What's the strangest or most unexpected song you've heard in a public location? I ask this after two recent occurences of this:

First, today I was sitting in an establishment that serves gourmet fries/dipping sauces, and as soon as I sat down to begin eating, I heard "My Girls" from Animal Collective come in over the speaker. I never expected to hear that anywhere out in public.

Second, I was sitting in a cafeteria at my college, and I heard this speedy, thrash-like metal song(don't know the name) over the speaker. Most of the time, this cafeteria mostly plays top-40 hits over the speaker, so someone was obviously messing around.

Some song By Here Comes the Kraken. Where? At school during the morning announcements. They tried to give every day of the week it's own theme. That particular day was Heavy Metal Monday.
Needless to say, themed days were a failure.

haha, i used to manage the processing department of a goodwill store and had control of the radio...

my run was fairly brief, but i played everything from lightning bolt to terry riley to burzum to daniel johnston and so on during those years, oftentimes met with complaints from employees and customers alike.

My high school did that for about a semester, but they got rid of morning announcements soon after. I remember hearing "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath, "Do it Again" by Steely Dan, a song from Matisyahu, a song from the Beastie Boys before they went hip-hop, and countless other things I can't remember off the top of my head.

I'd love to see this.

A while ago, I went into the Subway near my college and a completely uncensored version of DWTS was being played over the loud speaker
What made it even better was that some of the staff were singing it

I once got Rickrolled at a supermarket around Halloween. Does that count?
(I mean this as in Never Gonna Give You Up randomly started playing on the music system)

Once I was at a summer camp and one day we were hiking up a mountain. Someone was carrying a Radio and after about 3 hours of hiking it started playing the Rick Roll Song.
I got Rick Rolled. Miles away from Civilization. On a Mountain.

I was at a Buffalo Wild Wings and heard a Porcupine Tree song. I don't remember which song, but it really surprised me.

The syndicated morning show on one of my mother's syndicated "soft rock" stations used the intro from I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas- an artist I'm pretty sure would never recieve airplay on that station EVER. My mother never liked that morning show, and quickly went for the dial.

I heard a ten year old girl singing "My Humps" in Target once. That was pretty strange.

There's a Kroger by my house that is constantly ROCKIN' that mother trucker! My GF and I noticed it after like the third time going there. Boston, Bowie, The Who and CCR just to name a few off the top of my head.

You know, Rick Astley was popular in the 80's before the whole "Rickroll" crap came about.

not exactly public place, just odd for public media imo. CNN and the weather channel have been playing better music than mtv/vh1 here lately. I heard temple of the dog - hungerstrike, as well as a few other good songs on cnn a few times, and the weather channel suprised me today with Sublime - what I got, just the instrumental version, but still cool.

My school allows students to play stuff in the school before school starts, you just have to wait your turn. I'll be old enough to do so in a year, and I plan on playing Sunn O)))

I was at my school on a Saturday, sorta nearing night, helping out the clubs I'm in at the annual school festival.
So I was walking through the hallways, completely empty. Only a few lights were on, so it fairly dark. I was fine with that until our school's PA system suddenly crackled, and 50s music began to play.
Then, I swear, I had a moment of Bioshock-induced panic.

I always remember scratching my head when I heard "Regulate" by Warren G and Nate Dogg playing in a Kroger grocery store.

Main Drags "Jagged Gorgeous Winter" coming on while waiting in line at an Arby's was pretty cool and unique at the time too since I'd only heard them in Rock Band before. (and yeah, of course I yelled "Hey!")

At a Wendy's in Japan, every time I'd go there they'd always be playing nothing but gangsta rap. Uncensored, too. But that wasn't the only odd thing. Even with that music, the only people who seemed to frequent that particular restaurant were middle aged to elderly Japanese business men all dressed in suits. It was quite a surreal situation.

I was at a car dealership waiting for for my parents to finish up all the paperwork for the new car, and I heard the song 2112 - Rush. The whole song. Not just the Overture and Temples of Syrinx, the whole song.

And another time I was with my dad driving my Grandma to the store and the song F*king Hostile - Pantera came on the radio. My grandma actually enjoyed and told my dad not to change it.
