For all you real drummers out there...

Would a right handed person hit the bass pedal with the right or left foot?

I know in basketball a right handed person jumps off his left foot, so I figured I better ask before I start developing an incorrect technique...

I am a righty and use the right foot, but it's really just what works better for you.

Of course you always would proably want to use whatever side you are best at by default, thats why these sorts of games come with lefty filp options!

it depends on the person like cool said. Sum prefer left and sum prefer right. U'll have to make that decision on ur own.

The question was for real drummers, per the original poster. Are you a lefty or a righty and what foot do you use on real drums?

Well, I do own a real drum kit and when I actually do drum for real, I use the right foot as well.

Hey salty, like coolcool23 I as well am a drummer and thanks to cool again for letting me know there's a lefty flip for the drums because I am a lefty drummer. If you are comfy with using your right foot on the kick (bass) pedal then you are naturally a right handed drummer. If you are comfy with using your left foot then like myself, you are a natural left handed drummer.

Hope we both cleared it up for ya

well, on a real drum set, both of your feet would be doing something. one foot would be one the bass pedal and the other would on the hi-hat (unless you have double bass pedal or something else). so if you are a righty then you would use your right foot on the bass pedal. but thats only from a real life drummer's perspective. for the game you should do what feels right for you. hope that helps :D.

have u ever played soccer....? are u right footed? even MOST lefties use their right foot. its just where the bass drum is on a real set.(i said most bc not all but the majority)

I personally think of "righty" and "Lefty" as ways of setting up a kit, namely which side you put your snare and hi-hat on. A "righty" set would involve the snare and hi-hat being on the left and playing your kick with your right foot. A "lefty" set would be the opposite.

In terms of "handedness", you can play open or close handed in either configuration and make either hand dominant.

But to reiterate: right hand dominant matches right foot 99% of the time.

Bottom line is, on a real set your not going to set up the bass on your left foot and the hi-hat on your right. It just dosent work out.... that means you would have to play the snare with your right and hi-hat with your left. It's totally reversed and would be awful. The ride cymbal would be on the left and yuck.....

Unless you:

A. Played open-handed and moved the ride to crash position on the right OR
B. used a slave pedal extension or something.

but you should play bass drum with your lead foot. If you're right-handed and you want to learn real drums, learning RB drums with right foot on bass will make the switch much easier. (coming from a drummer of 8 years)

Well said, just I've never seen a set set-up like that (coming from a drummer of 8 years also) I'd spaz out or something. lol

You've never seen a drum kit set up for a lefty drummer? :)

I remember going to an open mic a few years ago where the house drummer was lefty. When I went up to play a few songs, I felt like a complete idiot cause I couldn't play on that setup worth a damn!

I play real drums and have a real set........I am wierd in the drum world and play left handed on a right handed set. Thus making my left hand my lead hand but my right foot my lead foot.

NORMALLY the drummer is right hand lead and right foot lead but you can be wierd and play like me and that be just fine too.

I can play a left handed drum set also pretty well. My left foot isent to weak it just dont feel natural playing single pedal with my left foot lead.
