View Full Version : Why is Guitar Hero 3 such assy garbage?

Seriously, I remember renting this abomination from Blockbuster a month ago.

First off, the first 7 sections are boring as HELL.

The window of time to activate a note is just a joke, why don't you just play for me?

And did they use the same CRAPPY, out of tune ESP to cover every goddamn song? It's a disgrace to a great franchise.

And whos the mutant on vox? Is he one of the new X-men? He looks like a talking nutsack.

AND WHY IS THE ANIMATRONIC BEAR FROM CHUCKY CHEESE PLAYING MY DRUMS?

I played Rockband for the first time last night with 3 other buddies and I have not slept yet.

It's such an incredible experience. Tom Sawyer? The Outlaws? Epic? And of course all of the boston natives that were in GH1 and GH2. Harmonix, you never cease to amaze me.

I was playing this last night with my best friend andre, and I said "Dude this is what Frequency has evolved into" and he was just like "whoa".

He was high, I wasnt.

harmonix, I also hear of this metallica pack? I have not downloaded this yet, But I will. Blackened is an incredible song and I almost filled my panties when I heard of it.

Why nothing off of Kill em' All? Dave Mustaine being a *****? Anyways, great work with this game, you guys are the most original and creative team of developers, artists and musical prodigies to ever grace this generation's entertainment scene.

Keep up the great work!

Because...

1. Harmonix didn't make it. Neversoft did.
2. Neversoft hired amatuers that made customs. (Most,if not all,of Harmonix are musicians themeselves so know how to chart songs)
3. Money first with them, not music or the game.
4. Neversoft made the same mistake here as with the last Tony Hawk game, they didn't they'd be completly upstaged and put to shame by EA's game of the same genre.
5. Activision is probably making RO their *****.

They got one thing right at least, the cheats save.

Thats a very good point, even though a lot of people complain that rock band is way to easy, I am actually having fun playing the guitar charts, where as in GH it's just painful on your fingers

Opinions are like buttholes, Everybody has one and they all stink.....

Both games have pros and cons, play what you like and be seen, not heard...

You don't need to trash a game just because its not for you ( oh the finger pain)..If slow, easy Guitar as a group is for you, then stick w/ RB...Which was made as a BAND game not a Solo Guitar game....If you want the finger challenge associated with playing guitar play GH..Either way they are both fun as ever and just be happy we have these available....

I always laugh when I see people saying Rock Band is easier than Guitar Hero III. Sorry, but the timing on RB make GGAHT and most of the Metallica solos a cast iron ***** to play. GHIII just requires you to wiggle your fingers in the general direction of the note.

It doesn't have to be one or the other.

Guitar Hero is a better solo experience.
Rock Band is a better multiplayer experience.

Hardware for GH is better (I avoided the whole catastrophe with RB by using the GH guitars).

Graphics are better on GH (fretboards are boring on RB). The meters, etc are much better on GH.

They both have their strengths and weaknesses, but it's ok to like both, really it is.

I agree with the last post, Guitar Hero 3 has its perks and as a game I enjoy playing it when I feel like playing some metal. It's a different style and feel then RB and it was suppose to be.

HOWEVER, I am a computer animator and I must say that the animations and general visuals of Guitar Hero 3 are TRASH. In fact, on the first day I made the same quote as the first guy on this post about the drummer looking like the drummer from chucky cheese, I honestly think they should make a DLC where you can make him the chucky cheese drummer. It would be hilarious. Also, the singers mouth is beyond creepy, its done wrong and quite poorly. Some of the worst deformations I've seen in a next-gen game so far, just really rank. Also, with such low visual quality I should NEVER get slow down while playing and I consistently do on several songs on my 360.

It definitely has its negative aspects but to be fair, I still had a ton of fun playing through it, and I still play it about every other day if for nothing more than keeping my fingers in shape lol.

Rock Band is easier........Hard on GH2 and 3 are equal to Expert on Rockband

As that is true, how about Drums? Expert Drums on RTTH is like Expert One or Raining blood on Guitar. Near impossible for non drummers.

