Quick question - are the controllers going to be universal or proprietary? Hopefully they are usb and can be used on all versions this go around? Thanks, Harmonix!

We'd love to have universal controllers - it would make the design,
manufacturing, and inventory management much easier. However, Microsoft
requires special security chips in each controller.

Does Microsoft's security device requirement mean universal platform support is not possible? Or does it mean including said device in all controllers (regardless of whether 360 is the platform the consumer uses it on) is simply too costly?

I know that many of my friends will get this game, but not all of them own a 360 (like me). Some own PS3, others Wii. I'd like to be able to take my controller over to their house or vice versa.

You might be shooting yourself in the foot by not allowing universal controllers... but hey, I'm not in marketing, I'm just a consumer.

I'm in the same boat. Is it possible to include the sec chip in a usb that will still work on PS3?

HID Device chips are almost free, they could include both, if Microsoft allows them to. Red Octane wanted to make wireless 360 guitars, but didn't make it in time for GH II launch because of Microsoft.
Certainly interesting to see the coding now appear in older threads. Actually on topic though, there's a device coming out soon for the Wii's Les Paul controller that makes it compatible with Rock Band (Wii) and with the PS3.
