I am debating about whether to send back my drums and guitar for replacement. First let me say that I love the game, drums are awesome, and the guitar could blow away the xplorer, feels so much better.

I think I might be in a common position. Both of my instruments sort of work but are not nearly accurate enough to truly satisfy me. It's not big deal right now, I'm not trying to get high scores or anything, but it annoys me.

My fear is that sending it back won't really fix anything and I could end up with something worse. Do I settle for mediocrity with all the more horrible problems out there or not?

Guitar
My strum works fine on slow songs (both down and up). But sometimes on a fast streak or solo, it won't recognize a fair number of fast strums. Basically any 16th notes are hit or miss. I play a lot and am comfortable with both guitars (use the RB guitar for easy songs, and explorer for hard songs). Typically with the Xplorer on the same song I will get 7-8% higher on expert.

Drums
Now that I am playing drums on hard I am noticing more and more the same problem as everyone else, some notes just don't register. I can play a regular beat, and maybe one of every 8-10 notes won't register, maybe higher on fast streaks. I assume it's the same problems as everyone else, poor quality on the sensors so they are either missing notes or picking up extra notes.

Is it worth the trouble to return? Or will I likely end up with the same or worse compared to what I already have.

As a side note, if the instruments worked as well as the Xplorer Rock Band would be my all time favorite game. So close to perfect.

You probably have about a 50/50 chance when returning your instruments for replacements. I've read many posts from people who claimed the guitars have been fixed but I had no such luck with my replacement as it still randomly misses the long repetitive notes. Also, like mostly everyone, the overdrive activation is very flaky. I haven't really heard much about drum replacements and if they are any better.

If you can deal with what you have currently, I would wait it out until you see a larger number of success stories appearing on the forums. Although, if you choose the express method for the warranty and do it online, it really isn't that much of a hassle (at least it wasn't for me with my guitar).

While I agree that waiting for them to get PROPER replacement gear might be an option, realistically, get it replaced.

The only way they are going to learn that they can't send out crap in the first place is to cost them money. The way to cost them money is to have them RMA it. Remember, it costs them money everytime you do it. Do it, and do it often. Perhaps this will be the lesson learned for them to either

a) not rush the game out the door if it (or the peripherals) isn't ready

or

b) stop cutting corners to save a few bucks up front.
