Ive tried many different noise reduction mods for the drum pads from rubber tipped drum sticks to Blasting my stereo! So far the best I've found are what you would find in a local Craft store.

Its Craft sheet Foam. I found some that comes in 2mm thick 9x12 sheets and come with "no messy glue" sticky backs. Just simply buy the sheets in your preference in color (I think black looks slick) and buy a good circle cutter ($30) and you're off to the races. I would say sound is cut down approximately 50% and its no longer a sharp tap but a dull thud.

The foam really cuts the sound of the tap. And the best part is they are easy to replace. After new years eve the foam on my red pad was all beat to crap - imagine 12 drunken "rockstars" pounding at the drums. Normally the drum pad itself would have been worn, dented, and possibly cracked. Not this time, just removed the old foam and pop on a new one.

If anyone cant find the supplies or would simply dont want the hassle and would like some created and mailed for a fair fee please pm me.

I just wanted to comment that I think it's funny/ironic as hell that your avatar is a Metallica image, but your username is a Megadeth song title :)

I did see the foam at the craft store as well, but I was reluctant to get it just because of the same issue you described. It can get "beat to crap"... So opted for a more robust approach...

I went next door to the office supply store and bought one of those HUGE desk mouse-pads. It is large enough to cut out 4 circles, sized to fit just inside of the plastic rim, so the entire pad is covered including the color ring. To add the color back and to provide more protection and deadening I added self-adhesive felt to each mouse-pad circle. So, now I have 4 mouse pad circles, each color coded with felt. Slapped those puppies on and I was in business! (The giant mouse-pad, cost $9, and each felt sheet was $1, for a total of $13...)

I do have a slight issue with the pads comming off under heavy pounding, but I'm going to use colored electrical tape to secure them in place. (I didn't want to apply any adhesive to the pads for fear of degrading the plastic/rub over time. With electrical tape, I know what I'm dealing with and I can easily replace the tape and clean up the stick mess on the rim rather than on the pad.)

(I'm still waiting for the mod to use either my TD-7 or TD-10 with RB!)

LOL, you're the first person to mention - and catch on to that. I think they were both talented bands. Not so much anymore.

Vdrumpro - Each sheet of the foam is 99 cents. Its easy to cut and stays in place. I too was thinking if there was some type of mousepad or rubber to use but was a little concerned about if they would register as well with that much shock absorption material.

I was concerned about the responsiveness as well, but it turns out not to have affected it at all. Yellow, Blue, and Green respond as before the mod, double-stroke rolls are picked up well. The Red pad had an issue before the mod and still does, but it has not gotten an worse with the mod either. So, net null result... just a more muted impact and a more giving rebound... Now if I could just get that plastic kick pedal to behave like a real one with the weight and momentum of a beater hitting a drum head...

I bought foam similar or identical to that from Michaels and I diddnt like it.. It diddnt seem to reduce the noise enough. So I did some digging and found 4 old thick mousepads, cut those up, and now its much better than the foam.

if they had used a reinforced 5th pad for the bass and placed it vertical so you could use your own drum pedal, it would have been nice.. that's all i'm saying..

I've heard the Vic Firth mod is the best noise reduction mod by far! I'll probably get this mod on my drums when I get the game.

I just went to the local music store and bought a pair of Vic Firth ScoJo practice sticks with rubber tips. You can still hear them but the noise is reduced significantly.

Bad side is they are thicker than the RB sticks and heavier.

Think I paid 15 bucks.
