Can you use the controller on PS3 for the 2nd guitar?

On Guitar Hero, you could use the controller as a second guitar. Does anyone know if you can do the same on RockBand? When we attempt to use a controller in addition to the guitar, microphone and drums, the fourth controller is always assigned to the microphone along with the other controller. Any help would be appreciated. The problem might be operator error on the PS3

A console controller will always be recognized as a microphone since a controller is required to choose vocalist options. You would have to use a guitar controller for it to recognize as a guitar.
