Yesterday while driving to the mall I had a massive brainstorm. I remembered an album I owned called "Saturday Morning: Cartoon's Greatest Hits," an album entirely of music derived from cartoons and Sid & Marty Kroft produced live-action material, all performed by alternative rock groups and a few bands of an older vintage that were still hardly mainstream.

So what I'm proposing isn't a straight album download, a three pack, or even a few individual songs. Instead, a full on game expansion. Picture this: Harmonix gets the rights to six songs, let's say...

"Scooby Doo, Where Are You?" by Matthew Sweet
"Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah (Means I Love You)" (from the Jetsons) by Violent Femmes
"Tra-La-La (Theme from the Banana Splits)" by Liz Phair and Material Issue
Either "Hong Kong Phooey" by Sublime
"Theme from Johnny Quest/Stop That Pigeon!" by Reverend Horton Heat
"H.R. Puffenstuff" by The Murmers

Obviously your milage may vary based on musical taste and personal level of nostalgia, but hey! Go look at the song list right here! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday_Morning) There's bound to be something you'd like better!

Now, with that done, let's say Harmonix partners up with the people at Hanna-Barbera, the Krofts, and whoever else made the shows represented by the songs, and gets the rights to the characters for use as artwork, tattoos, and stickers for instruments. Maybe even entire outfit pieces inspired by the shows, or, dare I say it, new venues also inspired by the shows! Can you imagine what the Harmonix team could do with the designs from the Kroft shows? Or a haunted mansion inspired by the Scooby-Doo material?

Blammo! Instantly you have a pack of songs that's family friendly, nostalgia friendly, alternative music fans would dig, would include a couple new female vocals, and so on. And on top of that, a ton of other new content.

What say you?
