Drum Fills Question

I've noticed on all the drum fills the cymbal crash is always on the first beat going back into the rock beat after the fill section. Is this standard and almost always the case how fills are written?

I guess so. I'm no drummer but it sounds better than just doing an insane random drum roll then going straight back to the song. I just blends in better when you finish it off with the crash

Not always. In "Kickstart My Heart", the crash comes on the upbeat of 4. But in most cases, yes, the crash at the end of a drum fill occurs on the 1 of the next measure.
