Im having trouble playing LRB on 'Hard' mode so I was checking out this forum in search of some tips and I came across the phrases 'Hammer ons' and 'Pull offs'.
From what I can understand, you can strum once and use the fret buttons only at certain times during a song.
Can someone please give details on how this works for a confused newbie.
TIA

HOPOs (hammer-ons and pull-offs) are those smaller notes you see in Rock Band. To play a HOPO, you can either strum the larger note and simply hold down the color of the smaller note (as it passes through the timing window, not before), or play both as if they were normal notes. You won't be penalized for strumming them.
The trainers in the game already give detailed descriptions on HOPOs.

I am playing 'Lego Rock Band'. Does this game have the same feature as I havent come across it yet in training mode, but I admit that I havent gone through all the training yet.

It's usually detailed in the last guitar training mode. I don't have Lego, so I'm not sure if that still applies.

all music games have hammer ons and pull offs. All you do is strum the bigger notes and don't strum the smaller notes.
Ex: first note is green. It's a big note because it's the first one. Then after it comes a red smaller note. If you hit the green one you don't have to strum the red one. The next note coming is yellow and it's a hammer on too. But lets say you miss it. Now a blue small note comes and you have to strum it because you missed the yellow note.
Hammer ons and pull offs(ho/pos) don't always come in that order it could be anything like orange to green pull off or green, red, yellow hammer on then a pull off to red...etc.

If it's a small note, you don't have to strum if you've hit the note before it. If it's a long line of HOPOs, you can do it all without strumming (other than the first note) as long as you don't miss any notes.

In Lego, it's easy to tell the HO/POs from the regular notes because the HO/PO notes only have one little nub on top, as opposed to regular notes, which have two.
Also, HO/POs are not uncommon in medium, though usually unnecessary. I've even seen one or two in easy.

Simply, you strum a large note (notes with two studs), then you can just press the smaller notes (the notes with only one stud) just with the corresponding fret button following it.
Also you can also hold down a lower fret button while struming on a higher fret button (except with chords).
eg. If I am struming while holding the blue fret button with my second finger, I can hold down the red fret with my first finger until a note that is lower than red.
