Will Rockband users be able to cross platform for online experience, I would think if they kept the same structure for the net code they would be able to achieve this. I mean, perhaps a few of your friends have a PS3 and they want to play in a band together with you. Are we able to do so, or are we limited to our own platform?

Yo, that's a good question, never thought about that...

No. That would require MS and Sony to cooperate. It's beyond EA or Harmonix.

Simply put no, no, and no a thousand fold.

Why would EA and Harmonix have to cooperate? I mean, all Harmonix has to do is centralize their netcode, have each platform connect to their actual servers.

I mean for example:

MAC and WINDOWS, LINUX two totally different platforms. You can easily play games with each other, for example (Battlefield 192) It's all about making standard for the connection.

but yeah, I'm sure they are some sort controversy issue that I have no idea about hehe

1. It's MS and Sony who'd have to come together.

2. XBL requires devs to use their servers and resources strictly for XBL. I don't know Sony's policy. It's that way for almost any 360 integration (XBL, peripherals, etc.).

Harmonix discussed this in last weeks Xfire chat.

What I don't get is how Square got around that policy.

That really sucks, could you imagine the community size if they were collaborated?

Sean already said this couldn't happen for a few reason.

simply put, XBL uses Microsoft's servers...
Harmonix has nothing to do with setting up servers, they just make the gamework with the XBL servers...

I don't know how Sony works it's online part... but i know that if RB was to be cross-platform online compatible... then MS would defnitely have some say in the matter...
i'm sure MS doesn't want PS3 players on thier servers...

It wont happen as Xbox live is closed to anyone but Microsoft it's their servers only they wont allow any one else to add to it.. Sony on the other hand allow Publishers / devs to add and run their own servers on the network in fact they encourage it with only the store being totally Sony run.

I believe it is because square ran their game through their own servers, while Rock Band will be run through both sony and microsoft. At least I think that what it is.
