Hey gang,

Sorry for not posting this response sooner, but nearly the entire Community / PR team is showing off RB3 and Dance Central at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany.

So in the last day or two there's been a lot of speculation about a supposedly "leaked" Rock Band 3 set list. As with all rumors, it's all worth taking with a grain of salt, and I think for the most part you guys in the community know not to believe anything until you see it officially confirmed by us.

Here is our video response (http://bit.ly/a7gNhy), the OFFICIAL reaction, to this "leak" that surfaced the other day. Please check it out and let us know what you think.

To help stem the continued flow of misinformation please spread the news by cross posting the above link to Twitter and Facebook. We're just a few fans away from hitting 500,000 followers on Facebook, at which point we'll release an exclusive RB3 trailer. Thanks in advance for helping to spread CORRECT info about Rock Band 3.

-HMXhenry

Yes. Suprising lack of Radiohead as well.

Oh god, I would love more Radiohead so much more than almost anything else. But It's too strange we didnt have anything since Rb1 and GH never had any Radiohead to begin with.

I have the bad feeling that there are licensing problems... :(

That was soo hilarious!!!! You guys are awesome!!! Thanks for starting my day off with a laugh. I wonder what will you guys do for the RB2 export "announcement" (or "leak" if there is one), since that's the only other set list news were waiting for you to "not confirm" Ha Ha Ha Ha.

Dave ghrol is in two songs already. I would not be surprised if we would get a huge foo dlc pack right when rb3 launches because the guitar is alot of power chords so it would be great for pro guitar.

On the other hand thank you Harmonix you are my heroes

To Henry...John... and all the rest of you at Harmonix...

I seriously can't tell you how grateful I am that you chose to do the right thing and address these horrible rumors directly and with forthright honesty. It speaks so highly of a company that you would be willing to stand out in front of your customer base and handle these rumors head-on. There just aren't many others out there who would handle this with such dignity, class and grace.

....

Oh, and your collective awesomeness in this video totally owns my soul, now. :-) Well played, and thank you!

So the gaming blogs that were purporting to have the set list for RB3 were only doing so to score Advertiser revenue? Not because RB has millions of fans dying to know what's going to be shipped w/ RB3? And if all they care about is money, wouldn't they be able to say the same about Harmonix? You’re in the business to make money too aren't you?

So I'm thinking that though gaming blogs look for breaking news and all want to be the first, I doubt it's all about money. They are usually hard core gamers who live, eat, breath games and gaming news.

I am not sure slamming the blogs that released the purported list was a good thing. They too are gamers and are potential customers. As are their loyal reader base. You might have lost some sales there.

And no, I am not associated in any way with any site, let alone sites that released the purported set list. Just a fan of Rock Band since the beginning….and was a little turned off by your video statement. You could have turned this into a GREAT social networking crush and had millions still talking about it. Instead, you choose to bash the sites that reported on the leaked list. Wow, you had the potential for millions in free advertising and to keep people guessing… somebody in your company needs to re-think your strategies.

Thank you HMX for putting together a setlist that really seems to cater to the "old guys" out there. With so much of the list being comprised of the great rock and roll that I grew up listening to, I know I'm going to have a blast with this game. Playing me some Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Lennon, STP, and now The Doobie Brothers. You have officially put an "X" in my signature, which gives me hope that some day down the line I'll get to put more in there. :D

Did you end up liking any songs you didn't know before, from the on-disc tracks we have now? I know I did. Consider it an investment to potentially discover new music (and learn how to play it, too!), with a few awesome definites as icing on the cake.

Wow, I don’t know a single song except for the one from Paramore.

If the career mode is impressive (so far none of the Rock Bands had a good career mode, don’t get me wrong) and if the toms are differentiated (I know this will already be a feature) and if the piano is well implemented, I might buy it.

Otherwise, the list of songs I’ve seen doesn’t impress me. I’m only asking for Rock or anything close in a game like Rock Band, seems like it’s too much to ask.

Green Day Rock Band was awesome, but once again, the career mode was weak. Don’t just make me play songs and unlock other songs and venues and setlists. This gets boring as hell. Or at least design some real existing venues from a few countries, give me a home with a house with people to call to decide stuff related to the band or something. What I want is something graphical, in 3D, not a simple menu. Spore failed because of that same reason. GH is’t much better, so there’s room for Harmonix to innovate. Take the chance.

-HMXhenry

Asked you in the Morning if I can play Walk of Life. You said something like "I didnt know that we have Walk of Life in RB3", and now you confirmed it, but Im not at Gamescom anymore. :(

Love the announcement! Very funny.

