I have a Motorola Rival (http://www.verizon-cellphone.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/motorola-rival-a455.jpg). I got it cause of the keyboard and it was pretty cheap after the upgrade discount. I've already had to go to the Verizon store to get it replaced twice.

If you let any sales rep talk you into an LG Neon you should return to the store and kick them in the happy sacks. That phone is an absolute atrocity and it gets returned about 75% of the time to our store with catastrophic issues within 60 days. We refuse to sell it to anyone.

ya when i voiced my displeasure over the phone to the rep, she just suggested i go and buy a pay as you go phone and put in the sim card. Ya, great....

I'm considering investing in a smart phone of some kind in the future, not really looking forward on spending the hundreds for it, but i am not interested in waiting another year before upgrading the damn thing.

To be honest with you, if you aren't eligible for upgrade it's best to get the phone outside of a store. Craigslist or eBay are your best bets for a reasonably priced phone. If you want a PDA you can probably find a Blackberry fairly cheap (150 ish) if not maybe a Samsung Jack.

Go with the android operating system, if your looking for a smart phone.
