Why not go after some of the smaller bands on little labels where there might be less crap to go through to get the songs? Here's a list of bands/songs I think would be fun:

Aberfeldy - "Hypnotised"
Aqueduct - "Living A Lie"
The Arcade Fire - "Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)", "Wake Up", "Rebellion (Lies)", "The Well And The Lighthouse", "No Cars Go"
Buckcherry - "Next 2 You", "Out Of Line", "Crazy B*tch" - ok, so that last one's a stretch
Cursive - "Dorothy At Forty", "Rise Up! Rise Up!"
The Damnwells - "I Am A Leaver", "Accidental Man", "Sell The Lie"
Dear & The Headlights - "Sweet Talk", "Run In The Front"
The Format - "She Doesn't Get It", "Pick Me Up", "The First Single (Cause A Scene)", "Tie The Rope"
Grace Potter & The Nocturnals - "Ah Mary", "Stop The Bus"
The Grates - "Science Is Golden", "Feels Like Pain", "Inside Outside" - another stretch on the last one
Limbeck - "Honk + Wave", "Let Me Come Home", "Keeping Busy"
Love Arcade - "Candy", "Party"
The Lovely Feathers - "Rod Stewart", "Frantic"
The Manchester Orchestra - "Wolves At Night", "Now That You're Home", "The Neighborhood Is Bleeding"
Sam Roberts Band - "An American Draft Dodger In Thunder Bay", "Brother Down", or ANYTHING on Chemical City
Silversun Pickups - "Future Foe Scenario", "Melatonin", "Well Thought Out Twinkles", "Lazy Eye"
Sound Team - "Back In Town, "Born To Please", "Your Eyes Are Liars"
Tegan & Sara - "The Con", "Burn Your Life Down", "Nineteen", and the whole So Jealous album
The Thermals - "Here's Your Future", "I Might Need For You To Kill", "Power Doesn't Run On Nothing"
Viva Voce - "From The Devil Himself", "So Many Miles"

I want a Neutral milk hotel release. Those songs haunt me.

While there probably is less crap to go through to lisence it they've still gotta pay for it (probably) and since they are little bands on little labels most people haven't heard of it so it won't sell as good.