As far as the setlist, I went through the rumored setlist, and here is my take:

There are 28 songs I just don't know, although I know a couple of those bands, my feelings on those are mixed enough that I won't chalk the individual songs up to like or don't like.

There are only two songs I hate: Amy Winehouse and the White Stripes.

5 songs I don't like, and will skip over them as much as possible, but won't make me want to turn off the game because I hate them (The Cure, Marylin Manson, Queens of the Stone Age, Rammstein, and the Smiths)

Another 6 I don't like, but am willing to concede that they could be fun, and will give them a legit shot. (B52s, Beach Boys, Bob Marley, Devo, James Brown, and Phish)

23 songs I like, and will be happy to play.

19 Songs I love, and am pumped they are in the game. (Anthrax, Big Country, Deep Purple, Def Leppard, Dio, Dire Straits, Doobie Brothers, Golden Earring, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Huey Lewis, J. Giles, Night Ranger, Ozzy, Police, Queen, Space Hog, Tears for Fears, Whitesnake, and Yes)

That's a pretty good ratio for me....I am happy with the set-list.

Would like to believe I had some influence on this song being in the game as I carried the flag on my sig. and in my profile as well as personally emailing HMX Sean for this to be in RB2 before its release. In fact I lobbied for this song to be the theme song(instead of Cheap Trick's "Hello There")for RB2 as it would have been a good one also.
All my hoopla for this song probably has nothing to do with its inclusion, but its nice to see it finally make it.

When you *just* listen to alternative/indie/college rock, that doesn't make it a "diverse" selection of music that you listen to; that's just modern underground music elitism. Still no different than the headbangers who put their blinders (earplugs?) on to any music that isn't metal. Music snobbery in any form is still music snobbery.

Me, too. It is nice to find that the songs I *know* on the setlist are good ones... Now, I have to actually go *listen* to the other 70+ songs and see what I think. I wish there could have been more older, classic stuff that would've triggered the insta-buy feeling, but that's just not where I am with RB3's setlist...and I'm still wondering what features they've chosen to omit from the wii version of RB3. And it stinks that there's going to be no more DLC for RB2 after the RB3 release...

Expand your musical horizons. Seriously.

Also, wtfhmxnomusewtfareyouthinkingrb3sucks! In all seriousness, though, awesome setlist. 9\10.

In all honesty, I have over 200 artists in my iTunes library that I listen to regularly and there’s music for over 30 genres (iTunes lists 100 genres, but it’s because the playlist is screwed up a bit lol). Not just pop/punk/rock, I’ve got french music, rap, metal, nu metal, comedy, alternative, emo, hip hop, instrumental from games and movies, etc.

So that’s the sad thing. I’m far from being music ignorant, and there isn’t a lot in RB3 that makes me wanna throw myself on it. It’s not going to be the setlist that will make me buy it. It’s gonna be the game itself, the career mode, etc. Because songs? I’ve got them, I have RB1 and 2, GD:RB, and like 150 DLCs.

On the same note, after reading a few comments here, I’ve looked at the list more carefully, and there ARE a few songs I know and recognize by sound, but they just won’t push me to buy it.

Also, can’t believe there’s still no Coldplay and U2. These guys are big. Not my favorites, but they are big. To all the fans out there, I wish you these bands. Personally, I’d like The Fray and more The Killers, but that’s going to be in a long long time. (I believe U2 is too expensive... damn Bono. And Coldplay must be fine because GH’s got one).

Amazing setlist.
I just missed a J-rock song and at least one from Dream Theater.

Dream Theater would be probably too hard on pro instruments for starters, they should get some DLC soon I hope. On the other hand I'm very happy that J-Rock didn't make it on disk, because if they sing in English, their pronounciation is horrible, and if it's in Japanese the differing letters would make it impossible to read the lyrics for 95%+ of all RB players.

There should definitely be some J-Rock DLC for the variety, but not on disk ;)

When you *just* listen to alternative/indie/college rock, that doesn't make it a "diverse" selection of music that you listen to; that's just modern underground music elitism. Still no different than the headbangers who put their blinders (earplugs?) on to any music that isn't metal. Music snobbery in any form is still music snobbery.

Really? Because it seems you only like alt\indie. That's nowhere near "diverse".

I do listen to a lot of alt/indie.
I also listen to a lot of The Living End, Eskimo Joe, Billy Talent, Midnight Oil, Pearl Jam, Wolfmother, Iron Maiden, Metallica, System of a Down, The Butterfly Effect, Jet, The Presets, Gorillaz, Klaxons, Velvet Revolver, Disturbed, Bullet For My Valentine, Karnivool, blink-182, My Chemical Romance, The Prodigy, Cog, The Offspring, NOFX and Rise Against, just to name a few others that I'd love to play which aren't alt/indie and aren't in RB3 either.

