I got Rock Band (Xbox 360 bundle) a week ago and have yet to be able use the mic successfully. Rock Band recognizes that the mic is there and loads a song but, when we try to sing, talk, scream etc. into the mic, nothing happens. The pitch indicator doesn't appear at all. Here's what we've tried so far...

1. We've plugged the mic into each of the USB ports. We did this in various combinations of different instruments and with or without the hub. I also tried my own, non-rock band supplied USB hub. Didn't work.

2. We used another USB mic (non-rock band version) and it didn't work.

3. Tried using the standard Xbox 360 headset with the supplied adapter. Didn't work.

4. A friend brought over his xbox 360. We were able to load a song and it worked for about 10 seconds then stopped. (We got the pitch indicator to appear and could hear our voice coming from the speakers. We paused the game, celebrated, but when we got back into the game, the pitch indicator wasn't there and the mic wouldn't pick up any sound from that point on.)

5. At this point, I thought the mic was faulty. I plugged it into my laptop and was able to make a recording. I left it on for about 20 mins to see if it would record for a long period of time and it did. Put it back into the 360, didn't work on either box.

6. On a whim, I plugged the hub into the 360 and plugged in every USB mic I could find all at once. Didn't work but looked pretty cool.

7. I yelled, shook my fist and threatened the mic. Didn't work.

8. Modified the in-game mic settings. Didn't work.

9. Tried the suggestion below on using the XLB headset without the adapter. Worked! Hurray!

I'm not sure what to do now. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. All the other instruments work great but it would be nice to be able to sing.

Edit: Added more things that I've tried to do that didn't work.

Not that I can offer a suggestion on how to remedy that, but as an alternative, you can not plug the mic in at all, and plug your XBL headset into your controller like normal (you don't need the adapter) and just sing through the headset. Press the A button for the percussive parts (or say 'pop').

Then you can pretend you're Paula Abdul. I do it to spite my bandmates occasionally.

I'll give that a shot and see if it works. I'm still really confused as to why it would work for just a few seconds, then stop. :shrugs: I'll report back if it worked or not.

On the controller that the mic is associated with in-game, try pressing either X, Y, or B. One of those controls Mic Sensitivity. Turn it up all the way and see if that fixes things.

If that doesn't work, you might want to contact EA directly for a replacement, although the fact that you've tried other mics with the same results strikes me as odd.

Good luck!

Ok, so I tried to first suggestion of using the XBL headset and it worked! I'm going to fiddle with the mic some more but it is encouraging to see the pitch indicator finally!

Spidey867, I didn't mention it above but I have tried changing the in-game mic settings to no avail.

If I can't get the mic to work this weekend, I'm going to call EA and get a replacement I suppose.

Yay! Least you now have something you can play with, even if it's more goofy than using the normal mic.

You can't steal my Paula Abdul shtick though. You'll have to go with someone else, like Milli Vanilli
