View Full Version : Whats the point to online play?

Hey.. I've tried to find this answer online and calling support but unsuccessful. What is the point to online play? Other than the obvious.. are the scores recorded? I know if you play as a band then at the end of a play you'll receive scores. Are those scores recorded somewhere under your character information? Do the band scores go to the leader? If there are scores recorded for any type online play where would I find them?? I enjoy playing online with others but it's not as fun if scores aren't tallied somehow and if others can't hear the vocalist performing. If either of these options were available I would enjoy online play much more.. and of course a world tour would be cool too.
Thanks in advance to whoever can help me with these answers :-)

Online play is pretty much just a jam session, no scores recorded. I'm actually pretty dissappointed with this website, I don't see how it adds any value to online play. My hopes were that it would allow you to create an online band and track your scores when you play online together, but all it does is track scores that are already available through the in game leaderboards, big dissappointment.

I was hoping they could've allowed us to gain cash after finishing songs in online play, that way we have at least some kind of outcome from it.

Thanks for the info. I thought I was missing something.. but I guess the only point to online play is to jam. Which is OK but I assumed there was more.. hopefully theyll expand on this form of play as the game develops.

Well said.

Considering that I can't get together with my Rock Band friends more than two or three times a year, I think the online mode is great. I can always find someone to play with, which gives the game a lot more depth than when I'm just cruising through it alone.

If you play Score duel or Tug of War, scores are tallied if you choose rank. Well I should not say scores but you will be ranked therefore seeing something for your hard work.

I have nothing but poor friends who can not afford such luxuries as Rock Band. If it weren't for online play I would never get to play four player until we buy our own second guitar controller. :(

QFT. Seriously... is having fun online with your friends on a game just not enough anymore?

Man, I wish I could find someone to play with. Anytime I try to play online, I go five minutes "Searching..." or the guy that shows up quits in about ten seconds. =(

I've had fun playing online with others. Just wish I could chat with other players (PS3) or hear the lead's vocals. And.. it would be nice to have a goal to shoot for online like World Tour or.. working on stats. I haven't had a lot of trouble finding other players for band quick play but do have trouble with tug of war and duel. Also, I haven't seen the rank system that you're talking about but will check it out tomorrow. It sounds interesting. Other than looking on leader boards.. each character/band member doesn't seem to have own profile. It would be nice if there were individual character profiles with stats listed. RB was released this year so I'm sure like other online games play will develop and change as time goes on. For an initial start.. I'm satisfied.. but def look forward to future developments.

My handle is the same for PS3.

I unlocked an achievement on the 360 version during online mode. It was a "Great Performance" one or something like that. We five starred a song and almost everybody hit all of their notes...so there's your trophy if you will.

Us PS3 owners have it worse. No voice chat and no rankings when playing against others (unless i'm missing that). Hopefully they do something about it.

PS3 owners get the shaft on everything! I own a PS3 and an Xbox 360. The PS3 is lacking on all multi-party games. The Blu-Ray player is great and PS3 original titles are very good, but otherwise, I buy games for the 360 just because of achievements, better framerates, better multiplayer options and silly things like you find with chat problems, lacking support for Guitar Hero 3 guitar, etc...the list just goes on and on...I cannot believe that PS3 owners get the shaft so much...what the hell is going on?

I love playing online with random people (well, most of them). It's fun, who cares if it doesn't mean anything.

I do have some pet peeves, though.

The vocalists that hold down the trigger without testing it with the rest of the band (here's a tip, fellas...you can't hear the vocals without holding the trigger because 95% of the time IT LAGS HORRIBLY and throws everyone else off). Test it out first if you're going to do it...sometimes everyone's connection is good enough to make it work, but usually not.

Guitarists that quit the second they get stuck with bass. I try to alternate every other song, but if the other guitarist keeps choosing guitar on every song then I will too and let the randomizer handle it. Eventually I'll get guitar and they'll get bass. At which point they quit. Idiots.

Drummers that don't mute their mics during the songs (nothing like trying to play along with a slightly off beat static-filled "whack whack whack" in your ear to throw you off).

Any player that has a conversation with someone else in the room with their mic on. Miss a couple of notes and hit the freaking mute switch already.

I do still have a small piece of hope for an online BWT mode so I have something to play with my far-off friends that does have a goal to it, but in the meantime Quickplay is still pretty fun.

By the way, XBox Live has been horribly screwed up the past couple of days, so if you can't find anyone to play with, it's not a lack of players, it's Live. I've run into problems with both RB and COD4 online over the last few days. Hopefully Microshaft will hurry up and fix it.

I dont see the rankings but Im guessing thats not for PS3 but for XBox. Whatever.. Id love to chat while playing online though and someone on the forum said that they were getting a messenger together for PS3 users? Ive got a computer set up right by where I play RB so that would be sweet.. some kind of voice or video chat would be better. Anybody thats interested in playing online with me pls add: nutopian.
Thanks :-)
Hope to see you online!
