View Full Version : They should package song downloads with the extra peripherals.

40 songs is kind of slim for $200 even with bonus songs. As a possible solution they could package MS points or download codes with the peripherals, so you get 40 songs with the game/guitar combo, 10 downloads if you purchase a second guitar, 10 more with the drum kit, 5 with the mic, etc.

That's just an example, but that would put the total songs at 65 (not counting bonus) for fans who buy everything, and spend all that money.

And it would be a great reason to splurge on a second strat!!! instead of using the GH explorer.

Good thinking, but that's just too unfair to some people, and won't go over very well. A lot of people still need to buy next gen systems just to get the game. Some can barely afford buying a guitar and the game itself.

Hmx is doing their best to make this as affordable and convenient as possible. Putting song packs that only go with more peripherals are only going to piss off people.

DLC is the only way to go about it. It's there for everyone, and you don't have to spend another $60-80 if you want more songs.

Umm...why can't they do both?

I actually think that is a good idea, give you some incentive to buy all the peripherals, besides the obvious one of being able to play the game as a band. I think that would be nice of them too, since we are most likely putting out around $200 or more on controllers, they should give back to us and let us at least get some points towards buying DLC.

Its a decent idea but just not very practical. Except giving out MS points, that works. or maybe free months of gold live?

see then the problem is how to relate that same stuff to the ps3

Because it's multi-platform, I don't think they'll do console specific bonuses.

As far as doing both, songs with peripherals and then DLC, it's not practical. It's not really an incentive either. You either want the peripheral or you don't. You're not going to buy it, just because it comes with songs if the songs are available on DLC. And if it only did just come with the peripheral, then it would upset the people who couldn't afford it.

EDIT: It costs a lot of money for licensing tracks, I wouldn't expect anything for free.

That way, if you want more songs, but can only afford to have the mic and game, it's all available on DLC for a low price. Availability to everyone, and affordable. My original point :)

I didn't mean you would get stuck with certain songs but getting points or codes to choose the songs that you really want. It would be a bonus incentive, which is good for everyone.

Yeah it would be more difficult to workout the PS3 online system, but I'm sure they can figure it out. Plus MS's technology means the peripherals will not be multi-platform, so if you buy a 360 guitar you get DLC for 360, and a PS3 guitar could have downloads for PS3. At this time there is no foreseeable way that a universal rock band guitar/drum set will be released.

As for issues with costs, the games going to be expensive. People who have to buy new consoles are going to have buy them one way or the other. None of this at all makes it a bad idea to package DLC with the peripherals.

Peripherals are high margin sales for retailers so their will definitely be some wiggle room for Harmonix/EA to package some bonus stuff, without increasing the cost of the peripherals.

it would be easier for HMX to give codes for certain songs instead of ms points and that wud work on ps3 too i think since they dont use points

I think they should release certain songs 'codes' or something for the different instrments so if you got the drum pack you would get some legendery drums songs same with guitar and the mic bundles

Now that's not a bad idea. Something like a classic drum solo, guitar solo, etc. in training mode or something along those lines. I could see that.

These things will sell on their own, so EA/Harmonix really doesn't need to add anything in box...unless, for some strange reason, sales are in the toilet.
