View Full Version : i have an idea that would expand the possiblilties of metal in rock band

ok, so we all know that bands like Dimmu Borgir and Behemoth and Cannibal Corpse have about zero chance of making it into the final set list of rockband.
so i think that all of us metal heads have turned our hopes on the DLC to get our crazy doomy fix.
even so, theres still the issue of the actual vocals.
i konw that I can death grunt and growl and all that good stuff for a while, but my throat is always killing me afterward. also, cookie monster vox aint exactly the clearest form of vocals in the music industry, so i can only imagine how hard of time the mic will have trying to distern what the singer is actually saying.
add bands like dimmu borgir who has songs in completely different languages and that spells D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R.
but.
what if they just exclude the vocals portion of some songs....?
ok, im not saying have songs available with NO vox tracks, im just saying dont make the vox playable on those songs.
i mean really, would it be THAT dissapointing if some of the DLC songs didnt support the vocals? youd still get to play bass, guitar and drums on your favorite metal songs, and you can still sing along so it wouldnt be THAT bad... id be happy with it.
what do you guys think? would you cry in your cheerios if your favorite dimmu songs were on the DLC just missing the vox part? i wouldnt mind sacrificing the vox to be able to play the rest of the song.
any body think that harmonix would do this? id be ultimately satisfied lol.

I see what you mean, but the point of the game is to have a whole band, isn't it?

It might be the point to have the whole band, but like I pointed out in other threads regarding the DLC, they're less restrictions on it, surely it's up to the individual user to pick whether they wish to jam out with the DLC or to just leave it and grab another one instead?
I can see instrumental tracks going as DLC, and tracks without a drum in it, and mebbe without a bass (tho' without a lead is unlikely in a game called Rock Band, lol).
I think some bands it may be required that, to get them in the game, the singing will need to be ommitted, or allow you to do the singing, but it be more of a "freestyle" as far as the points are concerned for it (i.e. you can choose to sing, but you get no points for it, and you can't be greyed out, so it'd be like any other song without a singer, but yet you could sing).
That's my idea for it anyway.

yeah thats my whole thinking.
the DLC is alot looser for the game because its optional material. dont like it? ok fine dont download it. its not like the songs going ON THE GAME teh ones that you'll have to play over and over to get high scores, and have to play to get through the career.
but also another idea that i had was instrument specific packages.
so there could be guitar packages that feature, bout five songs that are mainly guitar tracks. or drum packages that feature songs with drum solos and other stuff.
harmonix has an incredible platform on their hands. i think this is the one time that a game is coming out that they could easily please every one.
the DLC has monumental potential and could be their number one selling point.
but then again they could have made the drum kit incredibally better than it is with features such as, positionable pads, expansion ports for extra peddles, and eveb brackets for addition pads and other percusion (COWBELL) but they didnt. idk why they didnt cuz it wouldnt have been that expensive to include a few extra ports, and later introduce the aditional pads, and pedals and on the DLC feature songs that supported them....
god it could all be perfect!

yes, and thats why the tracks that are actually in the game should be chosen with entire band participation in mind. but the DLC could feature songs that only feature complex guitar solos, maybe even funk songs so the bassist can get in on the action.

How do we know they've not got addition ports in the drum kits for future accessories? Could be one underneath some of the drums and such (Ok, it's a long shot, but it's a possibility for future... but I figure having this will be tough enough to get used to for me... I rock at GH, but my co-ordination past that is crap, I tried DDR and I wasn't able to get anywhere on medium, lol)
But I do like the idea of instrument specific stuff. But I agree that the DLC will be the game's biggest selling point, it's the reason I'm entirely willing to buy a 360 purely for this game... 'cause it's going to allow me to grab new music regularly (Even if I don't know the artist, I'll nab the stuff unless I know I hate that song specifically, because... why not? It's new tuneage!) The whole DLC thing means, unlike GH2, where I can only play a few tracks at a time before being bored by the same ones repeatedly, (I have the PS2 version), I'll have access to literally hundreds of songs, meaning I wont be tightly restriced with it, and instead can just keep playing it.
So I can see myself buying a 360, rigging it up in the main living room, for the sole purpose of this game (and it also would mean that I could transfer footage of other stuff directly onto it, to play through the main TV, eliminating the need of trying to write it as a DVD file, and instead can just transfer it across on portable media and such).