I am late to this party, but WHAT A PARTY!!!!!

I must admit, I shed a tear of joy when I saw -
Big Country - In a Big Country

I have been here a good long time and Big Country is the only band I have ever truly wanted in the game. Thanx for everything Harmonix!

Just for kicks, what song didn't you like, if you're willing to tell? :D

I'm German, so obviously Tokio Hotel. I even played it at gamescom, and it sounds just as lame as expected. I know that there are worse bands out there, but to see them and Rammstein representing Germany in an international video game masterpiece makes me sick. Tokio Hotel are only listened by teens and Rammstein is only interesting because of the Nazi-style "singing" and the indeed mind-blowing pyro-show live. Nobody listens to both of them because of their musical talents.

Without Tokio Hotel the setlist would've been A+++ for me, with them just A, it's that poor :(

Still a day one purchase for me :D

On the other hand I'm very happy that J-Rock didn't make it on disk, because if they sing in English, their pronounciation is horrible, and if it's in Japanese the differing letters would make it impossible to read the lyrics for 95%+ of all RB players.

There should definitely be some J-Rock DLC for the variety, but not on disk ;)

I'm assuming Pankrazzo was actually referring Romanji, because even Romanji has unintuitive rules of pronunciation that would tie most people's tongues in knots.

Well, if this announcement is here so we can all give our "vote" on the set-list...

Thumbs down from me.

There are about 18 songs I recognize by name. I listened to everything... there's maybe 5 more I'd care to hear again. So 23 songs out of 83 is disappointing, especially after I liked more than 1/2 of both RB1 and RB2 when they came out.

Since I'm not interested in Pro mode... or the keyboard...

I'm just not sure RB3 is going to be on my list of "must haves" this year. Which is a shame... I'm almost $2,000 into my RB hobby... :(

Excellent set list.

Almost half of the songs fall into the OMFG range for me, more than in RB2.

I was really hoping for Uprising, since it's in GH6, but I guess I'll get it when the Muse DLC pack is released. Right?

There are plenty of songs I predicted / hoped would make the cut that didn't, but I'm happy with the overall package.

My only real complaint: Burning Down The House is being offered as a pre-order bonus (GameStop) instead of being on the disc. Must play that on drums, but I'm not getting RB3 from GameStop.

though there definately alot of really good songs, i'm really shocked at the lack of others.

Ok Metallica...thats sort of understandable depending on the agreement they made with GH, but this will be the first rockband game without them....and other artists who have appeared in GH games are in rockband now also (ozzy...) this game should have had master of puppets or welcome home sanitarium.

Whats the issue with Guns and Roses. I mean seriousy. The original Demo for Rockband 1 had welcome to the jungle....it was never put in the game. We get the crap chinese democracy album and nothing else? Look at all the work axl has done with piano's....this should have been a no brainer. I'd rather have november rain then nothing...

i'm not sure if you've heard of this band harmonix, they are called rolling stones. They made alot more songs then gimme shelter

and my god rockband. Pink Floyd.....or at least Roger Waters - The Wall Live should not even be a question!!! I mean roger waters is touring the world doing "The Wall" at the same time as the game is released. Talk about your missed oppertunities for Cross Promotion. He's advertising on facebook. he's trying to reach the young demographic. I'm sure you guys could have easily worked out a deal, put comfortably numb in the game, and released a The Wall Special Edition with special packaging some bs extra's like a picture or some crap, and had a code to download the full album as DLC, (which would be released at the same time or delayed for everyone else to download). maybe even released special instruments. We all know you guys like to milk the special edition. Use the hype of the wall tour to sell rockband 3.....use rockband 3 to expose the music to a new generation and sell concert tickets. I got a new word for ya.....synergy....

but hey, at least we get song number 9 by band x, and song 15 by band y, and this and that song from guitar hero 2 that we've played already millions of times...........will the key structures even be any different???

I really feel they could have put some more effort into this song list.........they should ****ing have pink floyd...the fifth highest selling album of all time...the wall....deserves something more then just an regular dlc album release, not a full game release, but something special like i stated....especially when its being performed in its first real world tour, 30 years after its release...which is at the same time that this game comes out!!!!!

Personally, I think 'Uprising' is very much overrated. Muse have much better songs. All exclusive pre-order DLC will eventually come to the store for everyone to enjoy (or rage). It may even be launch DLC, simply free to those who pre-order.

Metallica is not tied to Guitar Hero at all. There was a rumour a few weeks ago that the entirety of Master of Puppets album would come to Rock Band. If so, it would have to come after RB3's release, don't you think? There may be more Metallica eventually.

