Another bad dongle! Bought RB for Wii, christmas '08. Dongle died right away. Had to ship the whole shebang back and get a replacement. Played RB once or twice a month for the past year. Last weekend tried to play for the first time since new years eve……and had a dead dongle.

With the amount of complaints here and around the web, these things are OBVIOUSLY faulty products, and the fact that replacements aren't available for purchase is a DISGRACE. I will certainly not be buying any RB-branded hardware anytime in the future. What I want to know is WHY they ever used a stupid dongle setup like this in the first place? The GH wii method of plugging a controller into the guitar is MUCH more sensible! (and if a GH guitar would work with RB1, I'd just use that.....but it doesn't!)

In any case, I what I was wondering is if any third party out there makes a guitar that is compatible with ALL RB and GH games on the wii. I would buy it in a heartbeat! Any info much appreciated.

And secondly, I would think that with a widespread problem like this, some clever engineering student out there would have devised a hack to solve it. Like a way to hack the RB guitar to work with a standard usb bluetooth transmitter/receiver. Or at least test the circuit and figure out exactly what goes bad in the dongles and have a webpage describing how to repair it (replace a blown resistor or whatever). If anybody knows of any hacks/repair info, please pass it along. Thanks!

(btw, yes I did open up the dongle and wiggle the wires, etc just in case something had come loose....but no, it's dead. Blue light flashes for a fraction of second when first plugged in, and then that's it)

There are other troubleshooting steps that have helped many users in the past.
1. Try using a powered USB hub. This has helped many users (especially PS3 slim users).
2. Try eliminating wireless interference by either:
a. Using an extension for the USB dongle to move it closer to the instruments.
b. Moving other wireless devices (routers, phones, etc.).

I don't have any GH controllers but I would guess it will add to the weight having the wii remote attached and it will add another cost of needing additional wii remotes if one is using a whole band setup. Our dongles have been fine so far. Just needing new batteries and resync sometimes when it does not appear to be working right. dovanon has some nice tips.
