View Full Version : Muse and the Silversun Pickups
They were in Nashville, and I saw them, and it was AWESOME. I don't think that the Pickups got their due as people were just sort of "eh" or milling about, and it didn't help that those annoying beer salesmen were peddling their booze at a decibel just over the music. Still, it was very enjoyable.
Then MUSE came out about forty minutes later and I thought the roof of the arena was going to get blown off. They opened with Uprising and followed that with New Born, the latter of which was accompanied by so many lasers. I took some videos that I intended to post but my phone will not export them unless I can connect to a Bluetooth device on my computer (which it does not have). FFFU. Oh well, you guys don't really want to hear my awful singalongs. :P
They also played Supermassive Black Hole, Hysteria, Time Is Running Out, Plug In Baby, Feeling Good, Stockholm Syndrome, Unnatural Selection, and Knights of Cydonia as the finale, as well as a few other songs that I did not recognize (I do not have the Resistance album). But the crowd almost exploded the arena when that bass riff to Hysteria started out. It was amazing. The whole place looked like a dance hall at Supermassive.
They also did some jams in between songs and that included this awesome number where it was just Christopher and Dominic on a rotating building riser thingy playing a rhythm-section-only song. If it has a name, I, again, do not know.
I am slightly disappointed that they did not play Assassin, as that is one of my favorite Muse songs and I thought it fits the theme of the tour well, BUT I MUST SAY that, if you are in the way of this tour and have not yet decided to go, DO go. You must. It's a fantastic show and every song was just, in my opinion, so much better than any album recording.
Just bewarned: the shirts cost $32.

Such a shame about SSPU there. Such a good band, I bet they were awesome.
Sounds awesome. I wish I could go! :(
Yeah, I was worried that they were going to play nothing but stuff off of The Resistance, but I think it was mostly classics. :D
The shirts are really neat. Totally worth it, IMO. I got the one with the Resistance cover art on the front and a multicolored ring of letters on the back that spell out all the tour dates.
It was also very surreal to hear Well Thought Out Twinkles and Lazy Eye live yet almost pitch perfect. Brian said he was "so ****ing hungover," but his performance... it was laudable even by sober standards. That's talent.
Not to say that they were totally ignored. Despite all the apparent apathy from those around me (except my siblings and sister's friend, we're fans), they still had quite a large group of vocal fans. Panic Switch was a fun singalong.

I like the resistance and all but its not up to par compared to the previous albums. I saw a V commercial with muse in the background and got goosebumps.
I've got 8th row seats off to the left of the stage, so i'm gonna try to bring in my video camera. Gonna call the stadium ahead of time to make sure that's all cool.

The Resistance is a huge meh compared to the other albums. I like it, but it seems I'm skipping like 3 or 4 songs on it. Though, I do really love Exogenesis.
There must've been thousands of people recording the show and not being clandestine at all about it, so I'm sure cameras and recorders are alright. All I had was my cruddy cell phone camera.
Also, Matt plays a keytar during one song.

True, but I dont want to bring a camcorder and have it "confiscated" by their rent-a-cops if its not allowed :) It really depends on the stadium if they're allowed though.
Oh, I thought it was acts that determined whether or not they want to allow their performance to be recorded. Better check up on that, then. Better safe tan sorry.

I was there as well, it was my 103rd concert, and 3rd time seeing Muse (1st time seeing Silversun Pickups). Muse's light show was incredible and probably the best I've seen (and I've seen Nine Inch Nails, Tool, and Radiohead). But yeah, the full setlists for each band were:
Silversun Pickups
Growing Old Is Getting Old
Well Thought Out Twinkles
There's No Secrets This Year
The Royal We
Future Foe Scenarios
Substitution
Panic Switch
Lazy Eye
Muse
Uprising
Resistance
New Born
Supermassive Black Hole
MK Ultra
Interlude
Hysteria
Nishe
United States of Eurasia
Feeling Good
Helsinki Jam
Undisclosed Desires
Starlight
Unnatural Selection
Time Is Running Out
Plug In Baby
Encore:
Exogenesis: Symphony, Part 1: Overture
Stockholm Syndrome
Knights of Cydonia
Little upset Muse didn't play "Map of the Problematique"; but oh well, saw it back in '06. Overall though, easily one of the best concerts I've ever been too.

