Season 8 is going to be 24's last. The long-running action series starring Kiefer Sutherland has been canceled, Fox announced Friday.

According to this (http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/2010-03-26-24-series-end_N.htm), they tried and "NBC wasn't interested." The most interesting line is that "the series will come to a more "definitive" end than in past seasons, Sutherland says, that makes it clear hero Jack Bauer can't continue in his role as CTU's action hero."

Does this mean the long rumored death of Jack Bauer?

I enjoy the show, but it's pretty much run it's course. Hopefully this season can end on a strong note. And I don't want the morons at NBC anywhere near that show.

Season 5 was the best season in 24 history. 6 was pretty bad. 7 was OK. Haven't watched much of 8.

Yeah, season 6 was dreadful. I enjoyed season 7 while it was on, but when I tried to watch the DVDs, I just couldn't get into it again. Season 8 has been largely meh. I just hope that if they do kill off Jack, they don't wimp out and have him go out the same way Mason did.

The eight seasons are not consecutive days. They are just cherry-picked days from his entire life.

Also, I believe in the 24 universe, people are normally awake for 32 hours at a time and then sleep for 16 hours. At least, that's the reasoning I made up.

I agree that Season 3 was the best. I thought this was announced a while ago, and as far as I remember Kiefer has been considering ending it since season 4.

Audrey never had very much personality, and Renee is incredibly underdeveloped. Really the only good 'love interest' was Kate. Other than maybe Nina.
