Yeah. This poll is probably gonna be lopsided. Pantera, but Anthrax is alright.

I guess the fact that Pantera was a run of the mill glam metal band while Anthrax was defining the genre counts for nothing? I love Vulgar Display of Power and Cowboys from Hell (to a lesser extent), but please.

I guess the fact that Pantera was a run of the mill glam metal band while Anthrax was defining the genre counts for nothing?

point 1: "run of the mill glam metal band" plz, we're talking about Pantera, not Poison.... and for the record... thank GOD we're not talking about Poison :)

how anyone can even fathom calling pantera glam is beyond me. did you ever see them in concert? did you see any of their videos? have you HEARD their music? Glam? i think not.

point 2: The fact that Anthrax helped define the thrash metal genre in the late 80s and early 90s has nothing to do with the fact that Pantera was the better band. Granted, "better band" is all relative to the eye of the beholder, but in my opinion (and most others according to this thread) Pantera was the better of the two.

Dude are you aware that Pantera was a glam band in the 80's?
Pantera were the greatest by the way.

Yes, I've seen them live several times.

They started out and spent most of the 80s as a glam band, during the time period Anthrax was defining the genre. Just because they erased their past doesn't change it.

But that has everything to do with it, as in my eyes Pantera was a group of talented musicians that sounded like a dozen other bands. Anthrax didn't sound like anyone, didn't dress like anyone and pioneered the rap/metal crossover without sucking. Anthrax is a big reason bands like Pantera existed. IMHO Anthrax had about half a dozen very good to great albums while Pantera had one great (Vulgar) and one very good (Cowboys) album.

I'm sure if the board had more people that were involved in the thrash scene in the 80s the poll results would be different, but the board skews a little younger than that.

I am aware that Pantera started out as a "glam" band... but i dont hold that against them cuz in the end thats not what they were. I dont have a problem with bands evolving... especially if they're going to the cool side, and not in reverse (are you listening metallica?)

I did grow up in thrash era of the 80s. And Anthrax is one of my favorite bands.
I guess the whole topic of this thread can be taken different ways. When i read "Anthrax or Pantera" i immediately said "Pantera... by far"

but if you're going to take into consideration longevity, innovation, etc. etc... then that certainly makes a strong case for Anthrax.

But then again there is something to be said for the fact that IMO, for a few years, Pantera was higher and mightier than Anthrax ever was.

So the correct answer is.... there is no correct answer. lol what a copout. :)
