So i just got Rock Band (PS3) and i downloaded a bunch of songs, buddy holly, i fought the law, the metallica pack etc etc.

Downloaded them from the US store, using my US PSN name on my ASIAN PS3.

Since Rock Band is region free and works fine on my machine, i assume the DLC would work fine too.

So i install the 14 dollars worth of DLC, and i try to play them in the game.

The song starts loading, and halfway through the loading screen, it tells me:

"the song data you were accessing has become unavailable and the game cannot proceed without it. your game session has restarted"

??????????

All the songs i downloaded are in the menu and i can HEAR the song previews.

I tried accessing the songs via the drums, guitar and controller, but still nothing. Same error message.

How do i get my DLC to play??????

Get an American Ps3.

Haha, i dunno man. Good luck though it would suck to have that much DLC wasted.

Is this the first DLC you've bought and installed?

One thing you can try--though it's a pain--is to delete the Rock Band file from the Game Data Utility folder on your PS3, go to the PS Store and re-download the DLC. Then reboot the machine, start up Rock Band, exit it, and install the DLC.

I have no idea if this will work, but it seems like the best way to get the system to be "clean" at the time you install the DLC.

Ever get the feeling you should've waited for a local release and then just grabbed Rock Band for the 360? What with the compatibility issues, not being able to talk online, and Sony's somewhat indifference, the 360 version is arguably the premier version of Rock Band to own.

I can only imagine how bad you feel right now, since I sometimes feel this way, and that's without having blown $14 on DLC that doesn't work.

First thing I'd try is playing the game while logged in to that US PSN account you have setup (if you're not). Second thing is redownloading the tracks, if possible. Following that, a rather frustrating email sent Sony's way... for the good that it'll do.

Hm.

Howzabout we stay away from prompting console wars, here?

I'm perfectly happy with my PS3 version, even lacking voice chat. The issues with the patch have me more annoyed with Activision than Sony, and, of course, the wireless Strat I wouldn't trade for anything.

I don't think he's trying to provoke a console war. He does bring up a valid point , however. Wireless controller that requires you to replace batteries over voice chat? No thank you. To each his own though.

I've had to replace batteries...hm...not at all since throwing out the crap batteries that came with the guitar on Launch day and putting in some real batteries, and I typically play RB 3-4 hours a day.

Would I rather have voice chat than not have voice chat? Of course.

But with the size of my TV, I'm much happier to have wireless, especially when I have a group of people in my living room. Voice chat only comes into question when I play online.

@Ventura, if you were to say that the 360 version of GHIII is the premier version, I wouldn't argue at all. The PS3 version is sloppily made, with very little effort made to make sure the Les Paul was even compatible with GHIII, much less Rock Band.

The difference here, of course, is that I'm not slagging off the other version of Rock Band, I'm slagging off the version I have. Being a PS3 owner, I'm meant to have a go at the 360 users and their version, right?

See, I have both a PS3 and a 360, so I kinda enjoy being able to make comments (both positive and negative) about both consoles.

I actually didn't purchase my PS3 all that long ago, and certainly didn't own it at the time GH3 was released. As such, I ended up picking it up for the Wii (yeah, I've got one of them too).

That said, I haven't heard much good stuff about GH3 for the PS3 atall.

DesiredFx: yup. first DLC. i got the game, applied the game update (patch), then downloaded DLC. the DLC wouldnt play.

so i deleted the patch and the game data thing (along with all the DLC).

so now my rock band is PRE-patch.

then i redownloaded buddy holly and installed it and guess what, it works now! and i assume the other songs should work too.

now all i have to do is redownload everything else.

of course, so far, the DLC seems to work without the new 1.10 patch or whatever number it is.

but i'm afraid if i redownload and reinstall all the songs on my PRE-patched rock band, and if i update it to 1.10 or whatever, the DLC might not work again!

so in conclusion,

US rock band with US DLC on an ASIAN PS3, without the patch = WORKS

gonna see what happens if i update my rock band with the DLC already on there.

hope it can still play!

yet another reason Ps3 fails in comparison to the Xnox 360

this is happening to my xbox 360 version as well, should i try the same thing with deleting the file and restarting?

Yes because having the option of region free game play is so much worse than not having the option at all.

At least Sony is attempting to break down the traditional geographical barriers.

Beside if you read above, his game glitched and was fixed by "reinstalling".

Can we please keep the trolling to a minimum though? Thanks.

Yeah, we play mixed regions at my work on 360 quite a bit so...

This seems to be the most "trollish" post in the thread by far.

For folks that see this problem, removing all traces of RB from your system and starting from scratch (redownload etc.) seems to fix it.

I've never seen this happen in the middle of the song. I've only seen it happen when I try to load up an unfinished song on my test kit cause I don't want to wait for audio to give me the ok to test it. At least you got them working now so I'm happy and you're happy so we're all happy.

FreeFall, do you also have a foreign 360?

does this mean that everytime you dl new dlc you have to unpatch your rock band? that'd suck :(

nope. havent had to delete/reinstall stuff after that.

any new DLC i download since the 'fix' (deleting, downloading DLC, THEN patching); works fine.

btw, just to reiterate, this all happened on the PS3 version.

Sounds like the downloads were simply corrupted somehow the first time. I don't think this has anything to do with patches. My guess would be that not all the data was downloaded even though the PS3 thought it all was. So when Rock Band tried playing the downloaded songs the data wasn't quite all there and it ran into a problem. That seems like the only reasonable explanation I can think of.

The post was addressing multiple posts with all the different answers so that's where the trolling comment came from.

Looking here we can see that this is not the case with all XBOX 360 games:
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-00-3-xbox360_compatibility_guide-49-en.html. I think Play Asia is fairly reliable as they are one of the major importers that people deal with. It's a YMMV situation like the PS3 wireless situation where Sony does not enfore any sort of standard (hence the dongles for GHIII and Rock Band) but the XBOX 360 does (except in reverse).

I will say for the record that I only own a PS3 but I will likely soon own a 360 as well. I am not a blind fanboy. I was simply pointing out the absolute ridiculousness of the argument that was being made for the 360 version.

but usually though, if you do download a corrupted DLC (or game demo etc etc), it usually says something during the install process, no? like the file is corrupt or something. and it wont let you install it.

this happened to me once when i tried installing a corrupted 'the darkness' demo download.

in my case, all my rock band DLC installed fine (onto my patched, DLC free rock band). you could see the songs listed in the menu, you can even hear the song previews, but once you try loading them up, it kicked me back out to the main menu giving me that song data could not be accessed message.

the only way i could get the songs to work was to delete the patch, download and install the songs onto a virgin rock band, AND THEN upgrade with the 1.10 patch.

the songs played fine after that and any DLC i download after doing all that, worked fine too.