There is, sadly, no official recording of it. :( But, you can always listen to it via YouTube video (and maybe convert one of those to mp3?)
Who knows, they might release a studio version as a B-side? It took them a few years to record a studio version of "Popcorn" (it only came out recently on the "Resistance" single).
Haha, I just realized this. No wonder I didn't know the song, or its name. But it's really quite awesome, one of the highlights of the show imo. Shows how talented all around Muse is.

Woah. I'm glad I got to see Silversun Pickups headline a small venue and play a long set last year.
All the songs that ain't on that set would make me a sad panda if I was there.

Saw them in Chicago last Friday and it was insane!
I was sitting behind the skyscrapers, so I didn't get to see Silversun play (there was projections of three of the members on the back of the towers for us unofortunate people behind them) but God they were amazing! They destroyed it up there and I loved it. Wished they had played more than just 8 songs... Will definitely go and see them again.
Muse were breathtaking. I have never been to a concert that had that much energy present throughout the whole playlist. For playing for almost 2 hours, they never let up and made songs that I just kind of like (Unnatural Selection mainly) turn into something that I wished the album version sounded like it did live.
My two favorite bands and they were great. Thinking about going out west and seeing them again before the end of the tour, it was that amazing.
P.S. Bought a tour shirt for each band and it was the best $64 I have ever spent :D

I saw it too! Air Canada Centre, last Monday, baby.
SSPU's show was kinda forgettable, though. The only song of there's I really enjoyed was Panic Switch. But on the plus side, I got to hear the lead singer swear at us, which is kinda surreal.
But Muse, on the other hand.....good lord. That was like a two-hour long orgasm in my ears. It's too bad my ****ing camera ran out of battery.
But anyway, here's the setlist at the one I went to;
Uprising
Resistance
New Born
Map of the Problematique
Supermassive Black Hole
Guiding Light
Hysteria
United States of Eurasia
Feeling Good
Drum/Bass Solo
Undisclosed Desires
Starlight
Plug In Baby
Time is Running Out
Unatural Selection
Stockholm Syndrome
Knights of Cydonia

SSPU really needs to go on another headlining tour.im not paying 65 dollars to hear SSPU and then have Muse Violate my ears with the garbage from their new album. If they played a lot from OoS and Absolution,i would be there, but The resistance was one of the worst albums i heard in 09.
Dude, the Resistance wasn't that great but the show made everything that much better. Way better than album itself and worth it wholly to hear the classics live.

I got goosebumps watching those! Damnit this is not helping my impatient-ness ;D Did you stay after the show to try to get an autograph? I know some bands don't bother with that and some do, just curious.
As much as I want to video tape the concert since i've got seats and wont be trampled in the process - I'm a screamer at concerts, most times I lose my voice. I dont think that's very helpful on videos to have a person screaming next to the mic >.>
They rushed everyone out of the arena and I think Muse was in a hurry anyhow. Their next show is in Fort Worth, TX... tonight. So yeah. I WOULD HAVE, GLADLY. But life on the road is tough.
It truly was an amazing experience.
And yeah. You'd be surprised at how well camera recorders can capture your voice in what seems like an absolutely deafening atmosphere.

