Could be NAT Type # (network address translation) that is configured with your router. I think if there is a mismatch with the leader (or someone else in already in the band), it may prevent you from connecting. You will also want to put your PS3 on the DMZ (configurable in your router settings).

I have one friend who can never connect with the leader if other people have already joined. In order for her to join, everyone else has to jump off, allow her to jump in, then everyone else follows. Kind of a pain.
