"Blade Runner" and "Gladiator" director Ridley Scott turned heads in the film and board game worlds alike in 2008 when he agreed to step up and direct a "Monopoly" movie. Executive producer and Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner later explained to MTV's Brian Jacks that the film would tackle the hot-button topic of real-world financial crises, but the project has remained in development behind closed doors. In a new update, Goldner revealed that "Monopoly" is still on track with its release date tentatively set for 2012 or beyond.

When one does play Clue, there is some semblance of story. With Monopoly, not so much. Who are the characters going to be? A thimble, a top hot and an old-timey race car?

Seems like Hasbro and Mtv have been discussing a lot of movies that... probably won't work very well. There's some talk of a Magic the Gathering movie on the MTGS forums.

But I'll admit, you could at least sorta make a movie off of MTG. Monopoly... I guess it would be a Rockefeller Capitalism type movie? With the protagonist going from being dirt poor to being rich?
