View Full Version : The Saboteur

Has anyone played The Saboteur? It came out in December of 2009 and I think it's one of the most satisfying games I've played in a long time. Just combine GTA with Assassin's Creed, make the character an Irishman, have him kill Nazis with explosives and you have The Saboteur. I bought it last week and beat it earlier today. Don't let that make you think it's short, the stats screen says I was right at 24 hours when I beat the game.

Also, you can currently get it on the EA website for 19.99 +Shipping. I highly recommend this game for anyone who likes these types of games. I'd give it a 10/10. After 24 hours I still can't find anything wrong with the game.

I want it, but I have no money :(

Not to mention it was Pandemic's swan song, I really need to get this game.

I was gonna throw down 20$ on this, but it's back to 40$. I'll wait for the price to drop a bit more.

Oh, well I guess it's still 20$ on Amazon. I'll be getting this.

it's pretty fun at first, but gets old extremely fast... the ending is also incredibly weak.

I like the game a lot, there's a TON of stuff to blow up in the game (with achievements for them too!)

I'm still slowly working on getting all those pieces blown up.

I enjoyed it, but as others said it got old fast. I hated beating areas because it looked cooler black and white.

I ended up killing every single white dot on the map. I was bored that week.

Its a really solid game.

Oh and boobs, dont forget about the boobs.

There was some really annoying gameplay design but overall I enjoyed what I played of it. Didn't finish it yet. Also perfered the black & white/grayscale/Sin City/whatever style to the color.

I thought it was a lot of fun. But L.A. Noire will blow it out of the water, along with pretty much every open world game lol.

Is L.A. Noire even going to be an open world game? I was under the impression it was going to be more of a cinematic QTE-y dealio like Heavy Rain.

On topic: I looked into this game a bit, but doesn't really seem my cup of tea. 24 hours is short in my book as well, and I only get a short game if it really impresses me (Heavy Rain, Darksiders, etc) If a game doesn't take at least 60 hours, give or take a few hours, it's short imo.

L.A. Noire is absolutly nothing like this game, and its nothing like alot of people think.

Its like saying Fallout 3 is the same thing as Borderlands.

So you only like RPGs?

For the most part, yes. I sometimes delve into action games and rarely non RPG shooters (IE FEAR, one of the only non-RPG element shooter I have). And then there's RB, of course, which has no playtime cap.

I'm curious as to what you're talking about.

The ridiculous infinte respawns comes to mind.
I haven't played it in a while so I'm not sure what else there was exactly.

Kariodude
04-08-2010, 12:03 AM
I never encountered any infinite respawn points in the game. I'd go somewhere, kill some Nazis, keep running, kill more. Rinse and repeat.

The only thing I can think of is when you kill someone and a vehicle shows up and 3 or 4 Nazis pile out of it, but that's hardly infinite.

This game is awesome. I only beat it once but I did get 100% completion in the stats, including the freeplay events that weren't necessary for the achievements. I'll pick it up again someday and play through it once more. It was a great last game for Pandemic Studios.

It was during a mission. I had to blow up the same blimp about 8 times. Then kill guys outside the base so I could blow up the stuff inside the base but no the guys outside kept coming back and the blimp kept coming back and the planes kept coming back.
Though that reminds me of the RIDICULOUS accuracy they all have.
Then there's the disguises that barely work and are difficult to get because you can't wear them if you shoot someone.
Frustrated more than once, that's for sure. I'm sure there's more stuff I'm not remembering.

Rented this and got to play it for a couple hours tonight. I'm digging it so far, except it can be very unforgiving when a Nazi sees you run and immediately sounds an alarm. Damn, those guys are uptight.

Then I have fulfilled my purpose and can die in peace!

Seriously thought I'm glad you are enjoying it. I think I'm gonna fire it up and get to work on some more of those freeplay events.

I honestly bought this today when I went to EBgames because this thread had a small part in reminding me I was willing to buy it when it was full price but forgot.

$19.99? Sold.

I also bought Resonance of Fate, Godfather 2(I know, but it was only $9.99), Disgaea DS ($9.99) and Chrono Trigger DS ($14.99).

I won't get to play anything until probably early this week, but after grinding out FF13 for 90 hours, I don't think RoF will be my first choice... it'll be Saboteur.

I've played a few hours today, and really am enjoying it. I can see already how grindy the freeroam stuff is going to be, but I'm okay with that.

And yeah, the trophy thing is hilarious, all the dings I was really confused... and then I looked at what's left... it'll be awhile!

I stopped at Futureshop after work and picked up the game for 20 bucks, worried that it was going to go up to 60 again.

Then I played for around 5 hours. It's damn addicting to blow stuff up, and sneak around. Excellent game

I agree with you kev!

I've been playing this game like mad. I have 7 hours of playtime clocked already, I'm about 1/3 done with the story and about 1/10 done with all the freeplay stuff. I want to do everything, so, I'm basically working on the freeplay stuff first then working on the story.

Finished the main story today. Debating whether or not I want to put in the effort to get all the achievements. Maybe after a break from this game.

I'm mixing up the main story with doing a bunch of freeplays in between so that the end game won't be a massive grind...

The thing that is pissing me off is this game has locked up on me at least 5 times now for no reason in random parts of the game.

Same here. My playthrough has been riddled with little glitches:

-Nazis frequently plummeting to their death from their guard towers
-even after showing my papers, border crossings deciding partway that I'm suspicious, locking me in between the gates and killing me
-random people or cars on the street getting catapulted into the air for no reason
-while jumping over a bench, Sean plunged through the street into an abyss and eventually died

It's been funnier than annoying though :)

Ugh, looking at the achievement list is giving me second thoughts. 15g to destroy all 425 structures in countryside? Don't know if I have the patience.

Flawless
04-15-2010, 11:32 AM
Haha wow, I wish I had cool glitches.

Just the lock ups, which are annoying because I feel like it's one of those games where you start playing and you're like "meh" but once you're into it... you're REALLY into it. When it locks up, it kills that flow and I generally call it a day.

Still, $20, awesome.

Totally agreed. I've still seen it for $70 at a few places, so I wonder if this $20 thing is temporary.

Once you are able to plant bombs while wearing a nazi disguise, it goes fast (one of the perks). You drop a bunch of the remote detonated bombs in an area, and hit the button and clear an area in no-time.

I just blew up all the train bridges to get that perk, so hopefully it will help :)

Fun and hasn't locked up in two days.

That's actually easy! I got that not too long ago.

When he's standing still, you can click the left thumbstick and that will make him smoke one. At times, I'd stop and let him have a smoke, then continue on with my mission and/or random destruction.

The 'Killing a General' achievement was kind of hard. Haha, a 5 pointer that's semi hard. I got bored while disguised once and came up to him and stealth killed. Whenever I was trying to actually get it, something would always go wrong!

I'm trying to balance out gameplay of Conviction and this. I think I play conviction at night and Saboteur more in the daylight (though, I do play it at night like I'm going to here in a little bit).

kiggidykev
04-19-2010, 12:28 AM
Haha, I keep trying to leave the game idle so he'll smoke, and then the controller turns off and kicks me to the pause menu

BuRn7 CaK3
04-19-2010, 12:30 AM
Yeah, I was trying to do that myself until that happened to me. Then I just did my technique and I got it in no time.

Of course, there would be times I'm browsing some sites while playing it, and I'd let him smoke a bunch too.

Freeplay events. I got all of them in Paris Area 1! I like just doing those when I have a bunch of them on the map to do. It keeps me from completing the story so fast.
