You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan armada. (http://datacore.sciflicks.com/the_last_starfighter/sounds/the_last_starfighter_greetings.wav)
Ya know, I really loved this movie when it first came out and I was like 10. It was on TV the other day, so I watched it. Hadn't seen it in probably 15 years.
And then it dawned on me...this movie is really cheesy. To the point of almost being bad. The dialogue is horrible, not to mention the acting!
I had a similar experience when I watched an episode of Thundercats back in college. Again, something I loved as a child, and then when older, realized it was really pretty bad.
Anybody had similar experiences with this or other movies, that you loved as a kid, and then watched later as an adult?
Maybe somebody should do a movie now about a kid who plays Rock Band who gets recruited to play for a real band. It would be like a combination of the movies Last Starfighter and Rock Star! Ok, bad idea, bad idea...:D

Yup, my favorite show growing up was the Dukes of Hazard. That show was the heat back in the day when I was like 6. Then they started reruns a few years back on CMT or something. My cousins and I were all psyched. After a week of it we all were amazed at how horrible the acting, editing, and effects were. Also, Voltron was frickin' awesome back then too. I came across an episode on tv a while back and had to watch it.....my God was it horrible.
And oh yeah, The Last Starfigher was pretty cool back then...I'll have to see it again. I kind of enjoy laughing at the stuff I thought was cool when I was younger.

Yep, same thing happened when I tried to watch some of the first few seasons of MacGyver. My favorite series when I was younger, but the dialogue is soooo bad.

That'll happen to you if you watch the original Battlestar Galactica, too. Also, do NOT even pick up the DVD box set of He-Man in the store or you'll be crushed.

Tron does not deserve to be in this list at all. It's classic. Speed Buggy & the old justice league cartoons are horrible looking back though. There's one that could top them all though.. Xanadu.. Yep, when you're 5 Olivia Netwon John on roller skates may be the best thing ever, but when you're over 30 well, not so much.
Oh and David, why not play starfighter?

How about some of the commercials we used to love 20-25 years ago? Remember the first 'Bud Bowl' during the Super Bowl? That was so cool back then...I know I wondered how they could make little bottles of beer wearing helmets run around and catch a football! Nowadays, my 12 year old could whip up something on the computer in about an hour!
These days, more money is spent for some 30 second commercials than was budgeted for a lot of feature length films 25 years ago.
Here's a few more you might remember:
"Where's the beef?"
"I'd like to buy the world a coke..."
"Big Mac, Filet-o-fish, Quarter Pounder, french fry, icy coke, thick shake, sundae, and apple pie"
Ah, the good old days!
