing them in was conan (apart from strip poker on the amiga back in the day)

i think that once one developer gets away with it the rest figure they can too, and there will always be a market for boobies.

Also the PS rep told us to stop filming the screen directly so I probably have to chop up my playthrough of the 1st lvl up to when I died over and over.

First time I've ever played GOW in general though- I found the timing of the double jump was weird >_>

To me, that's a great thing. I feel that GOW does action better than any franchise out there right now. In fact, I think it may even be the best playing action/adventure game of all time.

I can't wait to see and use the new combos and weapons.

They confirm that he is a voice in the game but they don't all out say that he voices Hercules but it's pretty implied. Hercules is confirmed to be in the game so it's not a stretch.

Sony has really put the pressure on 2010 with both Heavy Rain and God of War III hitting the shelves this early in the year. I'm pumped for this game, maybe even more than I am for FF13.

I dunno either. It seems like all the big exclusives for both camps are already out there, with Mass Effect 2 making a killing.

I guess Alan Wake could be excellent, but I just don't know all that much about it.

And I don't even think there is going to be another AAA ps3 exclusive this year, everything else (for the most part) will be multiplat.

Several factors. I got a sweet $200 extra from work because they screwed up my checking the last time I worked there, and Walmart doesn't sell 64gb iPod Touches, or at least mine didn't.

The good of Gow3: very pretty, levels did not have slowdown EVER, QTEs are not as annoying, uh...hmm, keeps you interested for one playthrough at least.

The bad: same old song and dance, the moving levels literally offer nothing new (because we all liked climbing combat), whoever plays Kratos has somehow gotten worse at acting (but thumbs up to a few other voiceovers like Hephastus), camera is still too restrictive and occasionally awkward, and the overall game is way too short.

I love the fixed camera. Games like Darksiders were nigh unplayable due to the free camera. That all boils down to preference though.

And the climbing combat has improved, you can execute a combo now while moving up or down on the wall, but the hanging combat is still meh.
