View Full Version : PAL content (Not about release date)

Don't worry, this is not another thread just to ask about release date or price (although it would be nice to know).

I'm actually more curious about what Harmonix has planned for the Euro version, in particular with regards to the track-listing and DLC. To clarify; I read somewhere that the European version would include localized content (on disc and as download) for the different countries in the region.

Could this means that e.g. Germany could get some German tracks as DLC (Rammstein for instance)? If so, will other countries have the option to download this as well (Yes please), or will it be limited to specific regions?

I hope there are no licensing issues which would prevent them from releasing tracks across regions. I really like quite a few of the tracks released as US DLC and it would be a shame if we could not get these tracks.

Guitar Hero had some European tracks (although I think they are available in all regions). However due to the inclusion of a vocal career in Rock Band, non-English tracks may be not as popular with the majority of customers and thus Harmonix may avoid them all together, which would be a shame.

Same goes for the on-disc tracklist. I hope it's the same as the US one, or that any tracks replaced by regional content can still be obtained as DLC.

I just wanted to see if anyone from Harmonix could share what they have planned for the European content or when we could expect to hear more news about it?

Yeah we must be close enough to a release to get a taster of any localised content.

Theres so many great British bands I hope Harmonix has some nice surprises to make up for the long delay.

I also hope I'm ok to download them despite having a US copy. Presumably it will all be available via PSN and not on disc?

We knew the main tracks and first wave of US DLC months in advance of release, surely 1 or 2 UK/EU tracks must be leakable?

I've been told here before that HMX had stated that the on-disc songs would be the same worldwide, that only DLC would be localized.
As for using EU DLC with your US game, it's possible but not likely. I know that the free GH3 DLC that's available on the US store is NOT recognized by the Euro GH3 - it's likely that it would be the same for Rock Band.
It's a damn shame, as with the PSN cards coming out it would have been a damn sight cheaper to buy up all DLC from the US store on EU release (assuming they price the content at the same number (rather than value) as the US content (i.e. €1.99 for most songs)). Us Europeans will probably spend as much (if not more) on DLC at release as on the bundle :-)

I hope the track list isn't too different. There are some good tracks from lesser known bands and I wouldn't want to lose them.

If we're going to lose anything I hope it's **** like Metallica (although that will never happen).

But isn't all the US GH3 content also available in the EU store? That's all I'm asking from HMX; that all content is made available to all regions with Rock Band.

I suspect that the reason you cannot use US DL with a EU game has to do with PAL/NTSC coding, but this doesn't really matter as long as the EU has the content anyway.

Ideally, when Europe gets Rock Band, I hope they upload all the DLC so far to the EU stores and any potential EU regional songs will also be made available to the US. I have no problem with the on-disc tracklist being the same worldwide - It's a great tracklist.

Actually no - neither the boss battles nor the We Three Kings track are currently on the EU store (only the Foo Fighters pack and that other sucky pack). They probably will be made available at some point, but who knows when.
That's what I'm afraid of with Rock Band - we probably won't get all the DLC the US store has, or certainly not at launch.

It would be nice if we could get an official answer as to how they plan to handle DLC. Does Europe get all US DLC available at launch? Will post-EU-release DLC be released simultaneously in US & EU (including making EU band tracks available to USians to play)?
Any ideas on pricing would be nice too, but that's hardly the biggest issue at the moment.

Can I assume then that you are talking about the PSN store? As those tracks are definitely available for the 360 (UK at least - not sure about other countries).

Could this be an issue with the platform holder instead? They will need to certify the content and upload it - I see no reason why they would make it available everywhere else but the EU PS3 store?

PS: Nice summary in your last paragraph - I've added it as my signature and will tick them off when we get an answer.

Yeah I meant the PSN store; I didn't check today - I do know that the EU store (well the Belgian/Dutch store, since there seem to be differences even within the EU stores) didn't have them when We Three Kings was added to the US store. They may have been added in the meantime.

I dug up that previous thread about this: http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7418

So the main setlist will be the same, but some of the bonus content may change. They better not replace Freezepop, Bang Camaro, or Honest Bob, or there will be hell to pay! :D
Timmy they can replace - no matter what they put there, it would be an improvement.

That would make sense tbh, as the bonus songs are probably not that well know over here.

Unfortunately, no actual confirmation from HMX in that thread. :( It would be nice to get some confirmation or if they already have (as one poster stated in that thread), a link to the relevant article/thread.

Alex Rigopolus actually already confirmed that a "Toten Hosen" track is featured in the german version.

That sucks.

The idea that DLC would not be available to all regions madness, why would you go to the effort of encoding the song. And then limiting your market!

Surely this would not be the case.

As much as I'd like to have the same disc content unchanged like it is now, regional dlc would be great.

Since I'm from germany, some Rammstein, Ärzte, Sportfreunde Stiller or even Die toten Hosen would be fun to have. Hell, I'd give you my wife for some Rammstein tracks HMX :D
