Practice stuck at 50% speed? What gives?

Hi all...
Strange problem I'm having here...
Regardless of what I pick for a song to practice with, with any instrument, the play happens at 50% speed. Easy, Hard, Expert, Full song or not, I want to play at 100% full speed, and stil... it plays at 50%. At the top left of the screen is the picture of the directional button, and the 50% number, yet the directional button does nothing to change the speed during practice play. I press the button in a certain direction and it flashes to 60% for a millisecond but then bounces back to the 50% it's stuck at. This is really frustrating.

I'm at a loss as to what to do. All other play happens at full speed, it's only happening in practice mode.

Things I've tried:
taking the game out, putting it back in (I get read errors sometimes for a brand new clean unscratched disc... go figure).
shutting down the console and restarting
looking for updates
plugging in different instruments in different ports
changing users/gamertags
changing profiles, players, instruments.
STILL STUCK WITH 50% playback in practice.
one thing left to try... play a different game on the console and then go back and play rockband, if that does it I'll let you know.

Meanwhile...

I hope someone's got some help for me. I like to practice and it's pain to be stuck on 50%.

Silly Me.

I did not realize that the Dance Dance Revolution pad, also connected to the XBOX, was folded over and sitting in the corner pressing up against itself. I unplugged it and all is well.

And so it goes.