yeah i know theres still a possibility but then again i seriously doubt it. it wouldve been mentioned by now by SOME ONE!!!! lol.
but then again the lil "phone jack" looking port on the xplorer for the 360 wasnt really mentioned... but then again every one is still trying to figure out what it was for (my vote is still for effect pedals that never saw the light of day).
and yes the DLC will keep life in this one, unless they do it like they have done with guitar hero two on the 360. OH sure they promised downloadable content, new songs, online features. but the only DLC we have so far is four song packages that are just rehashed songs from guitar hero 1!!! whatta gip!
but yeah, i know that i have high hopes for this game and will be ultimately be disapointed, but i can only hope that the people at harmonix realize the sugar covered cash cow that their sitting on and start focusing on the DLC.
HMX: whats that billy? you wanna play some death metal, wellll alright! GO CHECK THE DLC!

Hmm I dont know how the voice and the whole karaoke thing works, but I think the game wouldnt be that rough on you. I mean, if they were to put in some Maiden, the game wouldnt expect you to go as high as Dickinson. Thatd be unfair lol
I just dont think they should have to take the mic part of the songs, just adjust it, because seriously, not many people can hit those notes. Maybe the game could go easy on you?
But, if you cant sing, why buy the mic controller in the first place anyway? :)

well the way the vox portion works is that it detects that your singing the correct lyric in the correct tone.
so with bands like dimmu borgir (i just like typing that name, shoot me) and other bands with foreign language songs, if you dont pronounce the crazy finnish word correctly then your screwed.
im just saying that this is a very easy to do solution.

I'm guessing there's an Edguy fan in the thread... just a wild guess there LavatoryLoveMachine :P.
and fragpirate's right... the mic's basically transferring your pronouncing over, rather than the pitch of the notes (this ain't singstar y'know? This'll actually be good... you can't advance by going "la la la la" into the mic... although saying that... depending on the song...).
Although saying that... I can nail Dragosta Din Tea (sp?) pretty well lyrically... I sound like ****, but word wise I'm pretty much spot on :D.

well its not all just lyric based, you DO have to have the correct tone and pitch

Well yeah, but I'm pretty sure they'll be more forgiving on that, in the sense that... if they're gonna be having a variation of styles... someone who's nailing Metallica, GNR's & Maiden, wouldn't really be expected to also nail stuff from say... Heart. lol At least not perfectly.

yeah, but either way back to the main topic of this post. it still wouldnt work for death metal bands.

the "****ty" thing made me think:
what will they do with songs that have strong lyrics?
in GH they could take out the specific spots, etc. but in RB you should be able to sing the original song.
maybe(probably not though) an M rating or something that says "downloadable content may contain strong lyrics" or something to that effect.
lorddavid
07-23-2007, 08:22 AM
If they include mature content, then it would have to come with a warning similar to that... if it doesn't have one, then they wont be including any mature content period, 'cause it could mean a lawsuit after some parents nab the song and find it wrong for little Johnny to be listening to.
What am I saying... most parents will get it and deliberately get the sweary ones anyway... most of 'em dun care these days, lol.

I thought you were gonna say they would get those and sue HMX if they didn't have a warning. but I agree, some parents don't care!

once again, the DLC can take care of this.
XBL has a child monitoring parental settings menu on the 360 dashboard. it lets parents set what sort of material children can access.
that includes downloadable content.
they can make a simple age gate or some other sort of easy, and fast age monitoring system to work with it.
like "enter age before download" or sumtin

whoa, maybe I'm wrong here, but the vocalist does NOT have to say the correct words, I sang Weird Al lyrics (Theme to Rocky XIII) over the real Eye of the Tiger lyrics, and got 98%, the game matches up sylables and number of words, it can't tell if you're singing 'Rye or the Kaiser' or 'Eye of the Tiger' (same sylables same amount of words, perfect match in the game)and there are already 2 songs in RB2 that have foreign language lyrics, and as far as Death Metal goes, they have no notes / pitch, so you could talk every word and save your voice. Bring on the Dimmu, bring on the Cannibal Corpse, bring on the Death Metal, it's not difficult at all (vocally)!!!

I'm all for excluding vocals on the day that we get a series of songs that exclude guitar. You see, I don't play guitar, therefore I don't see how it is important. </sarcasm>
