I don't know if it is just me but in the beginning the songs were rockin but as thr game progresses the songs tend to go from awsome to suck.... they need more of the songs that people have herd before.....even if they are old bands or songs.... rock band is not for new upcomming artists that suck.... you would think that they would have put togeather a better selection of songs.. put more songs or even bands that people know...

So people don't know: Rush, Boston, The Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith? Those are just from the last two tiers and they are stacked with popular bands.

NEW DLC just announced this morning...YAY!!!!
Harmonix and MTV have released more Rock Band DLC onto the 360's marketplace, so as to better equip you for any virtual rocking you may wish to partake in on your day off. It's not the strongest offering, however, with Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Gimme Three Steps" the only original track. "Hard to Handle" by the Black Crowes, and Rush's "Limelight" round out the selection, but are "as made famous by" cover versions. Shame. Oh, and guys, the constant updates are great, thanks, but we're still waiting on those promised album downloads.
here are the links to check it out....

You have to realize that there's tons of people (myself and almost everyone I know included) that would much prefer newer music to older music. Aerosmith? Vomit! GnR? Hate it. Boston? Please God, no. The Who? TERRIBLE.
So keep it up, Harmonix! More Garbage & RHCP! Less Molly Hatchet!
P.S. Rush is an exception. Rush is always welcome.

And for that reason, HMX has been packaging songs separately so that you can pick and choose what you want. Everyones musical tastes are different, what you hate, I might love and vice versa.
So far, I think HMX has been doing a good job of covering all genres.

Pigeonholing someone for their likes or dislikes in music is more likely to make me feel as someone has lost credibility than their dislike of a classic rock band.
I like The Who just fine, but did you ever see "Tommy"? I find that show terrible.
However, I do love Boston... why would you not want to rock out to "More Than A Feeling"? Didn't you love it in the first GH? Imagine singing it and being scored for it (since you were probably singing along in GH anwyay)? :P
I want to see some Poison in here too.

Call me greedy: I want my Yes, Genesis and KC along WITH the Who.
Though I'd probably be happier with the KC stuff in the Discipline era.

Ah, but it wasn't just one classic rock band he went after--he took on the whole of that generation, and topped it off by calling one of the great rock anthems of all time "TERRIBLE."
Think less of me if you like, but that's just beyond the pale, to me.

There are alot of songs that should be in rock band, but the thing is trying to add more songs without kicking out a different genre. While I myself would prefer more classic rock than almost any contemporary, but that doesn't make me right. We all have different tastes and HMX does their best to cater to everybodies desires. Be patient, when we talk, they listen, so rest assured that your favorites will come in good time.

I think that people should open their musical ears a bit more. Here's some advice for everyone, maybe you should actually listen to the words of the chorus for "Limelight" by Rush...
Living in the Limelight,
The universal dream
For those who wish to seem.
Those who wish to be
Must put aside the alienation,
Get on with the fascination,
The real relation,
The underlying theme.
The underlying theme here is rock and roll people. I'm 34 years old and have quite the variety of musical taste (from The Beatles to Pantera to Coheed and Cambria). I think more people should appreciate all that is ROCK AND ROLL. Stop the *****ing about "new" is better than "old" and vice versa. There is something to be appreciated in each generation of rock. Without the old stuff, the new stuff would be nowhere to be found. And without the new stuff, rock and roll would die. Everyone needs to put aside the alienation and come together as one. LONG LIVE ROCK 'N ROLL!!!

So... Aerosmith, GnR, and the Who are terrible.... but you want more Garbage?!
What're you high or something?!?
Are you Shirley Manson? You've got to be Shirley Manson. Otherwise I can't see any justifiable reason for taking an average 90s rock band over bands who've made rock n roll what it IS. What next, you'd rather have them get the rights to Deep Blue Something instead of AC/DC?!?!?
incredible.

I think that people should open their musical ears a bit more.
No doubt. A lot of people have such narrow views of what is good music.
I enjoy all genres of music and can't think of any particular song in RB that I won't play. At first I didn't like Cherry Bomb, but the more I've played it the more it's grown on me.
Give some other genres a chance, you might be surprised. I myself couldn't stand listening to one type of music because then you get things like Linkin Park, Trapt, Nickelback, etc.. the stuff just starts to sound the same. It's nice to throw in some rap, country, blues, pop in there.
As for the person that said the Who was terrible. I can appreciate you not liking them, everyone has their opinion. I do hope that people understand the significance of The Who on rock 'n roll and how everything since has been influenced by what they've done (and others of that era as well). :D

Ok, I was about to agree with you that AC/DC would be the better choice but I just kicked on my copy of Home and decided the DBS stuff would be far more interesting for an entire band than AC/DC. Don't get me wrong I would go in to some AC/DC but Lets not knock the idea of DBS being in RB.

don't get me wrong, i have a seriously wide and deep appreciation of literally every genre of music... but that being said, there are certain bands that are pretty universally accepted as standard bearers for rock n' roll.... and this guy managed to attack 3 of the big ones (aerosmith, GnR, the Who) in one fell swoop. I've heard of people not being "into" the Who, or people who "weren't big one" Aerosmith, but I've never heard someone say they thought they were terrible.
They're legends for christ's sake. It's like saying Hendrix was too sloppy for your taste, or that EVH did too much of that tapping stuff. I don't know man... it just ripped a little bit of my faith in humanity out.