Pink Floyd is something else. Have you visited the forums the past year? You would know then, that Roger Waters doesn't want anything to do with Rock Band (correct me if I'm wrong). Many people are hoping he will change his mind now, with Pro Mode and all, but all we can do is wait and hope.

Similar things happen with Led Zeppelin.

You guys had me sold at Huey Lewis and the News and then you throw in Mana. Man I nearly choked on my bummy bears when I read that. I was always pleased with the range you would give us in new iterations of the game but this is by far the most excited I have been for a bit. If I can get some more Mana and a larger selection of 80's tunes I will be in bliss but this is certainly getting me on my way there. Thank you!

..............the anger runs strong in this one......

...so does the lack of understanding the difficulty of licensing certain artists. It's not like Pink Floyd has been bothering Harmonix for months to get their music into RB3, and Harmonix said, "No, we'd rather have some Iranian band (Hypernova) instead."

I like the overall variety in origin/location and difficulty in the Setlist.

I think it represents a good starting point in RB's forward goal of more international focused content.

I do like the way you guys approach everything in your announcements Harmonix, never afraid to go in a different direction to give us something else to talk about.

Now as for my opinion on this setlist.

There are some songs that i've been craving for a long time finally making their way to the platform of choice (IMO of course), while other songs just leave me scratching my head as to how they make a good choice for this particular platform at all (mostly looking at Amy Winehouse personally, but hey that might be just me). I know i'll be shelling out the money for the game and the guitar, eventually the keyboard if i feel so inclined to do so, but this will refresh a game that is still a blast for me to play. All and all, i just can't wait to get my hands on this game, at least i have found someone else that has a common interest in this game in my area that i can actually jam with for awhile so i'm sure we'll both get tons of enjoyment out of this bad boy.

Thank you Harmonix.... oh and lookit i'm posting in announcements!!! SWEETNESS!

I second November Rain. AWESOME song.

In the end we might have some surprises for after RB 3 comes out...who knows if they are saving some of these for DL or something after the release. Could be that they want strong stuff to back up the game later, since all DLC is going to be used in RB 3 from here on out.

Interesting story on one of RB3's tracks - "Outer Space" by The Muffs.

I'm assuming this is not "spoiler" info - but the RB3 track will NOT be the album version featured on 1997's Happy Birthday to Me.

Apparently, the HMX team spent some time trying to track down the masters for this one. Turns out Warner Bros "misplaced" them some years back w/o the band's knowledge. Seems that the masters were checked out of the WB vault to be used for the soundtrack for the film "Father's Day"....and never returned.

HMX seemingly wanted this song in RB3 bad enough that Muffs leader Kim Shattuck went & re-recorded the guitar, bass & vocal parts. She then pasted those tracks onto an existing drum track for the next Muffs record that roughly matched or could be easily edited to fit Outer Space.

So, how do I know this? I know Muffs/Redd Kross drummer Roy McDonald personally, due to the fact that his wife is a decades-long close friend of mine. Roy's wife posted a link to this "leaked" track list on her Facebook page last weekend. Later, we got to talking about how this version of Outer Space ended up in RB3.

I also suggested to Kim Shattuck that she should issue a "Rock Band 3 Mix" of Outer Space as an iTunes single or something. And I am due royalties for the idea, I think. ;)

So yeah - I know a RB3 artist.

Fixd. I'd prefer RTL or KEA myself. I love MoP and AJFA, and I like TBA too, and they're obviously more popular, but their first two albums are much more thrash oriented. Though I would be very happy to get Sandman back, complete with pro mode (would be a great song for beginning pro guitarists, though the solo might prove a little challenging).

All right. You know, I've already e-mail HMX about this, never got a response. Nobody likes to be a stick in the mud, but honestly, I hate this setlist. I really dislike the large majority of the music to be found here. There are two songs that would have made this game a must-buy for me, but now? I don't know.

The first one has been addressed a few times, and that's November Rain. ...really? No November Rain to coincide with the introduction of keyboards to Rock Band 3?

The other one was quasi-approached, but never named. Rise of the Six-String had the right idea when they pulled Layla by Derek and the Dominoes. Eric Clapton, being one of the greatest guitarists of our time, and the piano solo in that song, but it was still overlooked? No, instead of that, we have to deal with Amy Winehouse, Slipknot, and the White Stripes.

I like Queen and the Riverboat Gamblers though. Thanks for that.

You e-mailed Harmonix because you didn't like the setlist? How old are you?

Also, Eric Clapton signed exclusively with Power Gig, so there's your answer for that one.
