Newcomers are going to show up to the forums and think, "Wow, these topics all suck, I'm outta here!"

People actually look at the ratings?

monkeyfish
03-05-2010, 08:45 PM
I don't look at them primarily, but it was kinda hard not to notice almost every thread being rated.

This is why we can't have nice things...

*1 stars this thread*

This reminds me of when we had tags, albeit a lot less annoying. I actually think it's very pretty in a minimalist kind of way.

I didn't know what this thread was talking about, until I actually looked the thread ratings. :o

Early Warning Rating Technology or EWRT. E-WaRT as it’s nicknamed can tell what threads you’ll like and which ones you find to be rubbish.

I one-starred Silver on Easy Drums.

Doesn't work. I don't like the Official NBA Discussion, 5-starred, and I like the Real Guitar Section, 1-starred.

when it becomes it one star it might have the glitch that prevents anyone from rating it, luckily one of my threads which had it is now a healthy 2 star thread.

Tags weren't annoying, they were fun.

Then Bood got banned for writing Renrock eats boogers. Woooow.

I got ninja'd by over an hour.

Sadly, I missed the days of tags, so I don't really know what I'm missing out on.

Tags were amazing.

I don't know what they were expecting when they first added them. Tag abuse was inevitable, just like with literally every other forum that has them. Those guys still seem to get by, somehow...

I thought you meant 1-starring every rock band song.

Soja

Tags were short descriptions that were supposed to be like bookmarks for the search engine. Basically, if you added the tag "dlc" to a thread about DLC, you could use the search function to find all threads that were tagged with "dlc."

That was the theory, anyhow.

In reality, it was the ultimate vehicle for forum sniping. At least to other regular users, there was complete anonymity, so it was mostly used for sneering one- or two-worders. There must have been no less than 400 threads tagged with "whaaaaaambulance."

Those were some fantastic times. There were occasions when I just burst out laughing, incapacitated for minutes on end, for some of the tags people put. It was truly a contest among the sarcastic wits of the community.

But it was removed. :( Apples giveth, and Apples taketh away.

Yeah... What's up with the "you already voted on this thread" crap? It's not the 1st time this has happened to me. :(

Tags were funny, but also annoying. It was really annoying to see a tag like, "[][][][][][][][][][]<=look at mah blockzzz"

monkeyfish
03-06-2010, 10:38 AM
I preferred embedding videos, myself. Tags were fun and all but like Sarotar above says, it was also used for stupidity that wasn't even funny. It was sort of a little version of /b/ within the forums.

Embedding videos was cool. I wasn't a member at the time, so I never saw it being abused.

Tags were a good time. I probably went around tagging all the Wii issue threads "Nintendo Hates Gamers". But really, only mods should be able to tag, so that tagging is used for its intended use: to make searching easier and better.

we should fix the bad thread problem and then the rest will be gravy.

An auto-delete function would be gravy.

monkeyfish

Wasn't there a system in place that made it a five-vote minimum until a thread was given an average rating?

afterstasis
03-06-2010, 01:37 PM
An auto-delete function would be gravy.

at least an auto-ignore would be cool, like any thread that has "muse" or "football" or "leather daddy" in the title simply wouldn't show up on my screen.

afterstasis
03-06-2010, 01:43 PM
it would also be nifty if any threads made about "ru paul" or "dinner rolls" could get auto-stickied on my screen.
