View Full Version : Just Cause 2: Who's playing it?

I rolled my eyes when I heard that Just Cause was getting a sequel. That one-wheeled bicycle of a game sure had a lot of broken promises tying it down, and enough to make me wonder what figure justified a sequel.

Well, if the developers' sales pitch was anything like the demo, it's easy to see why it deserved another shot.

The story is totally bollocks and the voice acting and accents are laughably horribad, not to mention there is something questionable about a game that not only lets you act like a terrorist but encourages it. But goddamn is it fun. The gameplay has been fixed, and this must be the biggest in-game world I have ever seen. You can go anywhere, and there's something oddly enthralling about doing absolutely nothing but flying around, going out of the way and just gawking at this beautiful scenery that Eidos and Square Enix have wrought. I've plinked down 25 hours on the game so far and I haven't even done the second story mission.

It further astounds me that there is little to no slowdown with everything that's happening on the screen.

I know that corporalgregg was looking forward to this game. Anyone else?

my bro bought it yesterday, played it a bit today, nothing special, just another mercinary game.

Gregg's videos detailing some of the things you could do has been the best ad for me. I'm curious how much fun you can have in such a huge sandbox compared to the kinda barren GTA4 city.

Plan on getting thios for my b-day later, ****ing loved the demo. Played it at least 7 times since there was so much you could do with so little space. It's like RFG and Far Cry 2 had a baby and the baby had none of the flaws that the otehr games had.

Demo is enough for me

That grappling hook is badass though.
There's always something awesome about strapping some dude to a propane tank, shooting it, then watching him fly.

Same for me, the Demo was enough. While fun it’s not enough to warrant a full price purchase.

I also have to wonder just what the “Just Cause” is. It seems to me you’re trying to overthrow one evil dictator by working with a terrorist group that’s content with blowing up the civilians water and power needs.

Best game of the year, IMO. If you aren't playing it, you're a communist to whatever country you're from. :D

A solid game, with a LOT of flaws. But very enjoyable and entertaining. The lip syncing offset is horrible, but the camp value adds a lot to the entertainment value as far as the plot is concerned.

But major con's I don't like:

- inventory system
- infinite enemies per base
- sometimes choppy combat system
- horrible car handling

Not an amazing game, but such an improvement from the first. But, I think I'm done playing this. Gotta get ready for L.A. Noire!!! :D :D :D :D

A lot of my must haves/games of interest have already come out so far, but I've still got a list going.

First up is Nier, more of a maybe than a must have. Next is Alpha Protocol, already have it pre-ordered (I've had it pre-ordered since it's November release date, was extremely bummed it got delayed so much) Third, Fallout: New Vegas, another maybe. I liked Fallout 3 ok, but I'm not as big of a fan the franchise as most people are so I dunno if I wanna keep up with it (I played 1 and 2 as well and also thought they were only ok). Fourth, Dead Rising: 2, is probably a must have, I wish the first would come out for PS3, I do love my zombies. Fifth is Arcania: A Gothic Tale. It's still a maybe, I never played any of the other Gothic games, but it seems interesting. Sixth is LA Noire, that's a must have. The last is Castlevania: Lord of Shadows, that's a must have but not sure if it will actually come out this year.

It's not a full price purchase though. At least not compared to other games. It's $40 in Canada at Wal-mart and $45 in the US at K-Mart.

Not at my Walmart. And I haven't tried Kmart because of the urine smell my local one has.

Every so often, we have one of these years where it seems like every game that comes out is a must have.

I think it's a concerted conspiracy by game developers to bankrupt us. :p

I finally burnt out on the game. I'll pick it up in another week or two, but right now I need a break. I am definitely looking forward to: Super Street Fighter IV, Metroid: Other M, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Red Dead Redemption, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Rock Band 3...

It's going to be a rough year. :D
