Sorry in advance if there is already a thread. I had a quick search and couldn't find anything.

Basically this is a game coming out in Fall 2010, which includes a REAL GUITAR that is used not only to play the game, but also can be plugged in and used with an amp and played normally. I'm already guessing that the guitar quality outside of the game will be lacklustre, and no set list of songs for the game has been announced yet. Still, I think it will be pretty awesome to play along with songs on a real guitar. I play RB guitar pretty awesomely and real guitar pretty terribly, so it will be interesting to see how I get on with this game.

Thoughts/opinions?

poinion: just buy a real guitar and learn to play.

Seems like a cool idea, but it sounds somewhat difficult.

You still have a horizontal line of colored buttons along the bottom of the screen indicating which string to play, but numbers falling down the screen will indicate which fret your fingers should be on.

This is probably just a flashy way to try and learn a difficult subject matter like watching Dora the Explorer and thinking you now know Spanish. Remember we're living in the ADD age.

Thread title should have been "Power Gig: Rise (and fall!) of the Six String Game". This is going to be way too complicated for most people to bother with, only the most hardcore are going to play it, and I am not at all sure a game like this can support itself with that small number of players.

That guitar looks like a piece of sh*t anyway.

Well, it IS made by First Act.

I saw this earlier and it reminded me of another game idea from 2ish years ago.

I still don't see a "real guitar simulator" game out there doing well, or doing anything for that matter.

We don't want to play real guitar, we want to play our games!

Precisely!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has even seen those, I kinda want to buy one and smash it, just for kicks.

I won a few craptastic Peavey guitars that were modded into PS2 wireless guitars, finally took those to the garbage and smashed them to bits.

They didn't hold up very well!

More on this over at Engadget:

http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/09/seven45-studios-talks-power-gig-details-we-go-hands-on-with-its/

We also learned that existing Rock Band and Guitar Hero guitars will work with the Power Gig titles, and Seven45's guitars will work with existing music band games -- not bad!

Finally, we were able to glean that the band bundle would sell for "about the same amount" as bundles already on shelves. They understand that they're playing the underdog role here, and they have no intentions of pricing themselves out of the market.

You can debate the actual appeal of the game, but if they actually pull off instrument compatibility and competitive pricing, it will at least get people to give them a try.

the only way I would consider giving this game a chance is if I can buy the disk and use my instruments that I already own to play it. But the thought of tuning up to play "rock band" makes me cringe, on the other hand, I'd have a tuner on my 360.

According to Engadget quote, you can. Of course, there's a long history of developers not following through on early promises.

Wasn't a game similar to this announced a few years ago around the time RB1 came out?

Guitar Rising, yes. It made a brief appearance and then...vanished.

I don't really see this as as serious competitor for GH/RB. This will appeal more to the "I want to learn how to play realtar, but still want it to be fun" kinda crowd, while GH/RB players are more the "I don't want to spend the massive amount of time to learn realtar, but just want to play a game that gives me the same fun feeling".

Two totally different approaches, both perfectly valid. And yes, I realize those aren't black & white and there's some overlap between the two.

I play real guitar, so I think it would be somewhat easier. In my opinion i don't think people will be able to go to the right frets quick enough to get the notes in the game, if there using all 22 frets.

Have you ever seen the First Act customs they make for artists, mainly Matt Pike's?

Have you ever seen the First Act pieces of utter dog crap guitars they sell at Walmart? Yeah, these will be a lot closer to those, especially if they're claiming that the price of the bundle will be equivalent (or close) to the price of the RB/GH bundles.

Finally, a game for people who still "don't get" Rock Band or Guitar Hero...

I'm disappointed that there's no Wii version. Also, Disney was working on their own "realtar" music game about a year ago, but it too vanished. I just don't see this game being very fun. Instead, it will be a convoluted mess. If you want to learn to play real guitar, pick up a guitar and go get some lessons.

I'm hoping (really really hoping) that this game will a nice midpoint between playing a game and playing real guitar. I mean, real guitar takes a lot of effort and stuff, whereas RB is just a relaxing button presser. This games success all depends on where they draw the line for difficulty. I mean, are we really gonna have to learn to shred the Painkiller solo on realtar?

Rock Revolution and Ultimate Band were fine examples of what happens when you join the party too late. If this game makes it to the market, I can't imagine anyone wanting to invest their time/money if they're already playing GH/RB.

This new controller is missing a whammy bar. Good luck getting top scores with it.

Well sure, if you try to play it on Expert, or whatever their top difficulty level is called. But unless you already know how to play the realtar, you're obviously not going to just jump right into that difficulty. I'm sure the lower levels will start off a lot easier than that. :)

First Act make really good, cheap electric guitars (I own 2), but I just can't get behind this idea at all. Dunno why.

why not change the game's name to "Guitar Tutor"?

I might pick it up when it shows up in a bargain bin and if it lets me use my guitar instead of that First Act POS.

If not, I'm perfectly happy with Rock Band. I don't need a video game scoring me on my REAL guitar playing, it would not make me feel too good...

Hey now, at least Judas Priest can actually perform their songs live.

It'd be like asking you to play the keyboard solo in Panic Attack on top of John Petrucci's guitar solo.

It also said it included a drum kit, which is supposed to work as an E kit,

I've never touched a real instrument in my, life, yet after several months of playing GH, and RB, I started considering trying out real guitar or bass. However I didn't want to put up the cash for a real instrument because I didn't trust myself to stick with it long enough to get any good. If this game is executed well it would surely keep me motivated with progression in the game and whatnot. I'll definitely keep an eye on this because if it doesn't suck (though it probably will considering it's called "Power Gig") then I'd like to pick it up (worst case scenario I give up on realtar but still get a decent music game and a guitar to mess around with but never learn that will double as a backup for GH and RB)

On a video the producers of the game say that its all master tracks. (So no covers like in Rock Revolution). Warner, EMI, etc will be supporting it. Different guitar models for the game (color, look) will be sold in stores. One of the bundles is the game with the guitar. Coming Fall 2010 for PS3 and 360. The guitar can function as a real guitar and be plugged into an amp and play real notes. The game WILL work with GH/RB controllers. And the guitar has a button that when you click it, it will have a strum bar button like the strum bar for Guitar Hero and Rock Band controllers. It can be pressed again to disable the strum bar so you can just hit the strings separately.

I'm actually excited about this game! If it has a create a rocker feature, then I'm getting it day one.

Yeah I am. :D
I love music games so this looks really promising for me. I'm gonna buy it. As long as it has a Rock Star Creator.

And I posted it on two threads because I wanted to spread the info too.

my thoughts: Harmonix have undoubtably heard about this by now, and will be making guitar controllers like this, same as guitar hero, however guitar hero will make it look like a joke by putting kings of leon stickers all over it.
harmonix did say they were going to help people learn the real instruments did they not? so i wouldn't be surprised if the outcome was something similar.. hope they do a bass guitar aswell though, as apparently this game will not...
i think its a brilliant idea, maybe it'll help me play on my real guitar which i wasted my money on a few years back hehe..

my opinion of the game: sounds like it'll be ok, i may have mis-read, but i think i read that it doesnt have multiplayer like the others?
In any case... I think its a good idea, hopefully have decent songs, not like gh5 with 98% mainstream turd, but it will ALL depend on the drum kit...
if the drum kit is no good, i will not be getting it... if the ion is compatible, which it should be, then i'll only get game and guitar.