AC/DC had hard-hitting vocals, kick-ass drum beats, searing guitar... what's not to love?
I wasn't targeting DBS in particular... I just think that there are certain bands that will unequivocally rock the pants off of this game (metaphorically speaking). ACDC, Led Zepp, etc.

This game is about saturation bombing rock music and every type they can on people. Thats why the game was so challenging to me. I didn't know a bunch of these songs because I tend to stick with bands/people I grew up listening to. Every once in a while I dig into a new band but more often than not I find alot of stuff easy to live without hearing ever again.
GET ME HOT FOR TEACHER BY VAN HALEN - HELL, GET ME THE BIG 3 FROM 1984. (HFT, JUMP, PANAMA)
Should we get some AC/DC, get us some old Bon Scott stuff like T.N.T and Dirty Deeds along with anything from the Back in Black album.
I've had alot of ladies ask where Heart is on here. Come on...Barracuda? - IT WOULD ROCK!
and..my god..wheres the CREED?
(not really, though I had a girl at a party during the holidays ask about them)
and because I didn't want to break any of the Rock Band Forum rules I did not laugh at/or slap some sense into her.

Again, don't get me wrong I would purchase ever AC/DC DLC that comes out, but I don't think they would be as fun for the whole bands as many other artists, and would not put them at the top of my must haves. Zeppelin is a much better choice, but there are still plenty of modern bands I would prefer the effort being spent of, if they really are as difficult to license as I have heard. i would hate to see bands like DBS or, better yet, Fair to Midland, get passed over because all the resources were put into AC/DC or Led Zeppelin.

I have found myself analyzing most songs that I hear now with a "would this work on rock band" ear. I have been forced to admit that a lot of my favorite music would not work in this format. If the focus is on one band member for instance and the other parts are to mellow then it would be boring for all but one person. Or if there's a main instrument (like piano) that's not in rock band as of yet then it would not work well. I've started listening to songs and saying "wow that would be fun to play" rather than "this is a great song"
On that note: Boston - Peace of Mind would work perfectly. Check it out on you tube. And Rage Against the Machine would be cool but probably wouldn't work. To bad :(
^ my two cents anyway. Please take with a grain of salt :P

I myself would have to say that I like all of Aerosmith, Select songs of GnR, and I honestly don't like the Who eventhough they are a good band.
I'm not a big fan of AC/DC and would rather have DBS.
I tend to like the Cross Generational bands better such as The Beatles, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Genesis/Phil Collins, REM, U2, Elvis, Pink Flyod, etc etc, which are universally accepted by almost everyone.
Bands like The Who, Black Sabbath, The Doors, ZZ Top, Boston, CCR, The Police, The Eagles, etc etc are bands that I listen to, but not everyone likes them or only likes a few select songs. They tend to be listened more by people that grew up in that generation or had parents that played them over and over again until the liked them since it is was they were used to hearing all the time..
Another reason of why some younger kids don't tend to like the older music is because of the recording differences. The older music tends to sound more flat on the radio than the newer stuff which tends to have better clarity and seems more crisp, just like the music from the 50s sounds even more flat and distored so being that recording equipment has improved over time. This does become somewhat noticeable and can get annoying depending on the person's mood. I've been told a few times it sounds crappy and to change the station and they said the reason was the way it sounds, not that the bands themselves are bad or the song lyrics are bad. I myself noticed the sound difference on the radio.
Also it works the opposite way with the older generation not like the way the newer songs use added sound effects in the songs making it less appealing to some.
I listen to everything except Country and Hardcore Rap. I even listen to music from other countries around the globe and all the way back to classical.
I just want the game to be as diverse as possible and not just be a narrow game sticking to one type of Genre which is why I'm liking the way the DLC is going so far.

I think you've identified the common denominator there - these bands all have a certain sound. I'm not discounting the skill of the musicians or their musical impact, I just don't want to listen to their music.
It's not just about decade, either. There isn't a single Aerosmith song I like, from 1970-2007, whereas I like pretty much every Police song ever written. It's just how a band sounds.
Anyway, don't misunderstand my post - there's tons of people that love classic rock songs, and I'm sure Harmonix will be releasing plenty more of them. The OP basically said "why doesn't Harmonix just release the good songs that everyone likes", and I figured I'd explain why - there are people out there like me that dislike everything the OP likes.

I wish they'd put some Ween in the game. That would be sweet. How about The Flaming Lips or The Meat Puppets. I can appreciate the Classic stuff, and the Metal. I can even appreciate the Alternative, Punk, and Emo stuff, but please give us some of the more obscure stuff i.e. Violent Femmes. I would also like to see Sonic Youth: Washing Machine as an album download. Maybe some Dinosaur Jr., or other indie artists.
With all that said, Please HMX if you're reading this put WEEN IN THE GAME!!!
