rock band states that downloadable content will be available every subsiquent week after its release.

but instead of albums...if possible, wouldnt it be better to just download greatest hits albums? you get the songs you want without the ones you dont...i dont know if they have planned for this. just thought i should throw it out there...

I think this would be a great idea. Greatest hits albums so you don't have to buy 5 albums for 10 songs, and they could release less albums since they could do this.

I think they are planning something kinda like this actually. Not a lot of albums are going to work for Rock Band from beginning to end. I think they're figuring out which ones would, and that people would want to play, such as Who's Next. Then for major bands that don't have an album that could be played from beginning to end, such as Metallica, then they're doing what they've called 'career spanning song lists'. So basically it will be like a greatest hits song pack of Metallica.

I'm curious as to just how often these albums and/or large song packs are going to hit DLC. They obviously won't be doing them every single week, but maybe monthly? With the weekly content updates just beeing a couple songs here and there?

I think that sounds about right. Most likely there will be small song packs weekly, with monthly album or large song packs released. I think about 12 albums in the year and around 90 or so songs is more than promising, and would be amazing.

As for greatest hits albums, that might be a good idea, although I think it would be better to just release good albums and then instead of greatest hits just release larger song pack from certain bands, with all their desirable songs.

God no!!!!

Greatest hits albums totally ruin the songs by removing them from their elements!! Albums are put together very carefully with a lot of regard for track order and flow. Greatest Hits packages destroy this flow by making everything hodgepodge! Besides, there are a million tracks that don't make it onto greatest hits albums that would be 100 times better for RB than those tracks that do. For example, you will not find "Ogre Battle" or "March of The Black Queen" on any Queen Greatest Hits album, but I would argue that they are at least 1000 times better for RB (and in general) than "We Will Rock You" or "We Are The Champions"

In a similar vein to the comment above about Queen... I agree that quite often the "greatest hits" don't necessarily have the tracks "I" want to play (As was said at the top).

In fact, there are some songs that I outright loath by bands, despite them being one of their best tracks ever.

We Are The Champions, being the prime example of that.

Greatest Hits albums are albums too, aren't they??? I always thought there may be Greatest Hits album for DLC. At least I hope so.

I really want THE CURE - Greatest Hits. ;)

I'm expecting some Greatest Hits Albums too... and I'll get most of them anyway (Unless I can't stand the song/band), 'cause you never know what sort of great tune that you'll get a chance to play that you'd not heard before.

I'll use Guns N' Roses as an example. My favorite GN'R songs aren't on the GN'R greatest hits album.

1: Garden of Eden.
2: Nightrain.

That's two off the top of my head. Those are also my two favorite GN'R songs.

Personally, my favourite GNR's song ever comes in the form of Estranged... such an amazing song.

Precisely Teh Jakester and Lorddavid. Greatest hits does not always turn directly into best songs.

Often the best technical stuff, the kind of things that would be best for RB, are often overlooked for the biggest sellers.

The only problem with that is that Joe Public doesn't care about the technical side of things and only looks for catchy tunes. This is obvious by the stuff that comes out as singles, is released on greatest hits compilations and is played on the radio.

Anyways, I'm hoping they don't do it this way, as that will overlook MANY great songs.

I think it would be great if they allowed you to make your own custom album for each band. You could search the albums for the band and compile the songs together to make one great album that you're satisfied with. It would almost be like burning a cd.