GH3 was good for amusing me until Rock Band came out.

The notecharts are ridiculous and hard for the sake of being hard, and the timing is ridiculous. I think they did this so we would suck at RB's engine and make us pissed and have us go back to GH3. The charts on RB aren't as hard, but the engine is mercilous. HO/PO's are extremely difficult. The graphics in RB are superior (seperate strings moving, the characters aren't as butt-ugly as GH3, the characters display emotion very well), the mocap is superior (the hands actually do hammer-ons unlike GH3 where they strum every note, the drummers move like robots), and the music is superior (DLC ftw)

Solo/multi doesn't matter. RB is just out and out better either way.

GH 3 did do something else right by having all songs available on all difficulties. RB also did something wrong that GH has always done, that's letting you pick your arena seperate from your song. I like being able to hold a HO/PO note in advance too but I think that's technically wrong. Other than that and saveable cheats GH 3 has nothing over RB.

Forgot something in my first post
6. They added those rediculous battles.

i was already disappointed with GH3 once i got it (i went back to II and I) but once i played RB, i was sold. i think i only touched GH3 when i had company over. but since i got RB, i don't even play it anymore =/
i think one of the main reasons GH3 isn't as good as it could have been is just.. Neversoft is lazy. they thought the name would carry itself, so they could half-ass everything else. quite frankly, after beating the career co-op mode on GH3, i was just so fed up with working so hard for nothing and watching those crappy graphics for that past few hours, that i just stopped playing.

Unfortunately, the fret board and display (rock meter, overdrive meter) for RB is plain and not as good as GH's, and that's the stuff you notice more than the graphics of the band members when you're playing, and not being a spectator.

Dave Mustaine being a *****?

There is where I stopped reading. Otherwise, I agree. Guitar Hero 3 is pretty crappy. Neversoft ruined a great series.

It was a joke. I would figure Dave Mustaine may still have bitter feelings towards metallica, but I don't personally know.

Anyways, back on topic...

Who wants to bet Tom Morello rolled over for a small price? What a ****ing sellout huh?

Yeah Audioslave was cool, but did anyone hear The Nightwatchman? No one can make a guitar barf like him, and that's for damn sure. Zach is the only person in RATM that actually stands for something, it's kind of sickening.

Every fretboard in GH3 besides Casey's is distracting. Also, Rock Band's rock meter is bigger and more helpfull when trying to figure out when you need to activate overdrive. In GH3, sometimes it seems like you fail in the green.

I like it. I don't think it sucks at all. But I do wish they didn't mess up the chart on the solo in "One." I don't have Rock Band so I'm not gonna cmpare the two. But dude, GHIII does not suck.

Do the guy who hasnt played Rock Band Yet, once you play it, it will make you wish that you'd never played Guitar Hero III.

Its not even funny, i was soo excited for GHIII, and i enjoyed playing it. Until the day i got rock band, i really didnt want guitar hero III. I think after a few more weeks of playing it, i might trade it in (its a maybe).

They messed up soo badly on songs it ain't even funny, No More Sorrow could've been alot better than it was not (even as DLC it shouldnt matter) the opening is all messed up. but whatever.

You "MIGHT" trade it in?

Check this out, I paid 8 dollars to rent it for 1 week.

I took it home, smashed on it on expert, took it back after day 3.

It's pure trash.

Uh, no. When I do XBL past midnight I use the Strat. I still five-star songs on expert but I miss more notes than I would on the X-plorer. I strum the exact same way.

I don't think it's absolute rubbish. It is a well put together game-very good for Neversoft's first go at a rhythm game. GH3 isn't as well balanced as GH1/2, but the game is still enjoyable to play.

It definitely isn't my favourite out of the lot-GH2 holds that crown, IMO-but I can appreciate a competent game.