I saw them two days ago in Vancouver, BC. They were amazing! I missed the first Silversun Pickups song because the lines to buy t-shirts were agonizingly long. Made it for the rest of their set and they were incredible.
Muse's intro was epic and I was on my feet for the entire show haha. Can't wait for them to come back around, hope it won't be four years like the last time they came.
Easily the best show I've ever been to and will probably not be beat until they return. Still depressed that it's over :(

So.. just to let you know, I got hyped up for the show, ya know, drove 8 hours from Omaha, NE to Denver, CO. Show was postponed until October 2nd only a few hours before showtime start.
So yeah. Not only did i just waste 2 days unpaid at work, but also about 60 dollars in gas. October 2nd, I should be in florida, so I'm also going to have to pay for a plane ticket to denver since it isnt a "short" drive over.
Royally pissed off fan contemplating selling my ticket now, i know weather happens, but hell, postponing 6 months? that's crazy.

It's not like they're doing a Europe tour starting in May (http://www.myspace.com/muse) or anything. I understand your anger, and you're probably going to ask yourself "So why not have it towards the end of April or the beginning of May?" To tell you the truth, I really don't know, I figured they would've rescheduled it at the end of the US tour instead of the end of the Europe tour. Maybe that month is needed for a break for them, you know?

I dont know, nor do I really honestly care. Not like they're paying for my plane ticket. They could have just pushed back the show time, they were stuck in the snow 150 miles away. That was 4 hours before the show. Guess what? Roads in colorado get cleared fast. They could have just delayed the show a couple hours and made it no problem.

I bought mine through a ticket broker. They wont provide any refund since the show was not canceled. They said they dont have any info yet, but once they do they will email me on how to get the new ticket. I bought my ticket specifically on the left hand side to get a better view of Matthew, so if my ticket is not in the same spot, you can guarantee I will raise a stink about it since I paid 3 times the ticket price for that specific spot.

So apparently, from what I've read, Muse planned on coming back to the US later in the year anyway, that is why they rescheduled for October 2nd. There's no way a band could schedule a big event center in just a couple hours right?
I still worry about my seat location, I mean I paid a pretty good penny for the seat because I bought it just off of the stage where Matthew stands. They say that people will get their seats or better, but what if their "better" means the other side of the stage or something like that?

I'll still get to see it... in October ;) That is, if I can afford the flight :/
Matthew doesn't stand in one place anyhow. The only time the members are in one place (except for Dom, obviously) is when they're on the platforms during certain songs. Being the showman he is, Matt tears across the stage with his little guitar whirling move and knee slides regularly.
And big arenas usually have tight scheduling for shows, which is why they can't just be rescheduled for the next day oftentimes. If the show here had gotten delayed or canceled, we probably would have had to wait until later because the Predators had a game to play the very next night whereas Muse probably had to take off for San Antonio that very evening after the show.

Well, I didnt want floor spot because I'm too short so I figured off to the left side was the best :)
The scheduling thing is what is really weird. How is it that they were able to schedule a new show within a very short time?! Guess that means the rumors of a fall US tour is probably true. My guess is Muse was already penciled in that date at that stadium.
Edit to add: They just also announced SSPU will not be opening up for them that show. So disheartened :( Its a "TBD" still.
Yeah. Given the delay, I didn't think that SSP was going to be able to open for that particular show anymore. It's a damn shame, but they probably want to go on their own way after the summer.
I would think that the management has contingency plans on what to do in case something like this happens. That way they don't leave fans hanging without information for too long.

Yeah, its too bad, I was actually looking forward to SSPU too, i'm not a huge fan, but I really dig their songs.
Hopefully with me moving to Florida in a few months, maybe that'll open more doors for concerts, including if/when Muse does a fall US tour.

Which is why smaller shows are much better IMO. You get a lot of the more tight nit fans, when overkill and myself went to go see SSPU with Manchester Orchestra people even thoroughly enjoyed the opening act (Cage the Elephant, whom I might add were ****ing amazing)
The energy was there and both bands were great IMO.
I saw Jane's Addiction with NIN, Streetsweeper Social Club opened. People didn't really seem to care for Streetsweeper, and only certain people showed up for each band. I just didn't like the feel of the arena show.