That being said, GH3 didn't do it for me. It felt like an imatation of Guitar Hero. The artstyle is way to different; they got rid of Clive Winston and Pandora, two of my favourite characters, for no reason; the timing window too forever for me to get used to and the game lacks Harmonix's goal which was to bring the experience of playing a guitar to everyone. GH3 was made to challenge those who play on expert from the outset but it did it in the wrong way. Neversoft seemed to forget about something called a difficulty curve; instead, the majority of the game is a walk down Easy Street but then the last tier comes and suddenly you've walked into the part of town where rape and heroin shooters are common place. It makes no sense.

Convoluted difficulty aside, GH3 isn't "assy garbage" but at the same time it isn't better than it's predecessors, which is exactly what a sequel attemps to do. It is the Perfect Dark Zero to Perfect Dark; Madden 06 to Madden 2005 or Meteora to Hybrid Theory-merely competent at what it does. Nothing more, nothing less.

I went back and tried out GH III the other day after not playing it for months. I played a few of the free downloaded tracks I had accumulated, and they weren't so bad. I then went and played some 3s and 7s, and it was so bad compared to Rock Band's version, just throwing in all those three note chords like crazy, makes it overly hard and awkward, when it doesn't have to be. I put GH III back down, I doubt I'll pick it up again.

Yeah they really went over the top on triple note chords.

I'm surprised they didn't have 4 note chords.

There are. Play "Go That Far" on expert, on rhythm guitar.

i got rock band for the guitar, its a hell of a lot easier than GH3 i 5 starred every song first try and ive never failed, this may be because ive 5 starred every gh3 expert but in the end, i wanna play rock band cuz its fun as ****tt compared to gh3 so u can party

I thoroughly enjoyed GHIII, I personally found the guitar to be more fun. But I'm one of those crazy people who enjoys a challenge. To be honest, I absolutely LOVE the strat, but it is clearly made with inferior parts, I do not experience any broken hardware with the x-plorer. I prefer GHIII to RB, to be honest, because I enjoy playing alone and my sisters won't leave me alone to play RB on my own. I have to play when they aren't home just to enjoy it. I have difficulty playing with friends as well, they either don't like the game or live too far away.

I own both games. I pefer Rock Band hands down over Guitar Hero 3. While it's true that both games have pros and cons, I find that Guitar Hero 3's cons make what could have been a fun game almost a mockery of the Guitar Hero name. Speaking strictly on the guitar aspect of the games, Rock Band is obviously superior. My first real disappointing experience was at my cousin's house. He and I were playing against each other, playing a song on Hard. There was a string of about 20 hammer-ons/pull-offs that I nailed perfectly, and as soon as I did, I thought to myself, "I shouldn't have hit most of those notes." In my mind, the game is terribly un-balanced, with some parts being too easy, like the hos/pus or the first 5 or 6 sets of songs, and other parts being too hard, like the last couple of sets and the tri-note chords. I was disgusted when I played Cherub Rock for the first time on Hard-the majority of notes are tri-note chords...it's not like I couldn't play the song, I did fine on it, but such a note chart is unreasonable and unecessary. I find most of the note charts to be horrible.

Also, the game's visuals are garbage. Like it has been said before, the drummer is almost laughable, and I find the singer to be absolutely hideous. I mean, this guy makes Steven Tyler look beautiful. Rock Band looks good, the movements are natural, and I think the plain fretboards are a stroke of genius. Also, making your character look like you want him to look is half of the fun.

Also, don't get me started on controller issues for both games...I did not get the Les Paul, and I'm happy. Also, I am an XBOX 360 owner, but I feel extremely sorry for PS3 owners who cannot use their Les Pauls with Rock Band-that is outrageous.

Overall, I find that Rock Band is clearly better and more fun than GH3.

being in nz(new zealand...) im still waiting to immediately purchase this game, but gotta say-highly disappointed with gh3. playing on expert is such a noticeable rise in difficulty, and its like its trying to be hard for the sake of being hard. i can swear there are extra notes added in the fast solo of one, and through the fire and flames is just something for the hard outs to show off on you tube! i think free bird was the perfect degree of difficulty-plus you didnt get OOS from it!
bring on rockband man, i wanna play some sabbath. well... at least til they announce megadeth dlc ;)
